  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the psychological/physical home environment, and children's moral judgement and moral behaviors. The subjects for this study were a normal group of 58 children and a delinquent group of 54 children. The normal children were selected from elementary and middle schools in Taegu city, and the delinquent children were from two juvenile prisons in the Taegu area. Children's moral judgement scores were measured by levels of moral judgement as conceptualized by Kohlberg. The major findings of this study were that: 1) There were significant differences between the normal and delinquent groups on democratic conduct, permissive attitude, degree of intimacy between parent and child, and materialism orientation. 2) There were significant differences between the normal and delinquent group on life or death of real parent, living with parents, separation, bereavement or divorce, mother's age, father's educational level, and father's occupational level. 3) There were significant differences between the normal and delinquent group on children's moral judgement scales. 4) Father's educational level was the best index for predicting psychological and physical home environment variables and differences between normal and delinquent children on level of moral judgement.

  • Objective : The authors examined the treatment response and remission rates in patients with panic disorder after short-term pharmacotherapy in an effort to determine the factors that can be used to predict remission in Korean patients with panic disorder. Methods : Sixty-one patients with panic disorder were recruited for participation in this study. The psychological symptoms of the patients were measured using the HAMA, HAMD, STAIS, STAIT, ASI and API at baseline and after 3 months of pharmacotherapy. Results : Patients with panic disorder showed significantly lower scores on all psychological measures after 3 months of pharmacotherapy with paroxetine. The remission rate was 44.3%, and the response rate was 54.1%. The remitters showed significantly lower HAMD, HAMA, STAIS, STAIT, and ASI scores than the non-remitters. Linear regression analysis revealed that the baseline HAMA, HAMD, and ASI scores could be used to predict the remission rate after controlling for age, sex and agoraphobia. Conclusion : Compared with previous reports, our study showed a similar remission rate in Korean patients with panic disorder. Lower baseline levels of anxiety, depression, and anxiety sensitivity were found to be predictors of treatment remission in panic disorder.

Methods: For this study, five databases were searched using the key words 'compassion fatigue', 'secondary traumatization', 'secondary traumatic stress', and 'vicarious traumatization'. Thirty-six papers were analyzed. Results: Most of the compassion fatigue research (86%) was conducted between 2006 and 2011 and the most frequent research approach was quantitative research with the ProQOL which was the most frequently used instrument in the studies. He research was conducted in pediatric, emergency & trauma, oncology, psychiatric, and hospice units with no consistent patterns of t compassion fatigue levels. Factors affecting compassion fatigue were personal factors such as age, education background, work-related factors such as caring for trauma patients, work hours, psychological factors such as work stress, burnout, and support/coping factors such as organizational support, and coping resources. Conclusion: Nurses' compassion fatigue varied from low to high by nursing specialties. Many factors affected the compassion fatigue of nurses. In the future there is a need for study on Korean nurses, and identification of groups at risk for compassion fatigue. Furthermore there is a need to develop management programs on compassion fatigue in nurses, stress reduction and wellbeing.

  • Prior research highlighted personalized services as a crucial antecedent to website loyalty, yet little has been discussed on the underlying mechanism. The current study explores the intervening effects of the three psychological constructs in the personalization-loyalty relationship: cognitive efficiency, perceived enjoyment, and socialness. An experiment was conducted with a total of 414 U.S. shoppers on a fictitious e-tail site for jeans that employed different levels of personalized content. The results found that the participants exposed to the high-level personalization condition reported a higher cognitive efficiency and higher socialness perception regarding the fashion e-tail site; however, no direct effect of intensity of e-personalization was found on perceived enjoyment. Cognitive efficiency and enjoyment perceptions on the site significantly increased customers' loyalty intentions regarding the site, while website socialness perception had no direct effect on loyalty intentions. Website socialness showed indirect effects on website loyalty intentions only through cognitive efficiency and perceived enjoyment; however, no direct effect from website socialness was found. Implications and limitations of the study were discussed.

  • While earlier research reports focused on Internet addiction among adolescents, this research examines the direct/indirect impact of socio-psychological variables like stress level, self-consciousness (self-esteem, self-control, and self-efficacy), and Internet use control on Internet addiction among adults. The fact that 62.4% of survey respondents were diagnosed as Internet addicts demonstrates that this concern about Internet addiction among adults is valid. This research, first, shows the direct impact of socio-psychological variables on Internet addiction. Low self-esteem, low self-control, high self-efficacy, high levels of stress, and high Internet-use control lead to a severe level of Internet addiction. Second, self-consciousness variables mediate the impact of stress on the addiction, but the mediating role is not so significant as the direct impact. Internet-use control plays as a partial moderator between self-esteem, self-control and addiction. Internet-use control is a useful measure for Internet addition at work. In addition, businesses may take personality, as well as environmental conditions, and organizational management process into account to minimize the impact of the addiction.

  • The effects of anti-stress chrysanthemum flower (ASCF) extract drink (ASCF-0.1% and ASCF-0.5% concentrations) were tested for the anti-stress action. ICR male mice (20$\pm$2 g) were fed with basic experimental diets and given free access to water containing these ingredients for 18 days. Psychological stress/sociopsychologcal stress exposed by foot-shock for 1 hour for 3 days. Both ASCF-0.1 and ASCF-0.5 groups in the sociopsychological stress resulted in a significant decrease of 28.1% and 27.3% in plasma corticosterone (CS) secretion compared with psychological stress (control group). Noradrenaline (NA) secretions in the brain were significantly increased 49.7% and 53.9%, respectively, in ASCF-0.1 and ASCF-0.5 groups compared with control group. MHPG-SO4 (3-Methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylethy-leneglycol sulfate) levels in the brain resulted in a marked decreases of 12.9% and 16.6%, respectively in ASCF-0.1 and ASCF-0.5 groups. NA/MHPG-SO4 ratios in the brain of ASCF-0.1 and ASCF-0.5 groups resulted in a significantly increase of 71.3% and 81.0%, respectively, compared with control group. These results suggest that anti-stress chrysanthemum flower (ASCF) drink can effectively ridded the sociopsychological stress.

  • Mathematics is among the most important subjects in the middle school curriculum, yet the most hated subjects by students. The present study investigated the role of perceived executive functioning on the middle school student's mathematics achievement, after controlling for other psychological factors. Results showed that the students levels of executive functioning was predictive of their mathematics achievement test scores, even after motivational and attitude variables were controlled. The impact of the executive functioning was especially noticeable for the low achievers. On the other hand, for those whose scores were high, biological variables were the only significant predictors of their scores. The results of the present study imply that the intervention programs for improving mathematics achievement of middle school students should consider the different effect of cognitive and psychological factors on their achievements.
