  • According to the recent report, solar street lamp connected to a non Maximum Power Point Tracking(MPPT) charger, can lead to a system-wide decline in power output with as much as 30%. This paper proposes the charge controller with direct duty ration control for 250W solar street lamp in order to improve the efficiency of photovoltaic from these output power reduction. This paper covers the Pulse Width Modulation(PWM) controller and power conversion topology and analyze the MPPT method for charge controller. The power conversion part consists of push pull converter based on PWM controller using 8bit MCU in order to have lower manufacturing cost. The PWM controller with direct duty ratio control algorithm is constantly tracking the maximum power point of photovoltaic module and increases energy output power. The test results shows 97.1~97.4% MPPT efficiency and the experimental hardware is implemented based on the solar simulator condition for 241W. Thus, the implemented charge controller shows its feasibility for the real application, especially under solar street lamp.

  • Pull-out tests for three different types of strip reinforcements are performed to investigate variation of the apparent coefficient of friction which occurs between the reinforcements and the weathered granite soils with different contents of fine materials. The contents of fine materials for the soil sample are varied from 7% to 36% and the reinforcements used for the pullout tests are smooth, ribbed steel strips and a textured shape Paraweb 1 Friction tie. Test results show that the apparent coefficient of friction tends to decrease with the increase of the content of fine meterials. It is known, however, that the minimum apparent coefficient of friction required to the design of reinforced earth structures can be achieved even at 35% fine contents by using appropriate reinforcements. The ribbed strip reinforcement is found to be the most effective in mobilizing the apparent friction when interacting to finer weathered granite soils. The textured reinforcement is also useful for 35% fine con tents if the textured depth is increased.

  • This paper presents the results of an investigation into the pull-out characteristics of screw anchor piles for use in braced excavation and cut-slope. A series of reduced-scale model tests were performed on model screw anchor piles with different geometric characteristics such as screw size and pitch length. The results indicated that the pullout resistance increases with decreasing the pitch length for a given screw size. It was also observed that the pullout capacity of a screw anchor pile increases with the screw size up to a certain size beyond which the increase becomes minimal. The results are presented in such a way that the pullout characteristics of screw piles with different screw geometric characteristics can be identified. Practical implications of the findings are discussed.

  • In this paper, we propose the converged profile and authentication scheme for supporting converged media services of broadcasting & communications convergence in fixed mobile convergence networks. The proposed scheme supports the management of access, service, mobility and IPTV profiles on subscriber and a function of open API(Application Program Interface) for providing the subscriber profile for the third party service provider with the PUSH/PULL method. The open API is based on a web service and a REST(Representational State Transfer) and provides various services for the third party service provider with ease. In addition, the proposed scheme supports a function of SSO(Single Sign-on). After user succeeded in establishing an access connection, user can sustain the same authentication state with this function although connected access network is changed or IMS(IP Multimedia Subsystem) service network is attached. We evaluate and analyze the performance of the proposed scheme through the implementation of CUPS(Converged User Profile Server) system test-bed.

  • In this paper, we propose a linear tapered slot rectifying antenna for a portable UHF-band RFID system. Since the proposed rectifying antenna does not use a dielectric substrate, the planar antenna is implemented with a thin metal thickness. The rectifier circuit converts input RF power into output DC voltage using a voltage doubler circuit based on two anti-parallel schottky diodes. The rectifying antenna is integrated by the voltage doubler circuit into a linear tapered slot antenna. For conjugate impedance matching of the rectifying circuit and the linear tapered slot antenna, the source-pull method was utilized by adjusting the angle of the tapered slot and the length of the antenna feed line. The proposed antenna prototype has been verified with the electrical and radiation characteristics through RF-DC conversion and far-field radiation test in open space measurement environment. Finally, the proposed antenna is realized to 0.23-wavelength (75 mm) and 0.18-wavelength (60 mm) at 915 MHz center frequency.

  • Morphological changes of polyarylate (PAR) fiber treated with formic acid and ultraviolet (UV) were observed by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and an atomic force microscope (AFM). The results were analysed by using root mean square (RMS) roughness. In addition, the chemical changes of surface was investigated using contact angle and the interfacial adhesive strength between PAR fiber and PEN (Polyethylene naphthalate) matrix was calculated using the Pull-out test results. As the acid treatment concentration and UV irradiation time increased, cracks and pores were produced on the PAR fiber surface. Due to the roughness increased, the contact angle was decreased. For this reason, RMS roughness of PAR fiber was increased and the interfacial adhesive strength between the PAR fiber and PEN matrix was improved. The increase of interfacial adhesive strength was responsible for the increase of surface area which have cracks and pores.

  • In order to describe external effects on the behavior of the adhesive tape, the semi-rigid body cylinder chain model for adhesive tape has been proposed as follows. Firstly the behavior of the tape is in detail investigated while it's being pulled off from the plate, and subsequently a relevant phenomenological model is designed. Then all the contributors affecting the force to peel out the tape from plate (hereafter, the pull out force) are clearly defined and their sensitivity analyses are made to set up the experimental reference condition, under which the angular dependence of the pull out force is measured in every $10^{\circ}$. The experimental data turn out to be in good agreement with the theoretical ones by our model within the measurement error, and the effects due to other factors are proved to be well explained from the phenomenological viewpoint. From these results, the concept of this study might be expected to be very useful for the test and evaluation of PSA types of adhesive tape.

  • Shipbuilder checks the status of main engine and propeller operation before sea trial. Generally these tests are carried out at a quay during fitting out of the ship. For these tests the operator has to estimate the maximum RPM with permissible torque and thrust to ensure the safety of the mooring line and ship. In this paper, the propeller characteristics according to the draft variation for a moored ship is inveatigated. From these tests, it is shown that shaft submergence is a dominant parameter in the propeller performance at shallow shaft submergence and that the propeller performance is dependent upon the propeller RPM when the shaft submergence is kept unchanged. In this study, a simple formula of the required thrust for a given propeller shaft submergence and propeller RPM is derived. 1be propeller thrust, which is calculated by another formula in case of dtep draft, is compared with results of bollard pull test for FPSO.

  • SFRC overcomes brittleness of concrete and has increases strength due to the action of confmement, crack arrestmg mechan~sm and pull out resistances of steel f~bers ~ n s ~ d e the concrete. These lead also to the increased strength and ductility under the shear stress. It has been reported that the secondary remforcement effect of steel fibers IS more pronounced In shear than flexure. Addition of hooked stee!, fibers into the cementitious materials enhanced shear resistance and consequently improves structural behavior and shear strength of Reinforced Hooked-Steel-Fiber Concrete Ream(RHSFCI3) under the shear forces. Experimental observations were made on the main parameters effecting structural behavior of RHSFCB in this study. The volume fractions of fibers, shear span to depth ratios, and spaclngs of stlrrups were taken into account as the mam parameters. Some eyuatlons reported in the literatures, regardmg the predict~ons of the shear strength of RHSFCB have been evaluated stdtlst~cdlly based on the tot a1 number of 95 test results on RHSFCB faded In shear on shear flexu~al mode.

  • The strengthening performance of FRPs(Fiber Reinforced Polymers) is directly affected by the environmental conditions such as freezing-thawing and moisture because FRPs are usually bonded on the concrete surface. It is, therefore, strongly required to evaluate a durability of bond between FRPs and concrete as well as FRP materials itself. The freezing-thawing resistance of FRPs is evaluated in this study with the variables of freezing-thawing conditions, types of FRP and freezing-thawing cycles. From the test results, it is found that tensile strength and pull-off strength of CFRP are not affected by the freezing-thawing. On the other hands, those of GFRP show a little degradation because of continuous water immersion during thawing process. But, cautions are needed on the bond durability between FRPs and concrete in case of continuous water supplying from adjacent to the concrete.
