A Numerical Study for Optimum Design of Dust Separator Screen Based on Coanda Effect (코안다효과를 이용한 제진기 스크린의 최적설계를 위한 수치적 연구)

  • There is a need to study dust separator screens with good drainage efficiency while effectively filtering suspended solids and other contaminants entering the intake pumping station, the drainage pumping station and the mediation pumping station, the cooling water inlet of the power plant, and the like. In this paper, Numerical studies were conducted for the optimal design of the dust separator screen using the Coanda effect. The shape of the dust separator screen is important, such as the right curvature radius $R_1$ at the top of the dust separator screen and the left curvature radius $R_2$ at the top, h is the height difference and shape between the screen and the accelerating plate, and ${\theta}$ is the inclination angle of the screen. A total of 4 shape factors were set and the effects of Coanda and drainage performance of each element were compared and analyzed, the optimum length and size of each shape element were derived by classifying the shape elements into direct and indirect influences. Finally, it was possible to effectively filter foreign matter by narrowing the screen spacing, and the drainage performance was analyzed and optimized through numerical studies of dust separator screen.

  • By applying the Nakayama's theory of saturation spectroscopy to 87Rb $D_2$ lines, taking into account the optical pumping process, the relative intensities of the resonance signals were calculated for various polarization combinations of pump and probe beams. The saturated absorption spectra were observed with a linewidth-narrowed semiconductor laser. As the result, it was found that the theoretical calculations were in good agreement with the experimental observations in the case where the geomagnetic field was- shielded.

  • This paper presents a water level control method using Z-80 microcomputer. The process considered in this paper is one tank system which is described by an unknown nonlinear differential equation. The water level is measured by the end of bar installed at a float passing through 8 pair of photointerrupters located at equal distance. Therefore, the input data to 8255 which is interface between Z-80 and photointerrupters is discrete value, namely, value under 1. values from 1 to 8, and value upper 8. The water is pumped into the tank from a reservoir by switching on a relay connected to a moter and pump driving system. The pumping is stopped by switching off the relay. Experimental studies for two types of controllers are performed in order to investigate the control performance of water level of the water pumping system.

  • NOR type flash 32 ${\times}$ 32 way are fabricated by using the typical 0.35 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS process. The structure of array is the NOR type with common source line. In this paper, optimized program and erase voltage conditions are presented to realize multi-bit per cell at the CSL-NOR array. These are considered selectivity of selected bit and disturbances of unselected bits. Retention characteristics of locally trapped-charges in the nitride layer are investigated. The lateral diffusion and vertical detrapping to the tunneling oxide of locally trapped charges as a function of retention time are investigated by using the charge pumping method. The results are directly shown by change of the trapped-charges quantities.

  • As a carrier of malaria and sneak of blood, mosquitoes are regarded as an unpleasant insect. However, there are novel phenomena that happen inside a mosquito. Among them, we focused on the blood sucking function of a female mosquito. The main objective of this study was to investigate the mosquito's pumping mechanism in order to resolve the problem encountered when we inject or transport biologic fluids into a micro-chip. To analyze the pumping mechanism, we visualized the blood sucking process inside a female mosquito. Flow characteristics of blood flow in a proboscis were investigated experimentally using a micro-PIV velocity field measurement technique. The anatomical variation of head, thorax, abdomen which work as pumps and valves, was visualized using the syncrotron X-ray micro-imaging technique.

  • A new valveless micropump for bi-directional application has been developed and tested. The micropump was fabricated on silicon and glass substrates by micromachining process. The micropump in this study consists of a membrane actuator, a pumping chamber, fluidic channels and two piezoelectric ceramic films. The channels and pumping chamber were etched on a glass wafer and the membrane was made on a silion wafer which is actuated by a piezoelectric ceramic (PZT) film. The geometry of the micropump was optimized by numerical analysis and the performance of the micropump was investigated by the experiments. The maximum flow rate was $323{\mu}L/min$ and the maximum back pressure was 294 Pa when the membrane actuator of $10{\times}10mm^2$ was driven at 130 Hz and 385 V.

  • We have studied the hot-carrier-induced degradation caused by the high channel electric field due to the decrease of the gate length of MOSFET used in VLSI. Under DC stress, the condition in which maximum substrate current occures gave the worst degradation. Under AC dynamic stress, other conditions, the pulse shape and the falling rate, gave enormous effects on the degradation phenomena, especially at 77K. Threshold voltage, transconductance, channel conductance and gate current were measured and compared under various stress conditions. The threshold voltage was almost completely recovered by hot-injection stress as a reverse-stress. But, the transconductance was rapidly degraded under hot-hole injection and recovered by sequential hot-electron stress. The Si-SiO2 interface state density was analyzed by a charge pumping technique and the charge pumping current showed the same trend as the threshold voltage shift in degradation process.

  • This paper presents an alarm system for the integrated monitoring and control station of waterworks in Daegu City. An alarm system informs the operator or other responsible individuals about the abnormality in the process so that an appropriate action can be taken. In practice, operators receive far more false and nuisance alarms than valid and useful alarms. Too many false and nuisance alarms can distract the operator from operating the plant, and thus critical alarms may be ignored. This problem can lead to the point that the operator no longer trusts the alarms or even shuts down the whole monitoring system. This paper proposes an efficient method to reduce false and nuisance alarms by prioritizing every fault using the Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) technique. The effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated with a set of computer simulation under various faulty conditions.
