  • A Verilog model is proposed for transmission lines to perform the all-Verilog simulation of high-speed chip-to-chip interface system, which reduces the simulation time by around 770 times compared to the mixed-mode simulation. The single-pulse response of transmission line in SPICE model is converted into that in Verilog model by converting the full-scale analog signal into an 11-bit digital code after uniform time sampling. The receiver waveform of transmission line is calculated by adding or subtracting the single-pulse response in Verilog model depending on the transmitting digital code values with appropriate time delay. The application of this work to a USB 2.0 high-speed PHY interface reduces the simulation time to less than three minutes with error less than 5% while the mixed-mode simulation takes more than two days for the same circuit.

  • The propagation characteristics of high power microwave pulse in an air-breakdown environment are examined. The maximum electron density produced by microwave air-breakdown is limited to $10^6cm^{-3}$ by the tail-erosion effect. Inorder to increase the electron density, the scheme using two pulses intersecting at a desired height is considered. Increasing the carrier frequency, it is shown that microwave pulse can be transferred without the serious erosion in the numerical simulation. This result is useful for the above scheme. Also, an experiment is conducted to show the tail-erosion effect and confirm that a rapidly generated lossy plasma can cause spectral breaking and frequency shift of a high-power microwave pulse. The experimental results are presented by comparing the frequency spectrum of an incident pulse with that of the pulse transmitted through a self-induced air-breakdown environment. The experimental results show that the amount of frequency upshift is co-related with the ionization rate, whereas that of frequency downshift is correlated with the energy losses from the pulse in the self-generated plasma.

  • High voltage direct current(HVDC) transmission system uses the phase controlled rectifier triggered by means of IPC(individual phase control) or EPC(equidistant pulse control). Most HVDC system has adopted EPC method that can solve the harmonic instability problem of IPC method in weak power system. But EPC has inherent indirect synchronizing problem requiring the closed loop control. This paper presents the new gate pulse generating method for 12-pulse HVDC converter, which combines IPC with EPC. Simulation and test results are presented. The basic concept is that it generates the gating pulse for 12-pulse converter by synthesizing the internal phase reference using the frequency and phase information of a sin91e phase voltage. To ensure the reliability of the external phase input, Potential transformer that detects the phase voltage has redundancy. Using fault detecting algorithm the healthy input is always guaranteed. And the frequency compensation function was reinforced.

  • Objectives : Recently, for over ten years, various arterial pulse simulators have been developed for training of pulse palpation technique. In this paper, we summarized development trends of those apparatuses. Materials and methods : To search the cases of development, we mainly used China Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), National Discovery for Science Leaders (NDSL), Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal, Patent Search by Baidu (百度專利搜索), and some general search engines. Some domain cases introduced were collected based on personal experience. Results : It was found that there were two types of arterial pulse simulators. The first type uses fluids and pumps, while the second type uses actuators without fluid circulation parts. Conclusion : From year 2000, various arterial pulse simulators have been developed. In general, they could be classified two types. Further effort toward Maixiang (脈象) simulation and validation in field is needed.

  • This paper presents a forward type high voltage pulse power supply for high voltage small current, which can be designed as a simple circuit configuration and managed easily using Power-MOSFET in the view of commercialization. According to the switching frequency, coupling factor(k) and duty ratio(D), the Principle of basic operation and the characteristics of the proposed pulse power supply are estimated. Simulation results have demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed pulse power supply. Also experimental results are presented to verify theoretical discussion with a lamp type ozonizer as a load. For studying the application at the part of environment of water, When ozonizer gas reacts with a colon bacillus, the sterilization characteristics of a colon bacillus according to the ozone concentration and response time have been investigated. This proposed pulse power supply will be able to be practically used as a pulse power supply in various environment improvement facilities like sterilization of colon bacillus, deodorization, and Nox gas elimination.

  • Self-excited pulse jet is a specific nozzle with a closed chamber which can change a continuous jet into a pulse one. Energy of the pulse jet can be output not only unevenly but also with multifrequency. With the peak pressure of pulse jet, the hitting power would be 2~2.5 times higher than that of continuous jet. In order to reveal the correlation between the self-excited pulse frequency and nozzle diameter ratio, nozzle spacing and operating pressure, the model of 3D unsteady cavitation model has been used. We found that with the same nozzle structure parameters and the different operating pressure, the self-excited frequency and the width of peak crest are different, but the wave profiles are similar. With FFT, we also found that the less bandwidth of amplitude in low frequency range will lead to the wider wave crest of outlet velocity in its time domain, and the larger force of the strike will be gained. By studying the St of self-excite nozzle, not only the frequency of a certain nozzle can be predicted, but also a nozzle structure with a certain frequency can be designed.

  • A new modulation scheme called multicoded-pulse position modulation (MC-PPM) is proposed for an ultrawideband (UWB) impulse radio communication system. The multicoded signal is generated by using several orthogonal codes for transmitting data simultaneously. Then, each multi-level value of the multicoded signal is converted to pulse position which results in not only an improved data rate, but also a processing gain in reception, delivering the power-efficient benefit of PPM and guaranteeing the low pulse energy for UWB systems. We notice that the modulation of multi-level values of the multicoded signal to pulse position is more efficient in terms of achievable data rate than the modulation of transmitting data based on other PPM schemes within given bandwidth and pulse energy. Therefore, as a performance measure, we focus on the achievable data rate (link capacity) of the proposed scheme and analyze it theoretically. Through simulation, we compare the link capacity of the MC-PPM scheme and other PPM schemes, such as M -ary PPM and multiple PPM. With the fixed bandwidth and same pulse energy condition, the UWB system based on the proposed MC-PPM scheme shows good link capacity and an increased data rate as L increases, which is contrary to other PPM schemes.

  • This paper presents a buck-boost converter-based bipolar pulse generator, which is able to generate bipolar exponential pulses across a resistive load. The concept of the proposed approach depends on operating the involved buck-boost converters in discontinuous current conduction mode with high-voltage gain and enhanced efficiency. A full design of the pulse generator and its passive components is presented to ensure generating the pulses with the desired specifications (rise time, pulse width, and pulse magnitude) for a given load resistance and input dc voltage. In case of moderate pulsed output voltages (i.e. few of kV), one module of the presented bipolar generator can be employed. While in case of high-voltage pulsed output, multi-module version can be employed, where each module is fed from an isolated dc source and their outputs are connected in series. Simulation models for the proposed approach are built to elucidate their performance in case of one-module as well as multi-module based generator. Finally, a scaled-down prototype for one-module of buck-boost converter-based bipolar pulse generator is implemented to validate the proposed concept.

  • A conventional linear accelerator system requires a flat-topped pulse with less than ${\pm}$ 0.5% ripple to meet the beam energy spread requirements and to improve pulse efficiency of RF systems. A pulse transformer is one of main determinants on the output pulse voltage shape. The pulse transformer was investigated and analyzed with the pulse response characteristics using a simplified equivalent circuit model. The damping factor ${\sigma}$ must be >0.86 to limit the overshoot to less than 0.5% during the flat-top phase. The low leakage inductance and distributed capacitance are often limiting factors to obtain a fast rise time. These parameters are largely controlled by the physical geometry and winding configuration of the transformer. A rise time can be improved by reducing the number of turns, but it produces larger pulse droop and requires a larger core size. By tradeoffs among these parameters, the high-voltage pulse transformer with a pulse width of 10 ${\mu}s$, a rise time of 0.84 ${\mu}s$, and a pulse droop of 2.9% has been designed and fabricated to drive a klystron which has an output voltage of 284 kV, 30-MW peak and 60-kW average RF output power. This paper describes design optimization of a high-voltage pulse transformer for high-power pulsed applications. The experimental results were analyzed and compared with the design. The design and optimal tuning parameter of the system was identified using the model simulation.
