  • The objectives of this study are to identify the survival function (hazard function) of small and medium enterprises by using technology rating data for the companies guaranteed by Korea Technology Finance Corporation (KOTEC), and to figure out the factors that affects their survival. To serve the purposes, this study uses Kaplan-Meier Analysis as a non-parametric method and Cox proportional hazards model as a semi-parametric one. The 17,396 guaranteed companies that assessed from July 1st in 2005 to December 31st in 2009 are selected as samples (16,504 censored data and 829 accident data). The survival time is computed with random censoring (Type III) from July in 2005 as a starting point. The results of the analysis show that Kaplan-Meier Analysis and Cox proportional hazards model are able to readily estimate survival and hazard function and to perform comparative study among group variables such as industry and technology rating level. In particular, Cox proportional hazards model is recognized that it is useful to understand which technology rating items are meaningful to company's survival and how much they affect it. It is considered that these results will provide valuable knowledge for practitioners to find and manage the significant items for survival of the guaranteed companies through future technology rating.

  • Crossover trials of new drugs in the treatment of angina pectoris, which frequently use treadmill exercise test for the assessment of its efficacy, produce censored survival times. In this paper we consider analysis approaches for censored survival times from crossover trials. Previously, a stratified Cox model for paired observation and nonparametric methods have been presented as possible analysis methods. On the other hand, the differences of two survival times would produce interval-censored survival times and we propose a Cox model for interval-censored data as n alternative analysis method. Example data is analyzed in order to compare these different methods.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to establish an accurate and effective method of locating acupoints of the forearm by studying bone proportional measurement. Methods : A total of 60 volunteers, 30 men and 30 women, participated in this study. 7 parts of the body were measured by a soft ruler or digital vernier calipers. The cun of the upper limb was calculated and analyzed. And the results were compared with the standard cun. Results : The bone proportional cun of the forearm based on height and femur was close to 11. It was different from the standard 12.5, 12 or 10. The cun of the forearm by thumb or finger width measurement was different from the standard too. Conclusions : We suggest that locating acupoints of the forearm needs to be done based on 11 cun. The confusion on locating acupoints of the forearm will be reduced by reflecting the result of the actual measurement.

  • The $^3He$ proportional chamber is widely used for neutron measurement owing to its high neutron detection efficiency and simplicity for gamma-ray rejection. In general, the neutron and gamma-ray signals obtained from the $^3He$ proportional chamber can be easily separated by the difference in the pulse heights. However, for a high gamma-ray field, the gamma-ray signal cannot be precisely eliminated by the pulse height due to gamma-ray pulse pileup which causes the pulse height of gamma-ray pulse to increase and making the pulses due to neutrons and gamma rays indistinguishable. In this study, an improved algorithm for $n/{\gamma}$ discrimination using a parameter, which is the ratio of the rise time to the pulse height, is proposed. The $n/{\gamma}$ discrimination performance of the algorithm is evaluated by applying it to $^{252}Cf$ neutron signal separation from various gamma-ray exposure rate levels ranging 0.1-5 R/h. The performance is compared to that of the conventional pulse-height analysis method in terms of the gamma elimination ratio. The suggested algorithm shows better performance than the conventional one by 1.7% (at 0.1 R/h) to 70% (at 5 R/h) for gamma elimination.

  • Power allocation is a technique that evenly allocates samples for each stratum, although the overall efficiency of the allocation is less than that of optimal allocation, and it is often used as a square root proportional allocation in real survey. Also, considering the non-response that occurs in real survey, a larger sample size is used than that in the theoretical formula. In this study, in determining the sample size for each stratum, we study the new methods of allocating by adding information on the response rate per each stratum to power allocation method. The proposed allocation methods are compare with proportional, optimal, and square root proportional allocation in simulation. In addition, the comparison with the proportional and optimal allocation to which the response rate was added is examined through simulation. As a result, we examine the advantages and disadvantages of the allocation methods.

  • Background : The cun measurement system, an essential and convenient method in locating acupoints, has been widely used in the practice of acupuncture. However, traditional cun measurement has been criticized for its lack of reliability. Objectives : The purposes of this study are to determine if one cun measured by the directional methods have a consistency with that of proportional methods and to investigate which factors are related with these differences, especially in forearm. Methods : The distance between the elbow crease and the wrist crease of forearm was compared to a reference value of one cun obtained by the directional method. In this method, one cun is one third of the distance between index finger and small finger of a subject, measured at proximal interphalangeal joint. In addition, to investigate the factors influencing the differences between these two methods, we measured the height and body weight and calculated body mass index (BMI). Finally we analyzed the factors correlated with these lengths by linear regression test. Results : The results showed that one cun obtained by the directional methods were significantly different from one cun by the proportional methods in forearm. It was demonstrated that the length acquired with the directional method was more correlated with body weight and body mass index, while the length obtained by the proportional method was more correlated with the height. Conclusion : These findings suggest that the directional method is less likely dependable in locating acupoints than the proportional method because the influencing factors are different.

  • Proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers are widely used in industrial sites. Most tuning methods for PID controllers use an empirical and experimental approach; thus, the experience and intuition of a designer greatly affect the tuning of the controller. The representative methods include the closed-loop tuning method of Ziegler-Nichols (Z-N), the C-C tuning method, and the Internal Model Control tuning method. There has been considerable research on the tuning of PID controllers for single-input single-output systems but very little for multi-input multi-output systems. It is more difficult to design PID controllers for multi-input multi-output systems than for single-input single-output systems because there are interactive control loops that affect each other. This paper presents a tuning method for the PID controller for a two-input two-output system. The proposed method uses a real-coded genetic algorithm (RCGA) as an optimization tool, which optimizes the PID controller parameters for minimizing the given objective function. Three types of objective functions are selected for the RCGA, and each PID controller parameter is determined accordingly. The performance of the proposed method is compared with that of the Z-N method, and the validity of the proposed method is examined.

  • In this study, a wrapping program was developed to analyze a proportional solenoid valve more easily using a conventional finite element method (FEM) tool. To achieve an accurate solution when analyzing a solenoid valve, finite element analysis (FEA) is more suitable than a lumped method. To develop a program for modeling and analyzing the valve performance using FEA code for the user's convenience, it is assumed that the solenoid valve is composed of some simple geometries, namely, a triangle and a rectangle. This assumption helps users to model a solenoid valve simply. To check the feasibility of the developed code, an actual solenoid valve is analyzed, and it is found that the code can suitably analyze this valve. The characteristics of the proportional valve are well identified as indicated through the graphs.

  • The Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) is considered as a novel modulation and multiple access technique for 4th generation wireless systems. In this paper, we formulate a base station's power allocation algorithm for each user to maximize the user's sum rate, subject to constraints on total power, bit error rate, and rate proportionality among the users for a better proportional rate adaptive (RA) resource allocation method for OFDMA based system. We propose a novel power allocation method based on the proportion of subcarrier allocation and the user's normalized proportionality constant. We adapt a greedy algorithm and waterfilling technique for allocating the subcarriers among the users. In an end-to-end simulation, we validate that the proposed technique has higher system capacity and lower CPU execution times, while maintaining the acceptable rate proportionality among users.

  • The bearing capacity of roadside support is the key problem in gob-side entry retaining technology. To study the cooperative bearing characteristics of the roof-roadside support-floor along the gob-side entry retaining, a mechanical model of the composite structure of the roof-roadside support-floor was first established. A method for determining the structural parameters of gob-side entry retaining was then proposed. Based on this model, adaptability analysis of roadside support was carried out. The results showed that the reasonable width of the gob-side entry roadway was inversely proportional to the mining height, and directly proportional to the bearing strength of the roof and floor. And the reasonable width of the "flexible-hard" roadside support was directly proportional to its own strength, and inversely proportional to the width of the gob-side entry retaining. When determining the position and size of the roadside support along the gob-side entry retaining, the surrounding rock environment should be fully considered. Measured results from case study also show the rationality of the model and calculation method.
