Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify basic health needs of adult clients to develop a community nursing center model in Seoul. Methods: Data were collected using a questionnaire survey from 894 adults registered at a public health center who were health management members, and visiting 4 community nursing centers, University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee during the period from July 1999 to January 2000. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentile, t-test, and ANOVA. Results: 1) The University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee School of Nursing has a long tradition of developing 4 community nursing centers with innovative health care programs. CNCs integrate the ability to implement and test effective intervention strategies with education, research, and practices of nursing students and faculty. They were designed to enhance the health status and quality of life for urban communities through the development of productive, outcome focused, collaborative partnerships among UWM-Nursing faculties and staff, other health and human service providers, consumers, and policy makers. It links the financial resources between UWM and 9 voluntary agencies and 12 public funding organizations including federal. state, and local governments. 2) Of the total health management members, 37.4% were reported to have at least one type of chronic disease such as hypertension, diabetes, and arthritis. Ten percent of them reported having obesity, and 44.2% reported lack of exercise. The health status of the subjects was within normal range in laboratory tests. However, female subjects showed more significant differences in obesity and cholesterol levels than male subjects. The subjects, who were in their 50s, showed more significant differences in obesity, SGOT, SGPT, and cholesterol levels than the subjects in other age groups. Conclusion: A community nursing center needs to be developed, that has a link between the nursing college and the public health center, with partnerships and a multidisciplinary approach. Based on the study results, exercise programs for middle aged adults are considered necessary. In particular, specific exercise programs for pre-menopausal women needs to be implemented in the future to prevent them from developing osteoporosis.
Purpose: This study was conducted in order to present the effects of case management of a home visiting health service for clients with hypertension. Method: One-group pretest-posttest design was used. The subjects were 280 clients who received case management among the first and second registered group. The data were eight-week-case management results from January to December, 2010. In order to evaluate the effect of the visiting nursing service, biological indexes(blood pressure, total cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein, low density lipoprotein, BMI) and self-care abilities(knowledge/attitude of hypertension, management of medication, nutritional care, confidence of self care) were measured. Result: Biological indexes and self-care abilities were improved, except total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein. Conclusion: The case management of home visiting health service by public health centers is considered to be an effective nursing service. Therefore, greater effort is needed for better maintenance of case management, and more research is needed in order to examine a variety of biological indexes.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting health promoting lifestyle in nursing students. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was done using a convenient sampling (n=682) in a three-year nursing college. The health promoting lifestyle was measured by the instrument of Walker's and self esteem was measured by the instrument of Rosenberg's. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, chi-square test, oneway ANOVA and Stepwise multiple regression. Results: The average score of health promoting lifestyle was 2.34. The score of psycho-social well-being subscale was higher than that of health promoting behavior subscale. The highest score was on the interpersonal relations subscale, and the lowest score was on the physical activity subscale. The self-esteem, mental health status, satisfaction with school life, school year, perceived economic status, and gender accounted for 31.9% of the variance of health promoting lifestyle. Conclusion: Self-esteem was the most powerful influencing variable of the health promoting lifestyle, and physical activity was the lowest score of the health promoting lifestyle subscale. Therefor nursing educators should consider to include a health promotion program with increasing self esteem and physical activity in the nursing curriculum.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to provide a person-job fit as the basis for a better job environment and human resource development by examining the causal relationships with the perceived organizational support and job satisfaction of 45 public health center nurses located in Gyeonggi Province. Methods: Frequency analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis, path analysis, mediating effect, and moderating effect were verified for use by SPSS & AMOS 22 ver. to target to nurses located in Gyeonggi Province. Results: First, the person-job fit has a positive effect on the perceived organizational support and job satisfaction. Second, the perceived organizational support has a partial mediating effect. Third, there was no difference in verifying the moderating effect of full-time public servants and temporary public servants. Conclusion: This study examined the relationship among the person-job fit, job satisfaction as an organizational effectiveness, and the perceived organizational support of mediated effect for nurses working at public health centers. The nurses in government service containing permanent and temporal employees was the adjustment effect. The analysis results showed that the ability of public health center nurses to perform tasks related to person-job fit and the ability of the individual to perceived organizational support was high. In addition, and the job satisfaction was good.
Purpose: The study was done to describe competency level in communication and professional competence of Public Health Nurses and to test effect of competency level in communication on professional competence of Public Health Nurses (PHNs). Methods: A correlational research design was used and 153 PHNs working at nine Public Health Centers (PHCs) in four Metropolitan cities agreed to participate. Participants completed a structured questionnaire measuring the study variables with socio-demographic characteristics. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis with the PAWS Statistics 18. Results: The mean of competency level for communication and professional competence were above average for the test instruments utilized (90.3 and 68.4 respectively). The level of communication competency differed by age and location of PHCs, and professional competence differed by location of the PHCs. The level of communication competency was the most important affecting professional competence and explained 32.9% of the professional competence. Conclusion: Nurses with better communication competency had more professional competence. In the future, repeated study is needed, and communication program is needed to develop and train PHNs to improve their professional competence.
Purpose : The purpose of this study is to present the desirable level of home health care services by identifying the roles and activities by task of home health nursing specialists as well as to raise the level of professionalism in home health care services. Method : This is a methodological study. The roles and activities by task were identified through a review of literature and a state-of-the-practice survey, and were structured into a questionnaire after being reviewed and modified through a consensus of experts. The field survey was conducted on 136 home health nursing specialists at medical institutions, public health centers. public medical institutions, non-governmental organizations, and religious institutions in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province. Incheon, Busan, Daegu, and Gwanggju from June 4 to August 4. 2004. Seven roles. 34 tasks and 130 activities were identified in association with home health nursing specialists. Result : The roles of home health nursing specialists were identified as professional nursing service provider, advisor, educator, administrator, case manager, researcher and leader. Under these roles. 34 tasks and 134 task-specific activities were identified. Conclusion : The the roles and activities of home health nursing specialist identified in this study can be used in various home health care settings. These the roles and activities should provide the evaluation criteria of home health care services for institutions with existing home health care programs. An evaluation tool should be developed in order to ensure the hish quality of home health care services.
Purpose: The purpose of this research was to identify the health behaviors, health status, and utilization patterns of health care institutions for homeless shelter residents as well as to compare these research outcomes between younger and older male homeless shelter residents. Methods: The subjects in this study were 357 homeless shelter residents that were recruited by simple random sampling. Data were collected from August to September 2009. Health behaviors, health status, and utilization patterns of health care institutions were measured using structured questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the Chi square test and Fisher's exact test using SPSS 14.0. Results: Both younger and older male subjects showed unhealthy behaviors, and their health status was lower than that of the Health & Nutrition Examination Survey conducted in 2009. Subjects preferred to utilize national or municipal hospitals as well as pharmacies as opposed to general hospitals, clinics, and public health centers. Conclusion: Differentiated comprehensive health care services and monitoring should be provided to homeless shelter residents based on the needs of each group in order to improve their health status as well as to prevent communicable diseases and complications of chronic diseases.

This article examined the main stream policy in pro and cons aspects in relation to social changes such as: demographic changes. family structure changes. attitude changes. health care delivery system. and political settlement view points in connection with medical insurance program. Finally. a model for the elderly health care management was proposed which will provide chronic care services at the community level. such as nursing homes. day care centers. day hospitals, respite care units, and special care institute for dementia.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze differences in the needs of primary health care posts before 2008 and after 2009. Methods: For the final analysis data on 1,905 public health centers and 1,521 public health practitioners were analyzed. The chi-test was used to examine differences between the employees before and after 2008 in general, and T-test for differences in core competencies and job training needs. The test was carried out during June and July, 2017. Results: There were statistically significant differences in general characteristics, future health clinic function, necessity for core competency education, and for job education. Conclusion: Information on the need for new job training should include information the use of public health center information systems, drug mechanisms, medication guidance, discrimination of major symptoms, treatment for common diseases, patient referral and follow-up, health management for elders, dementia management, and chronic disease management. In future job training, it is necessary to elaborate intensively details and evaluate effectiveness.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze cancer symptoms, perceived health status, and nursing services for community dwelling cancer patients who are registered in a public health center. Methods: The subject of the study were 561 community dwelling, and home-based cancer patients who were registered in 8 different public health centers in Daegu, Korea. The data collection was performed from September 28 to October 10, 2009. Analysis of data was done by using descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVA with SPSS program. Results: The mean score of cancer symptom index was 1.63. The level of fatigue was the highest in cancer symptom index. The mean score of perceived health status was 6.92. The exercise guidance was identified as the most frequently practiced nursing service. The scores of cancer symptom index were significantly different by economic status, marital status, living condition, the status of cancer, and metastasis. The scores of perceived health status was significantly different by education, economic status, type of social insurance, time of cancer diagnosis, status of cancer, and metastasis. Conclusion: The above findings indicate that it is necessary to develop a special nursing intervention differentiated according to the time points of cancer diagnosis, status of cancer. In addition, nurses should apply it in their practice to ameliorate fatigue for community dwelling cancer patients who are registered in public health center.
