  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate a newly developed protective suit with the fragments of grenade. The protection efficiency should be strengthened upon the degree of wound. The fragment weight of the used grenade was measured and the kinetic energy of the maximum speed of the fragments in the field test was 137.7J and this could be the protective efficiency test by the multitude fragments in less than 0.031g of the M16A1. The panel inserted to the new demining suit has protection rate of 100% within the distance of 1m and sample II has protection rate of 100% only beyond the distance of 5m. The test showed that the protection rate on the protective suit of the existing garment was comparatively high, however, the protection rate of the sleeve part was very low. The new demining suit through the research demand some complementary measures to lower the temperatures in ear, average skin temperatures, and the temperatures-humidity inside the clothing for summer climate condition, It showed that 30 minutes of rest on the clothing was difficult to go back to the original condition. But in winter climate condition, there was no problem in the temperature, humidity, and comfort to go back to the original condition during the rest and was better in warmth.

  • Odontoglossum ringspot virus (ORSV) is a member of the genus Tobamovirus. It is one of the most prevalent viruses infecting orchids worldwide. Earlier studies reported the genetic variability of ORSV isolates from Korea and China. However, the evolutionary rate, timescale, and phylogeographical analyses of ORSV were unclear. Twenty-one coat protein (CP) gene sequences of ORSV were determined in this study, and used them together with 145 CP sequences obtained from GenBank to infer the genetic diversities, evolutionary rate, timescale and migration of ORSV populations. Evolutionary rate of ORSV populations was $1.25{\times}10^{-3}nucleotides/site/y$. The most recent common ancestors came from 30 year ago (95% confidence intervals, 26-40). Based on CP gene, ORSV migrated from mainland China and South Korea to Taiwan island, Germany, Australia, Singapore, and Indonesia, and it also circulated within east Asia. Our study is the first attempt to evaluate the evolutionary rates, timescales and migration dynamics of ORSV.

  • The principal factor determining an optimum design method for cathodic protection is finding the protection current for preventing the corrosion of existing, already laid pipe. Some factors currently used to test designs include the sizes and lengths of pipes, soil resistivity, and the coating damage rate. We believe this method and current formulae are not optimum due to the uncertainty of determining the coating damage rate and the corrosion protection current's density. This paper analyzes the amount of protection current obtained by performing a temporary current test using data describing existing laid pipe. We then propose determining the corrosion protection current by using the temporary current test after modifying the formula. In addition, we suggest a way to choose optimized cathodic protection and the process of design by executing the design and taking account of such factors as a site condition of 34km-long non-protected water supply pipe lines (stages I and II) in ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ region, climate, interferences, and durability.

  • Objective : The main concern during transfemoral carotid artery stenting (CAS) is preventing cerebral embolus dislodgement. We compared clinical outcomes and intraprocedural embolization rates of CAS using a distal filter protection device or proximal balloon occlusion device. Methods : From January 2011 to March 2015, a series of 58 patients with symptomatic or asymptomatic internal carotid artery stenosis ${\geq}70%$ were treated with CAS with embolic protection device in single center. All patients underwent post-CAS diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) to detect new ischemic lesions. We compared clinical outcomes and postprocedural embolization rates. Results : CAS was performed in all 61 patients. Distal filter protection success rate was 96.6% (28/29), whose mean age was 70.9 years, and mean stenosis was 81%. Their preprocedural infarction rate was 39% (11/28). Subsequent DW-MRI revealed 96 new ischemic lesions in 71% (20/28) patients. In contrast, the proximal balloon occlusion device success rate was 93.8% (30/32), whose mean age was 68.8 years and mean stenosis was 86%. Preprocedure infarction rate was 47% (14/30). DW-MRI revealed 45 new ischemic lesions in 57% (17/30) patients. Compared with distal filter protection device, proximal balloon occlusion device resulted in fewer ischemic lesions per patient (p=0.028). In each group, type of stent during CAS had no significant effect on number of periprocedural embolisms. Only 2 neurologic events occurred in the successfully treated patients (one from each group). Conclusion : Transfemoral CAS with proximal balloon occlusion device achieves good results. Compared with distal filter protection, proximal balloon occlusion might be more effective in reducing cerebral embolism during CAS.

  • Cathodic protection is being widely used to protect steel structures in sea water environment, In order to protect steel structures completely, the flow condition of sea water surrounding with this structures and the surface condition of the structures must be considered for a desirable design of cathodic protection. In this study, the optimum protection potential and current density were investigated in terms of cathodic current density, surface condition and a flow condition of sea water. The optium protection potential of the cleaned specimen was -770 mV(SCE) and below. However in the case of the rusted specimen, its potential was -700 mV(SCE) and below, which was somewhat positive than the cleaned one irrespective of flow condition. The optimum cathodic protection current density for both the cleaned and rusted specimens was 100 mA/$\textrm{m}^2$, however, on the flow condition, 200 mA/$\textrm{m}^2$ to be supplied for cathodic protection of steel structures completely for both cleaned and rusted specimens.

  • The Reactor Protection System (RPS) is a very important system in a nuclear power plant because the system shuts down the reactor to maintain the reactor core integrity and the reactor coolant system pressure boundary if the plant conditions approach the specified safety limits. This paper describes the unavailability assessment of a digital reactor protection system using the fault tree analysis technique. The fault tree technique can be expressed in terms of combinations of the basic event failures. In this paper, a prediction method of the hardware failure rate is suggested for a digital reactor protection system. and applied to the reactor protection system being developed in Korea.

  • This study examined the pretreatment effect, appropriate dyeing conditions, color fastness and functionality of cotton fabrics dyed with Zizania latifolia Turcz. Dye uptake was substantially increased by pretreatment and chitosan pretreatment was much more effective than tannic acid pretreatment. Optimal dyeing conditions were colorant concentration of 100%, dyeing temperature of $100^{\circ}C$, dyeing time of 80 minutes and dyebath pH of 5.5. Color fastness of chitosan pretreatment and dyed cotton to washing, rubbing, perspiration and light was 4, 5, 3-4(acidic), 3(alkaline) and 3 respectively. Color fastness of tannic acid pretreatment and dyed cotton to washing, rubbing, perspiration and light was 4, 5, 3-4(acidic), 4-5(alkaline) and 4 respectively. Deodorization rates of ammonia(NH3) were 99.9% in both cases. UV protection rate were 98.3% of UV-A and 98.5% of UV-B in case of chitosan pretreatment. UV protection rate were 98.2% of UV-A and 98.5% of UV-B in case of tannic acid pretreatment. UV protection factor(UPF) was 50+ in both cases. Reduction rate of Staphyloccus aureus were 99.9% in both cases. Therefore Zizania latifolia Turcz. could be used a new functional colorant.

  • Due to the development of manufacturing technology scaling, more transistors can be placed on a cache memories of a processor. However, processors become more vulnerable to the soft errors because of highly integrated transistors, the reliability of cache memory must consider seriously at the design level. Various researches are proposed to overcome the vulnerability of soft error, but researches of tag bit are proposed very rarely. In this paper, we revaluate the reliability improvement technique for tag bit, and analyse the protection rate of write-back operation, which is a typical case of not satisfying temporal locality. We also propose the methodology to improve the protection rate of write-back operation. The experiments of the proposed scheme shows up to 76.8% protection rate without performance degradations.
