Molecular cloning of cDNAs encoding antioxidant enzymes in Korean rock bream (Oplegnathus fasciatus)

  • Antioxidant enzyme genes play a key role in cell defense against the lethal effects of oxidative stresses in animals and have an essential function which has allowed the evolution of aerobic respiration starting from an ancient form of oxygen-insensitive life. Piscine antioxidant enzymes are also involved in the rapid response to various toxic chemicals as well as many biological stresses, indicating that they could be used as biomarkers for health and aquatic environment. With the purpose for developing fine molecular probing tool to assess the stresses in marine fish, we identified three major antioxidant enzyme genes (superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione-S-transferase) from Korean rock bream using expressed sequence tag analysis and/or high density filter screening. Here we report the molecular information on these gene transcripts including complete sequence data and expression profiles.

  • 겨울철 또는 온도가 낮은 지역에서는 선박과 건축용 등의 창유리에 결로, 결빙현상이 쉽게 발생하여 시야확보가 어렵다. 이 현상들은 창유리의 온도를 상승시킴으로써 방지가 가능하다. 하지만 창유리의 온도는 바람과 기온 및 기후 변화 등의 외란에 민감하므로 일정한 온도 유지가 어렵다. 따라서 민감한 창유리의 온도를 일정하게 유지하기 위한 제어기법이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 산업현장에 많이 사용되고 있는 PI 제어 기법을 적용하여 4 [kW]급 발열유리 온도 제어 시스템의 제어기를 설계하고 실험을 통하여 제어기의 성능을 검증하였다.

An EST survey of genes expressed in liver of rock bream(Oplegnathus fasciatus) with particular interests on the stress-responsive and immune-related genes

  • EST analysis was performed to identify stress-responsive and immune-related genes from rock bream (Oplegnathus fasciatus). cDNA libraries were constructed with liver and randomly chosen 624 clones were subjected to automated sequence analysis. Of 624 clones sequenced in total, approximately 15% of ESTs was novel sequences (no match to GenBank) or sequences with high homology to hypothetical/unknown genes. The bioinforamtic sequence analysis including functional clustering, homology grouping, contig assembly with electronic northern and organism matches were carried out. Several potential stress-responsive biomarker and/or immune-related genes were identified in all the tissues examined. It included lectins, ferritins, CP450, proteinase, proteinase inhibitors, anti-oxidant enzymes, various heat-shock proteins, warm temperature acclimation protein, complements, methyltransferase, zinc finger proteins, lysozymes, macrophage maturation associated protein, and others. This information will offer new possibilities as fundamental baseline data for understanding and addressing their molecular mechanism involved in host defense and immune systems of this species.

  • A non-steady 3-dimensional elastohydrodynamic lubrication analysis was performed on the contacting teeth surfaces of involute spur gears. Kinematics of the gear and the pinion were taken into account to get accurate geometric clearance around the elastohydrodynamic lubrication region of the contacting teeth. Pressure and film thickness distribution for the whole contacting faces in lubricated condition at several time steps were obtained through the analysis. Besides the pressure spike at the outlet region, a representative phenomenon in elastohydrodynamic lubrication regime, the pressure at the inlet region was slight higher than that of the center region. The film thickness of non-steady condition was thicker than that of steady condition.

  • 겨울철이나 추운지역에서는 선박용 및 건축용의 창유리에 결로, 결빙현상이 쉽게 발생하고 쾌적한 시야확보 및 청결유지를 방해한다. 이를 방지하기 위해 발열유리 온도제어 시스템을 사용한다. 기존의 아날로그 발열유리 시스템은 정확한 온도설정, 상태표시 및 고장검지가 어렵다. 또한 통신에 의한 중앙제어가 어렵다. 이와 같은 기존시스템의 단점을 해결하기위해 본 논문에서는 마이크로프로세서에 의한 TRIAC제어를 이용하여 4[kW]급 발열유리의 온도제어 시스템을 설계한다. 그리고 실험을 통해 그 성능을 확인하고자 한다.

  • 선박과 건축용 창유리에 발생하는 결로 결빙 현상을 방지하기 위해 발열유리를 사용 한다. 발열유리를 ON/OFF방식으로 제어하게 되면 발열유리의 종류에 따라 유리코팅이 훼손 될 우려가 있다. 발열체의 등가저항 및 열시정수가 적은 경우에는 TRAIC의 위상제어 방식을 사용해야 한다. 또한 다수의 발열유리를 제어하기 위해서는 제어기 각각의 통신선이 필요하지만 전력선통신을 이용하면 별도의 통신선이 필요가 없어진다. 그러므로 설치비용이 감소하고 외관이 좋아지며, 발열유리의 추가적 설치와 장치의 위치 변경이 용이해진다. 본 연구에서는 전력선통신과 TRIAC 위상제어 방법을 이용하여 전체 발열유리 온도제어 시스템을 구성하고, 실험을 통해 검증하였다.

  • Carbon fiber shows excellent heat generation value and thermal efficiency comparing with the metallic materials because of its far infrared-rays and radiant heat. So, high performance and economic steam boiler system for the industry can be manufactured by using the carbon fiber heater. The far infrared ray radiation rate was more than 90 % of carbon fiber. Steam boiler system with carbon fiber heater in this study is made up of heating section. In the proof test of steam boiler, the aimed temperature and dwelling time were at $500^{\circ}C$ for 8,000 hours, $600^{\circ}C$-3,000 hours, and $700^{\circ}C$-1,000 hours. The temperature rise rate of steam boiler with carbon fiber heater was about 40% faster than that of the conventional boiler.
