This study investigated the effects of changes to the pulsation factor of pulsed direct currents on wound healing. Patients with a pressure ulcer at a care hospital for the elderly were randomly divided into three groups: Group 1 involved the application of $100{\mu}s$ in pulse duration, 10 ms in pulse period, 100 pps in a pulsation factor, 15 mA in pulse amplitude, and polarity red+ by using pulsed direct currents; Group 2 involved a change of pulse period to 8 ms; and Group 3 received general wound management. Although there were no statistically significant differences in the changing stages of pressure ulcers among the groups, all the groups dropped in numerical stages. In the two groups to which pulsed direct currents were applied, there was a statistically significant reduction in the stages of pressure ulcers from the initial assessment to the 12-week assessment (p<.05). Even though there were no statistically significant differences in changes to the area of pressure ulcers among the groups, a statistically significant decrease was found in pulsed direct current group 2 whose pulse period was shortened (p<.05). There was no difference in the healing rate of pressure ulcers among the groups, but it made a numerical increase in pulsed direct current group 1 and group 2 and a numerical decrease in group 3. There were no significant differences in the characteristics of those who had a full recovery among the groups. Those findings indicate that pulsed direct currents have positive effects on the wound healing of patients with a pressure ulcer and that a treatment with pulsed direct currents whose pulsation factor is raised by reducing the pulse duration is especially effective.
Recent ULSI and multilevel structure trends in microelectronic devices minimize the line width down to a quarter micron and below, which results in the high current densities in thin film interconnections. Under high current densities, an EM(electromigration) induced failure becomes one of the critical problems in a microelectronic device. This study is to improve thin film interconnection materials by investigating the EM characteristics in PSG(phosphosilicate glass)/SiO$_2$ passivated Al-l%Si thin film interconnections. Straight line patterns, wide and narrow link type patterns, and meander type patterns, etc. were fabricated by a standard photholithography process. The main results are as follows. The current crowding effects result in the decrease of the lifetime in thin film interconnections. The electric field effects accelerate the decrease of lifetime in the double-layered thin film interconnections. The lifetime of interconnections also depends upon the current conditions of P.D.C.(pulsed direct current) frequencies applied at the same duty factor.

Ferritic stainless steels would be the most important alloys under the chloride environment. They are a cheaper alternative to austenitic stainless steels [1]. The present study is related to gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) characteristics of Type 444 stainless steels. The heat of welding leads to grain coarsening in the HAZ and in the weld metal of ferritic stainless steels because they solidify directly from the liquid to the ferritc phase without any intermediate phase transformation. It is therefore recommended that these alloys be welded with a low heat input and at high welding speeds. Attempts to improve weldability were made by using of direct current straight polarity (DCSP) and pulsed current GTAW processes in this study. Measuring weld bead, grain size and Erichsen test were performed and the effects of heat input, pulse frequency on the weld metal and HAZ were studied. The main results were obtained as followings: decreasing heat input was effective to control the width of weld both in DCSP welding and in pulsed current welding; pulsed current welding was found to refine the grain size effectively and the finest grain size was found at the frequency of 150Hz in pulsed current welding; it was found that decreasing heat input also refine the HAZs effectively and the frequency had no different effect on HAZ at the same heat input; the ductility could be improved effectively in pulsed current welding.
In this study, metal transfer characteristics in pulsed current metal inert gas (MIG) welding of aluminum was investigated. Based on the metal transfer characteristics from direct current electrode negative MIG welding, the one drop per one pulse(ODOP) condition was predicted and compared with experimental data. The results indicated that experimental pulse range for the ODOP condition is wider than that predicted from the DCEP MIG welding data. In addition, more stable metal trnasfer behavior was obtained at the higher end of the ODOP condition.

A study of noticeable improvement in welding speed in thin-plate Type 304 stainless steels gas tungsten arc (GTA) welding was investigated. The welding speeds were increased to more than 3m/min, up to 8m/min. During the welding, Direct Current Straight Polarity (DCSP) and pulsed current GTA welding processes were carried out, respectively. The appropriate high speed welding parameters were established while achieving a high quality weld. After this, Erichsen test and tensile test were performed. The results obtained wert summarized as following: ultra high speed welding for thin-plate Type 304 could be satisfactorily welded with high speed from 3m/min to 8m/min in both DCSP and pulsed GTA welding; Increasing welding speed was found to decrease the ductility, tensile strength md elongation of welded joint; The optimal frequency would be 200Hz-500Hz for high speed welding in pulsed current welding; DCSP welding could obtain the better results of Erichsen test and tensile test than those of pulsed current welding obtained.
The impact of effective parameters on the electrodeposition rate optimization of Au-Cu alloy at high thicknesses on the silver substrate was investigated in the present study. After ensuring the formation of gold alloy deposits with the desired and standard percentage of gold with the cartage of 18K and other standard karats that should be observed in the manufacturing of the gold and jewelry artifacts, comparing the rate of gold-copper deposition by direct and pulsed current was done. The rate of deposition with pulse current was significantly higher than direct current. In this process, the duty cycle parameter was effectively optimized by the "one factor at a time" method to achieve maximum deposition rate. Particular parameters in this work were direct and pulse current densities, bath temperature, concentration of gold and cyanide ions in electrolyte, pH, agitation and wetting agent additive. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and surface chemical analysis system (EDS) were used to study the effect of deposition on the cross-sections of the formed layers. The results revealed that the Au-Cu alloy layer formed with concentrations of 6gr·L-1 Au, 55gr·L-1 Cu, 24 gr·L-1 KCN and 1 ml·L-1 Lauryl dimethyl amine oxide (LDAO) in the 0.6 mA·cm-2 average current density and 30% duty cycle, had 0.841 ㎛·min-1 Which was the highest deposition rate. The use of electrodeposition of pure and alloy gold thick layers as a production method can reduce the use of gold metal in the production of hallow gold artifacts, create sophisticated and unique models, and diversify production by maintaining standard karats, hardness, thickness and mechanical strength. This will not only make the process economical, it will also provide significant added value to the gold artifacts. By pulsating of currents and increasing the duty cycle means reducing the pulse off-time, and if the pulse off-time becomes too short, the electric double layer would not have sufficient growth time, and its thickness decreases. These results show the effect of pulsed current on increasing the electrodeposition rate of Au-Cu alloy confirming the previous studies on the effect of pulsed current on increasing the deposition rate of Au-Cu alloy.
The ferritic stainless steels are generally considered to have poor weldability compared with that of the austenitic stainless steels. However the primary advantages of ferritic stainless steels include lower material cost than the more commonly used austenitic stainless steels and a greater resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Thus, the weldability of ferritic stainless steels was investigated in this study. In concerning the weldability, Grain size measurement test, Erichsen test and Varestraint test were involved. full penetration welds were produced by autogeneous direct current straight polarity (DCSP) and pulsed currents gas tungsten arc welding (GIAW) and the effect of pulsed currents welding on the welds was compared to that of DCSP welding. The results showed that pulsed current was effective to refine grain size in the weld metal and the finest grain size was obtained at the frequency of 150Hz. In addition, the ductility of welds was lower than that of base metal. Finally, autogeneous type 444 welds were less susceptible to macro solidification cracks, but more sensitive to micro cracks; SEM/EDS analysis indicated that all the inclusions in the crack showed enrichment of Mn, Si, O and S.
In order to investigate the effects of pulse plating conditions on the electrodeposition of trivalent chromium, electroplating experiments from bath with low concentration of trivalent chromium were performed. The variation of current efficiency of chromium electroplating with the electroplating conditions was explained. The maximum current efficiency of pulse plating is 6.4 times as high as that of direct plating at the same mean current density The nodular size increased with pulse plating time and the pulse frequency.
Electrically assisted pressure joining (EAPJ) utilizes electric current-induced kinetic enhancement to achieve solid state diffusion bonding within a short time. In this study, aluminum alloy specimens, which are known as a hard-to-weld metal, were successfully solid-state joined through EAPJ. The bonding process was performed in two ways: continuous direct current (CDC), which applies relatively low current density, and pulsed direct current (PDC), which applies high current density. It was observed that the bonding strength was higher in PDC than in CDC. The microstructure of the joint was characterized using 3D X-ray microscopy (XRM) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD).
An encircling send-receive type pulsed eddy current (PEC) probe is designed for use in aluminum tube inspection. When bare receive coils located away from the exciter were used, the peak time of the signal did not change although the distance from the exciter increased. This is because the magnetic flux from the exciter coil directly affects the receive coil signal. Therefore, in this work, both the exciter and the sensor coils were shielded in order to reduce the influence of direct flux from the exciter coil. Numerical simulation with the designed shielded encircling PEC probe showed the corresponding increase of the peak time as the sensor distance increased. Ferrite and carbon steel shields were compared and results of the ferrite shielding showed a slightly stronger peak value and a quicker peak time than those of the carbon steel shielding. Simulation results showed that the peak value increased as the defect size (such as depth and length) increased regardless of the sensor location. To decide a proper sensor location, the sensitivity of the peak value to defect size variation was investigated and found that the normalized peak value was more sensitive to defect size variation when the sensor was located closer to the exciter.
