There is an increasing curiosity in Nordic as well as Far East Asian countries about senior cohousing, where the middle-aged and elderly people, 55+. form a community for independent living. What are the ideas behind senior cohousins? Why are people moving to senior cohousing community? What may senior cohousing provide and mean for individuals and groups of the elderly? Is senior cohousing a sustainable idea for future generations of elderly people? There is a curiosity among elderly people looking for interesting alternatives. Municipalities and state authorities hope that senior cohousing can contribute to the welfare of the elderly as the scope far support by the public sector is decreasing. Actors in the building sector are interested In investment and meeting the demands. In Denmark and Sweden the senior cohousing concept had a revival around 1985. In Denmark there has been a vivid discussion and plenty of books have been published. In Sweden there are few evaluations but an increasing interest. From different points of view, Danish, Swedish and Nordic as well as Far East Asian countries, there is a concern to explore and compare to get more facts and deeper understanding far further actions. This is a comparative study of inhabitants' life satisfaction in cohousing communities in Denmark and Sweden. The study is based on discussions with cohousing providers, study-visits in cohousing communities and a questionnaire to residents themselves. Study-visits took place during springtime and the questionnaires were handled spring and summer of 2002. 655 seniors responded to the questionnaire from 14 seniorbofae llesskaber (rented or housing cooperatives) in Denmark, 11 seniorhus within the SABO sector (municipality owned housing with rental apartments) and 8 housing cooperatives initiated by the Seniorgarden Housing Company in Sweden. Data were analyzed by SPSS program, using frequency, percentage, cross-tab and chi-square test. This paper focused three major areas of interest; 1)characteristics of the inhabitants. 2) participation in common activities and mutual cooperation among residents and 3) evaluative outcomes from the inhabitants' points of view. Mainly the inhabitants expressed quite positive experiences of their living environment and everyday lift and a few difference was found in life satisfaction between Denmark and Sweden.

This research is focused on the 'Resident-participated Workshop' which targets the improvement of residential environment of apartment complex from the residents' point of view. The purpose of the workshop is to induce the residents interest and encourage them to participate in design process, thus, residents will be satisfied with the result with affection and achievement. This research aims the effectiveness of 'Resident-participated' design plan as a program which enables them to maintain and self manage in the long run. The object of this research was the public space within the apartment complex of Susojugong Rental Apartment Complex in Gangnam-ku, Seoul and followings are the contents; 1. Method of 'Resident-participated Workshop'. 2. Program of 'Resident-participated Workshop'. 3. Design analysis of improved apartment complex through 'Resident-participated Workshop' and selection. As a result, it was noticeable that 'Resident-participated Workshop' was an important factor in decision making of designs from the very first stage through communication. As a part of workshop program, design game used cubic models which was useful to enhance the understanding of the participants. It also induced the cubic conception so that intercommunication with the design specialists was possible. But, the development of various workshop method to increase the residents' interest and participation is necessary, especially, program development is required to change the residents' attitude towards the design plan. It is anticipated that a continuous related research is neccsary in this regard.
This study was aimed at determining the characteristics of circular multi-family housing under the assumption that the shape of a residential building affects local identity. A total of six case studies were included in this study, three case studies on idle historical industrial facilities turned into residential buildings and another three on multi-family housing located in newly developed residential complexes. The study drew its conclusions as follows. First, the design of circular multi-family housing was intended to maximize security and defense from the outside in older times. This was later developed as the terrace house style with geometric urban squares designed under the urban planning of the Baroque period. This evolved high-density housing with a courtyard in the center offering a green open space, with the aim of restoring a sense of humanity. Second, the six case studies on circular multi-family housing were analyzed from the viewpoint of each factor of local identity, including historical and cultural, landscape, and community. Third, the historical and cultural elements of circular multi-family housing are found in some unused historical industrial facilities remodeled into residential buildings. They provide new capabilities and shapes desired by society at a given time, while maintaining familiar styles and elements of history, integrating a legacy of the past into the present. Fourth, circular multi-family housing with unique shapes and structures often become landmarks of a region with their distinctive appearance against a uniform urban environment and the monotonous scenery of residential complexes. They also show a high level of visual awareness with the distinctive shapes made possible when new elements are added to a historical exterior. Finally, circular multi-family housing with courtyards in the center prompt social contact between inhabitants, especially with dormitories and rental houses for the low-income bracket, which provide a small individual units with high use common space. Circular multi-family housing are planned in a manner similar to a small village or a city. They are designed to enhance sense of community, allocating various public amenities and provide cultural and commercial spaces on the ground floor and courtyard areas.

This study presents preferences factors analysis of Car-sharing in Suwon. Approximately, 60% of the citizens prefer car-sharing and consider using it. The results of analysis by factors show higher preferences in these groups of travelers: man, younger, a resident of detached house and efficiency apartment, user of public transportation who finds it uncomfortable, traveler without vehicles, and traveler using car 1 to 3 times a week. The potential demand for car-sharing was highest in the residential areas and around the stations. Travelers prefer to pay the fee by the hour, which the fair value was 7,967 won. For the trip purpose of business, shopping and leisures, car-sharing is more preferred than taxi and rental cars. Findings will contribute to determining the direction of policy for the car-sharing.

In this study, We analyzed the characteristics of carsharing use and revealed the environmental factors influencing carsharing use using the records of carsharing had been operated in Incheon during 2016. The records show a higher ratio of male users, a big portion of 20s and 30s, and ascending trends in the use of elderly people and short distances compared to the past. We analyzed the relationship between carsharing use and neighborhood environmental factors using the negative binomial regression model. It was found that carsharing was more active in areas where have many public transportation users and higher portion of residential buildings. Therefore, it was concluded that these areas can be suitable candidates for placing new carsharing rental sites to expect more active carsharing use.

This study examines the establishment of Sea-po (서포) in the opening period of Korea at the end of the 19th century. The role they played, the particular situations and their geographical characteristics are researched, The earliest sea-po was Koh-je-hong sea-po, which was established in Taekwang-kyo at the end of 1880s. Around 1905, a specialised book distribution system was set up with establishement of Chu-han-yung book store, Kim-sang-man book store, Jesuit book store, Tae-dong su-si, Kae-myung sea-kwan, Tong-wha seo-kwan. The owners of the seo-pos were pioneers in introducing modern culture with nationalistic consciousness, although they were primarily businessmen and their social origins varied. The primary role of seo-pos was selling a variety of books but some combined printing and publication of books as well. It seems that publication business took roots around 1908, though it is difficult to know the accurate dates of first attempts. Some sea-pas offered book rental services for poor people who could not easily afford to purchase books. A certain amount of deposit had to be paid to benefit from the services. Jesuit Bookstore in Pyungyang had a library facility with a large stock or books in the same building open to public for free. These sea-pas started mainly in Seoul and Pyungyang, which were traditional centers for economic and cultural affairs. Early introduction of foreign cultures and commercial developments in these areas contributed to the establishment of sea-pos. The sea-po which took charge of book distribution in the provinces was set up around 1906. One of the important findings of this study is that the geographical distribution of sea-po shows the following three characteristics. First is that the area such as Seoul, Taegu and Chunju were the traditional centers of publishing culture from which Panggak-bon(방각본) emerged. Second characteristic is Pyungyang and the surrounding Pyungbuk province, and harbors like Inchon and Pusan, which had the benefits of early spread of modem cultures. Third characteristic is Kaesung and the surrounding Hwanghae province which bridged Pyungyang and Seoul. The reception of foreign cultures stimulated the commercial spirits traditionally attributed to Kaesung to establish sea-pas most actively.
Korea seems to have introduced the legal basis for supporting and revitalizing the 6th industry since about 2010. Problems such as lack of systematic support system, inadequacy of cooperation and cooperation between ministries, and poor efficiency have been raised. Also, there is a lack of information on the designation, development method, participant, and management plan of the 6th industrial complex. In this study, we review prior researches and cases related to the 6th industry and examine how to efficiently create the 6th industry-specific complex by analyzing the requirements of customers for the enterprises, residents, professionals and officials of the metropolitan area and non-metropolitan areas. As a result of the questionnaire survey, some suggestions for the establishment of the 6th industry specialization complex were drawn. First, 77.5% of the total requires a combination of public and mixed use, which can be expected to have positive effects such as sharing development gains with local residents and improving resettlement of local residents. Second, the 6th industrial complex should be harmonized with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd industries. However, unlike the standardized land use plan of existing industrial complex, it is necessary to expand the distribution and sales space to reflect the demand for tertiary industry. It is also necessary to consider measures for securing primary industrial sites or securing primary industrial sites through external procurement. Third, it is necessary to establish and operate a plan reflecting rent and rental demand after leasing for a certain period.
The purpose of this study, analyzing the primary factors for residential mobility and housing preference of Daegu citizens, is to provide a basic data for future housing policies. The results are as follows: First, 32.1% of Daegu citizens have intention of residential mobility. Especially the residents in central (50.0%), southern (59.0%) and western Daegu showed more intention than those in other districts. Second, we used the GLMM (Generalized Linear Mixed Models) to analyze the main factors for residential mobility. The results are as follows; 1) the residents who have lower housing satisfaction with the type of housing, parking, and educational environment, 2) those who are male and younger, 3) those who live in rented house have more intention of housing mobility. Third, based on the analysis on the preference change of the type of housing, the preference of the apartments is getting higher, while that of the detached houses is getting lower (past: 40.1%${\rightarrow}$present: 54.8%${\rightarrow}$future: 66.7%). 28.8% of the respondents (444) expressed intention to live in the public rental houses, in case they are provided in the areas they are moving to. Fourth, when we analyzed the size of the houses they actually lived in and that of the houses they prefer to live in case of moving, we found that in general they tend to move in smaller housing than in the past. The results of the analysis showed that in order to minimize the possible moving away from the current residential areas due to the dissatisfaction with the housing environment, in the first place the improvement in the quality of the houses, parking and education environment is needed.
Korean urban development cooperation is gradually expanding into Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region, but strategies to encourage domestic market players to participate are insufficient. This paper investigated the Colombian urban planning system, urban development projects, and Korean projects in Colombia, which leads to implications for international cooperation in LAC. This research, first, compares the national and regional urban planning systems of Colombian major cities, Bogotá and Medellín. Second, case studies are carried out with a land readjustment project, a Macro project for large-scale public rental housing supply, and urban development cooperation between Korea and Colombia. By doing so, the role and the directions for Korean urban development cooperation with LAC such as Colombia are discussed and proposed. The findings suggest, first, aid projects through Official Development Assistance (ODA) should establish urban networks in recipient countries. Second, it is necessary to understand the financing structure for urban development cooperation projects that are different from infrastructure projects. Third, the successful case of urban development cooperation should be demonstrated by making the development period and size optimal and manageable.

This study aims to analyze influential factors of residents' housing instability in Korean large cities. The previous studies deal with low-income households' experiences with housing instability. However, this study empirically analyzed the impact of regional characteristics such as spatial openness and community characteristics on residents' housing instability. For this purpose, I analyzed various experiences as symptoms of residents' housing instability using data from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport's (MOLIT) Korean Housing survey through a multi-level logistic regression model. The study finds that regional factors as well as household characteristics influence their housing instability. This result implies that promoting spatial inclusivity alleviate residents' housing instability in metropolitan environments. In addition, this study calls for policy efforts such as a continuous supply of public rental housing and a greater variety of housing types to mitigate housing instability.
