  • In this study, effect of surface modification of waste glass for fine aggregates on the mechanical properties and alkali silica reaction of mortar was analyzed. As a result, it was confirmed that the incorporation of waste glass fine aggregate decreases the mechanical properties of the mortar and increase the alkali silica reaction expansion. On the other hand, the surface modification of the waste glass fine aggregate is effective in improving this problem. However, unlike green and brown waste glass, it is judged that an additional experiment to determine the cause is necessary for white waste glass where alkali silica reactive expansion occurs extremely.

  • The success of analyzing the behavior of reinforced concrete structures at elevated temperature greatly depends on how accurately certain thermal properties, especially thermal expansion, specific heat and density thermal conductivity can be determined in a wide temperature range. In this Paper, in order to Predict the behavior of reinforced concrete structure in fire hazards thermal expansion characteristics of normal concrete are formulated through experimental investigation.

  • The $GCF_{\epsilon}$ expansion is a new class of continued fractions induced by the transformation $T_{\epsilon}:(0, 1]{\rightarrow}(0, 1]$: $T_{\epsilon}(x)={\frac{-1+(k+1)x}{1+k-k{\epsilon}x}}$ for $x{\in}(1/(k+1),1/k]$. Under the algorithm $T_{\epsilon}$, every $x{\in}(0,1]$ corresponds to an increasing digits sequences $\{k_n,n{\geq}1\}$. Their basic properties, including the ergodic properties, law of large number and central limit theorem have been discussed in [4], [5] and [7]. In this paper, we study the large deviation for the $GCF_{\epsilon}$ expansion and show that: $\{{\frac{1}{n}}{\log}k_n,n{\geq}1\}$ satisfies the different large deviation principles when the parameter ${\epsilon}$ changes in [-1, 1], which generalizes a result of L. J. Zhu [9] who considered a case when ${\epsilon}(k){\equiv}0$ (i.e., Engel series).

  • The fabrication process of the honeycomb filter was investigated using synthesized cordierite with the addition of pore former and extrusion additives (either organic matter or graphite). Also, the effect of additives on the resultant properties of honeycomb filter such as porosity, thermal expansion coefficient and mechanical strength were investigated. With increasing the organic matter up to 10 wt%, porosity was increased but compressive strength was decreased. With increasing the graphite content, however, both porosity and compressive strength were increased. The specimen with an optimum processing condition (C-17A30G, sintering at $1150^{\circ}C$) was demonstrated 59% in porosity, 69 MPa in compressive strength, and $2.4{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C\;(25{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$) in thermal expansion coefficient, which physical properties are appropriate for the honeycomb filter applications.

  • The slag through sieve #4 replaced the natural fine aggregate in different proportions (0-50%) to make ready-mixed soil and slag (RMSAS). The fresh properties studied, and the concrete specimens were produced to test the hardened properties at different ages. Results showed that the workability of RMSAS decreases when the replacement increases. The unit weight increases with the replacement. The setting time extends when the replacement decreases and shortens when the replacement increases. The compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity and hammer rebound value increase with the replacement. However, the high-replacement results decrease because of the expansion factor at late age. Resistivity is close and less than $20k{\Omega}-cm$. After the industrial of steelmaking by-products are processed properly, they can be used in civil engineering, not only as a substitute for natural resources and to reduce costs, but also to provide environmental protection.

  • The relationship between the precipitation of secondary phase and the thermal properties of Al-4.5%Cu alloy (in wt.%) after various heat treatments has been studied. Solid solution treatment of alloy was performed at 808 K for 6 hours, followed by warm water quenching; then, the samples were aged in air at 473 K for different times. The thermal diffusivity of the Al-4.5%Cu alloy changed with the heat treatment conditions of the alloy at temperatures below 523 K. The as-quenched specimen had the lowest thermal diffusivity, and as the artificial aging time increased, the thermal diffusivity of the specimen increased in the temperature range between 298 and 523 K. For the specimen aged for five hours, the thermal conductivity was 12% higher than that of the as-quenched specimens at 298 K. It is confirmed that the thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity of the Al-4.5%Cu alloy significantly depend on their thermal history at temperatures below 523 K. The precipitation and dissolution of the Al2Cu phase were confirmed via DSC for the alloys, and the formation of coefficient of thermal expansion peaks in TMA was caused by precipitation. The precipitation of supersaturated solid solution of Al-4.5%Cu alloys had an additional linear expansion of ≈ 0.05 % at 643 K during thermal expansion measurement.

  • The present work has suggested the design methods of the bolt body for making the anti-releasing bolts and provided the changed properties of the bolt body after explosion. To prove this work, two models of the anti-releasing bolts, M10 and M20, are produced and the expansion properties of each model are experimentally obtained. This study verify that the expansion of the bolt body is reproducible and the expansion rate could be controlled by the combination of the design factors and the anti-releasing characteristics could be quantified. It also could provide the data that would be needed to make the bolts with the anti-releasing effect.

  • There has been a considerable attention on Invar alloys due to its low thermal expansion property. A low thermal expansion property of Invar alloys, lower than $10^{-6}$ near the room temperature, is attractive for electric transmission lines and precision machine tools. However, the expansion property of Invar alloys is limited below about 520K, and mechanical properties are relatively low to apply to electric transmission line. In order to improve mechanical properties in this alloy, Ti alloying element was added to the $Ni_{38}-Mo_2-Cr_1-Fe$ invar alloy. The microstructure Ti added alloy showed finer than that of the unalloyed one. It was found that the (Mo, Ti), Mo carbide formed by Ti addition obstacled grain growth by pinning effect and supplyed recrystallization sites during heat-treatment. Optimum heat-treatment conditions with Ti addition were also discussed in the modified Invar alloy.

  • The effects of pellet moisture content on physical properties (expansion ratio, density and breaking strength) of vacuum-puffed Yukwa (non-oil puffed Yukwa) were investigated in this study. The Yukwa was made from the waxy rice steeped at 25 and $30^{\circ}C$ for 3, 5 and 10 days with pellet drying times (6, 8 and 10.5 hr). As the drying time increased from 6 to 10.5 hr at $50^{\circ}C$, the highest value of pellet moisture content (29.4%) was found in the samples made from the steeped waxy rice at $25^{\circ}C$ for 5 days after 6 hr drying, while the lowest value (16.3%) was found at $25^{\circ}C$ for 3 days after 10.5 hr drying. Both redness and yellowness values of vacuum-puffed Yukwa increased as the drying time increased. The expansion ratio of Yukwa was greatly affected by drying time, ranging from 2.07 (26.8% pellet moisture content) to 7.01 (24.0% pellet moisture content). From the data, it can be concluded that the pellet moisture content had a significant influence on the physical characteristics of vacuum-puffed Yukwa. With vacuum puffing condition of 3 min heating and 2 min puffing, the pellets with about 25% moisture content showed higher expansion ratio, and lower density and breaking strength.
