The pulsed power system is widely available for use in pulse generator applications. Generally, the pulse generator is required for very short pulse width and high peak value. We have designed and fabricated our own pulsed type power system and through its use, we investigated microbe removal characteristics. This paper introduces a simple pulsed power system for removing various microbes caused by dirty water. This system includes a 2 times power supply circuit, IR2110 operated by using a fixed voltage regulator 7812 and 7805, and the switching MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor). We can also control this process by using a PIC one chip microprocessor. As a result, we can obtain good removing characteristics of various microbes by adjusting the charging voltage, the pulse repetition rate and the electrical field inducing time.
A capacitor-charging power supply using high frequency inverter technology is strongly recommended for the charging section of the pulsed power supplies. A high frequency inverter swiching makes the overall system size small. The command-charging feature can guarantee the higher reliability of switching function. The protection circuit can be easily included in the system and the good regulation of charging voltage can be acieved by the feedback system. Several modules can be stacked to supply required output power and a failed module can be easily replaced. A 50-kV, 35-kW capacitor charging power supply is developed. In this paper the detailed design and test results of a prototype unit are presented.
In this paper, a novel 10kV, 50A, 50kHz pulsed power supply based on IGBT stacks is proposed. Proposed scheme consists of series connected 12 IGBT to generate maximum 10kV output pulse and 10kW full bridge phase-shifted zero voltage switching converter to charge DC capacitor voltage. Each IGBTs are sustain the 830V of capacitor voltage at turn off interval. By turn on the each IGBT for the same time it gives the path for the series connection of charged capacitor. From above turn on and off procedure, high voltage repetitive pulse is applied to the load. The synchronization of gating signal is important of series operation of IGBTs. For gating signal synchronization, specially designed gate power circuit using full bridge inverter and pulse transformer is developed to generate IGBT gating signal.
Metal film type of resistor have been tested to invest maximum usable power at the pulsed high voltage and pulsed high current. Experiments were carried out using capacitor charging power supply and dump switch. Pulsed amplitude were varied from 1kV to 25kV. The peak current reached was 1kA. Datasheet are given for the limited pulsed power and energy for metal film type of resistor in nanosecond and microsecond time range. The experimental investigation of the threshold loading of the resistor in the high current and voltage pulsed mode has shown that the process of destruction of resistor has specific features for each mode. The mechanisms of failure and destruction of resistors under action of high-voltage and high-current pulses are discussed.
This paper deals with the design considerations and characteristics analysis of a SCR rectifier in pulsed over load operation. The Pulse repetition rate is one every 150 seconds and each current pulse width is 10 seconds. Therefore the characteristics of the transformer and SCR rectifier which consist the pulsed DC power supply are different from those of the conventional AC/DC power converters having continuous load. The variations of the DC output voltage drop, PF and THD versus the %Z of the transformer is analyzed through simulations and the experimental results thought to be useful in design high power pulsed DC power suppler.
Pulsed power systems consist of a capacitor bank, an isolated high-voltage charging power-supply, high-current bus-work for charging and discharging and a control system. In such pulsed power systems, the operating-lifetime of the capacitors is closely dependent on the voltage reversal. Hence, most capacitor-discharging systems includes crowbar circuits. The crowbar circuit prevents the capacitor recharging with reverse voltage. Usually it consists of crowbar resistors and high pulse-current diode-stacks connected in series. The requirements for the diode-stacks are fast-recovery time and high-voltage and large-current ratings, which results in the high cost of the pulsed-power system. This paper presents a protection scheme of a charging and discharging system of a 500kJ capacitor bank using a low-cost crowbar circuit and safety-fuses.
