  • Objectives: To identify the factors influencing the turnover intention of registered South Korean dental hygienists and analyze the effect sizes. Methods: Overall, 54 studies based on criteria of PICO from 1 January 2000 to 11 January 2022 were extracted. The factors related to turnover intention were applied to the ecological system theory and categorized. Subsequently, the effect size of the correlations was comprehensively meta-analyzed by dividing it into protective and risk factors depending on the negative or positive correlation direction. Results: For the overall effect size, the protective factor (ESr=-0.458) was higher than the risk factor (ESr=0.352). In the protective factors, organizational commitment and perceived organizational support belonging to the microsystem yielded the largest effect size. Furthermore, as for risk factors, burnout, job stress, work harassment, role conflict, and emotional labor belonging to the microsystem showed a moderate effect size. Conclusions: Factors belonging to the microsystem demonstrated a large effect size in both protection and risk factors for dental hygienists' turnover intention. Additionally, the factor showing the largest effect size was protective factor categorized into a microsystem.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the environmental characteristics of adolescents in low-income families, identify the high-risk & protective factors among environmental contexts surrounding adolescents, and investigate the relative importance of high-risk & protective factors to adolescents'psychological and behavioral adjustment separately. The present study was the primary research of developing prevention program for adolescents'deviant behaviors in low-income families. Subjects of this study consisted of 176 adolescents drawn from 8 social-welfare institutions in Chungbuk province. The pilot study was done to examine the applicability of survey instrument. Data were analyzed by the frequency, percentage, Pearson correlation, stepwise regression using SPSS/WIN program. The results were as followings: 1. There was statistically correlated with each other in environmental high-risk and protective factors except an housing environment. The results implies that environmental contexts itself surrounding adolescents in low-income families can be either high-risk factors or protective factors. 2. The adolescents in low-income families perceived that stresses from consumer and school environments were high-risk factors among other environmental contexts. 3. The adolescents in low-income families perceived that resources from friend and school were protective factors among other environmental contexts. 4. The stresses from friend and eating behaviors were significant factors predicting adolescents'relative psychological adjustment. However, the behavioral adjustment was not predicted by environmental contexts. 5. The resources from school, consumer, and eating behaviors were significant factors predicting adolescents'relative psychological adjustment. Also, the resources from school, eating behavior, and family were predictors of behavioral adjustment. This research implies that the findings can be based on the development of prevention program for adolescents deviant behaviors in low-income families.

  • Protective behavior of radiological technologists against radiation exposure is important to achieve reduction of the patient doses without compromising medical achievements. This study attempts to provide a basic model for the sophisticated intervention strategy that increases the level of the protective behavior of the technologists. The model was applied to real situations in Korea to demonstrate its utility. The results of this study are summarized as follows: First, the protective environment showed the highest relationship in the factors considered, r=0.637 (p<0.01). Secondly, the important factors were protective environment in environment characteristics, expectation for the protective behavior 0.228 (p<0.001), self-efficacy 0.142 (p<0.001), and attitude for the protective behavior 0.178 (p<0.001) in personal characteristics, and daily patient -0.112 (p<0.001) and number of the participation in the education session for the protective behavior 0.074 (p<0.05). Thirdly, the final protective behavior model by a path analysis method had direct influence on the attitude 0.171 (p<0.01) and environment 0.405 (p<0.01) for the protective behavior, self efficacy 0.122 (p<0.01), expectation for the protective behavior 0.16 (p<0.01), and self-efficacy in the specialty of projects 0.154 (p<0.01). The acceptance of the model determined by the absolute fit index (GFI), 0.969, and by the incremental fit index (CFI), 0.943, showed very significant levels. Value of $x^2$/df that is a factor applied to verify the acceptance of the model was 37, which implies that the result can be accepted in the desirable range. In addition, the parsimonious fit index configured by AGFI (0.890) and TLI (0.852) was also considered as a scale that accepts the model in practical applications. In case of the establishment of some specific intervention strategies based on the protective behavior model against harmful radiation effects proposed in this study, the strategy will provide an effective way to prevent medical harmful radiation effects that could cause severe injuries to people.

  • This study was conducted for the purpose of empirically analyzing the effects of adolescents' relationships with major adults as protective factors for smartphone addiction. Specifically, the study compared the discriminatory effects of adolescents' relationships with their parents, school teachers, and educational institute teachers on smartphone addiction among elementary, middle, and high school students in Korea. Analyzing the data of the 2019 Korean Children & Youth Happiness Index (N=7,454), it was found that relationships with adults were significant factors in explaining the level of smartphone addiction even after controlling for the influences of adolescents' demographics, usage time, and friendship factors. For elementary school students, good relationships with their mothers and school teachers decreased the risk of smartphone addiction. On the other hand, in the case of middle school students, only a good relationship with father functioned as a protective factor. Good relationships with their fathers and institute teachers decreased the level of high school students' smartphone addiction. Based on these findings, this study discussed on the development of programs and policies for prevention and intervention of adolescents' smartphone addiction and provided suggestions for follow-up research in the future.
