  • The technique of proper orthogonal decomposition is potentially useful in specifying the fluctuating surface pressure field around structures. However there has been a degree of controversy over whether or not the calculated modes have physical meanings. This paper addresses this issue through consideration of the results of full scale experiments, and through an analytical investigation. It is concluded that the lower, most energetic modes are likely to reflect different fluctuating flow mechanisms, although no mode is likely to be associated with just one flow mechanism or vice versa. The higher, less energetic modes are likely to represent interactions between different flow mechanisms, and to be significantly affected by the number of measurement points and measurement errors. The paper concludes with a brief description of the application of POD to the problem of building ventilation, and the calculation of cladding pressures.

  • The methods that track and detect motion field based on image difference of successive images from camera can separate motion field and background effectively, but because of noise and background images getting proper difference images is hard to achieve. In this paper we propose a method that can improve difference image quality significantly. Three step process is used. At the first step, existence of motion field is determined, the second step is finding proper threshold value using 'Contrast Streching' technique which enables us to find proper motion field even in complex images. At last step, remaining noise is removed and motion field is determined.

  • Nowadays, there has been an increasing interest in the preservation of natural dentition and the proper occlusion related to tooth wear for quality of life. Tooth wear means the loss of tooth enamel structure. This is happened by many causes which is the combined effects of many mechanisms. For keeping proper occlusion, dentists should check tooth wear status with acceptable methods and tools for the proper diagnosis. Until now, there have been many traditional qualitative ways to measure tooth wear which are intuitive, rapid, and simple. On the contrast, they are not objective nor reproducible. With the development of related technique, new quantitative methods using CAD and 3d scanners. This article aimed to introduce qualitative and quantitative methods for tooth wear measurements.

  • The present study has focused on the characteristics of droplet formation from an inkjet nozzle driven by a piezoelectric actuator. As an operating fluid, ethylene glycol was used and the physical properties of it such as viscosity, surface tension, contact angle and shear stress were measured. During the experiments, various temperatures and driving voltages are imposed on a capillary tube. These conditions result in a proper drive condition or an overdrive condition. In case of the proper drive condition, an image processing technique is applied to measure the diameter of a single free drop. As a result, the size of droplet is increased when the driving voltage is increased from 160 V to 190 V at 25$^{\circ}C$ In the overdrive condition where temperature or driving voltage becomes higher than the proper drive condition, satellites and the misdirected jets happen.

  • Fuel costs represent one of the most substantial expenses for airlines, accounting for 20% - 36% of the airline's total operating cost. The present study discusses the so-called discretionary fuel that is additionally loaded at the discretion of airlines to cover unforeseen variations from the planned flight operations. The proper range of the discretionary fuel to be loaded for economic flight operations was estimated by applying Monte Carlo simulation technique. With this simulation model for loading discretionary fuel, airlines cannot only reduce the total amount of fuel to be consumed but also minimize the risk of unplanned flight disruptions caused by insufficient fuel on board. Airlines should be able to guarantee proper risk management processes for fuel boarding by carrying enough fuel to high-risk airports. This study would provide a practical guideline for loading proper amounts of discretionary fuel. Future researchers should be encouraged to improve this study by elaborating the weather variable.

  • In this paper, a technique is proposed that enables secondary users to evaluate channel availability in cognitive radio networks. Here, secondary users estimate the utilization of channels via predicting the traffic pattern of primary user, and select a proper channel for radio transmission. The proposed technique reduces the channel switching rate of secondary users (the rate of switching from one channel to another) and the interference on primary users, while maintaining a reasonable call blocking rate of secondary users.

  • A mesh superposition technique is presented for an efficient analysis of structural behavior. Refined child mesh is superimposed over parent elements for the region of interest. It is a kind of adaptive mesh refinement, which allows locally refined mesh without introducing transition region or multipoint constraints. Proper boundary condition is necessary to avoid redundant rigid body motion and kinematic compatibility between neighbor elements. Delamination buckling analysis is conducted to demonstrate accuracy and efficiency of the present method.

  • In the temperature analysis, the heat transfer between the workpiece and the die has an important influence upon the temperature distribution. The accuracy of thermal analysis depends on the proper description of boundafy conditions. A t the contact surface of two materials with different temperature, this requires the knowledge of overall heat transfer coefficients. In order to evaluate the overall heat transfer coefficients, a technique is developed. This technique involves temperature measurement at the contact surface during hot upsetting operations and finite element computation to calcualte the overall heat transfer coefficient.

  • The arthroscopic treatment may prove to be the desirable method, but this arthroscopic technique cannot be appliable to all surgeons and all patients, It should be determined on the base of type of lesion, effectiveness of arthroscopic procedure, and the surgeon's skill. The Key to an excellent result in arthroscopic treatment of rotator cuff lesion is doing a proper diagnosis, well-established arthroscopic technique and following through a well-designed rehabilitation program.
