The Effects of Prompts, Environmental Alteration, and Feedback on Reduction of Food Wastes (환경변화, 프롬트 및 피드백이 음식물 쓰레기 감량에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examined the effects of prompts, environmental alteration, and feedback on reduction of food wastes. The study was conducted at a student restaurant at a university. Subjects in this study were college students, faculty members and administrative staffs at the university. An A-BC-BCD-BC within subject design was employed. After baseline phase(A), prompts and environmental alteration were manipulated in the second phase(BC). In the next phase(BCD), feedback was added in addition to the prompts and environmental alteration. In the last phase(B), all the treatments except environmental alteration were withdrawn. The dependent variables n cluded (1) total weight of food waste per day, (2), the weight of food waster per person, (3) the ratio of food waste to total food served per day, (4) total amount of monetary value for food waste to total food served per day. The results indicated that prompts and environmental alteration were affective in reducing food wastes. Thus, measures of all the dependent variables decreased when environmental alteration and prompts were manupulated. However, when feedbacks were added to prompts and environmental alteration, the additional effect of feedback was not observed. The implications and limitations of these findings were discussed and the directions of future studies were also proposed.

  • This study examined the effect of environmental alteration and prompts on recycling behavior. An A-B-BC with a control condition design was employed. Subjects in this study were college students, professors, and employees at a university building. After a baseline phase, environmental alteration was I effect in the next phase and both environmental alteration and prompts were in effect in the final phase for the control condition. The environmental alteration consisted of providing four separation containers for the paper cups, cans recyclable paper, and the disposable on each floor in the building. The prompts consisted of providing the information about the importance of environmental preservation and how to separate the materials in the appropriate containers using an information board and pamphlets. The dependent variables were (1) the number of cans collected in can container, (2) the number of paper cups collected in cup container, (3) the rate of correct separation of cans, (4) the rate of correct separation of paper cups, and (5) the weight of disposable. The rates of correct separations of cans and paper cups were obtained by calculating the percentage of thenumber of recyclable cans and paper cups in the corresponding containers. The results indicated that environmental alteration had positive effects on all the dependent variables. Also, when the prompts were added to the environmental alteration, the incremental effect of the prompts was demonstrated. The implications and limitations of theses findings were discussed and the direction of future studies was also proposed.

Speech Coarticulation Database of Korean and English ($\cdot$ 영 동시조음 데이터베이스의 구축)

  • We present the first speech coarticulation database of Korean, English and Konglish/sup 3)/ named "SORIDA"/sup 4)/, which is designed to cover the maximum number of representations of coarticulation in these languages [1]. SORIDA features a compact database which is designed to contain a maximum number of triphones in a minimum number of prompts. SORIDA contains all consonantal triphones and vowel allophones in 682 Korean prompts of word length and in 717 English prompt words, spoken five times by speakers of balanced genders, dialects and ages. Korean prompts are synthesized lexicons which maximize their coarticulation variation disregarding any stress phenomena, while English prompts are natural words that fully reflect their stress effects with respect to the coarticulation variation. The prompts are designed differently because English phonology has stress while Korean does not. An intermediate language, Konglish has also been modeled by two Korean speakers reading 717 English prompt words. Recording was done in a controlled laboratory environment with an AKG Model C-100 microphone and a Fostex D-5 digital-audio-tape (DAT) recorder. The total recording time lasted four hours. SORIDA CD-ROM is available in one disk of 22.05 kHz sampling rate with a 16 bit sample size. SORIDA digital audio-tapes are available in four 124-minute-tapes of 48 kHz sampling rate. SORIDA′s list of phonetically-rich-words is also available in English and Korean.

Effects of Giving Prompts and Asking for Self-Explanation Depend on the Students' Need for Cognition (촉진질문 제공과 자기설명 지시가 기억과 이해에 미치는 영향: 인지욕구와의 상호작용)

  • A three factor experiment was conducted to explore the effects of giving prompts and asking for self explanation and the modulating effect of the need for cognition (NC) on the two interventions. The effects of giving prompts and asking for self explanation were different depending on the task and the level of need for cognition. Participants of low NC conditions showed the prompt effect and the self explanation effect in the memory tests. On the other hand, participants in the high NC conditions performed better in the comprehension test when they were given prompts and were asked to self explain. However, high NC participants performed worse when they were asked to self explain without providing the prompts. The results were interpreted to suggest the importance of detecting the right parts in getting the self explanation effect.

  • Alternate pictures that are proven to be equivalent are in high demand to assess creative thinking and language skills. This study aimed to investigate the equivalence of three pictures ('Dog owners,' 'Lost Dog,' and 'Overslept') recently developed for use in a creative writing task. Middle school students (N=183) wrote a story in English based on one of the three prompts distributed randomly. Four writing features (fluency, syntactic complexity, lexical diversity, and temporality) were analyzed with Coh-Metrix and MANCOVA. The three prompts were largely equivalent in their capacity to detect differences among writers in all the features of writing. The difficulty levels of the three prompts, however, were not necessarily the same. Two prompts, Dog Owners and Lost Dog, were verified as equivalent prompts, and therefore, they are recommended as alternate forms to assess creative language skills in repeated measurements. The Overslept prompt had greater facility in eliciting diverse words and more temporal connectives in composing stories. The differential difficulty shown among the prompts suggests that the validity of using different picture versions in repeated assessment remains questionable unless those versions undergo equivalence verification.

The Effect of Behavior Based Safety Program on Safe Behaviors of Bus Drivers and Passengers: A Field Case Study (행동기반 안전관리(Behavior Based Safety: BBS) 프로그램이 버스 기사 및 승객의 안전행동에 미치는 효과 검증: 현장 사례 연구)

  • This study examined the effect of Behavior Based Safety(BBS) program on safe behaviors of bus drivers and passengers. Four male bus drivers working at a H transportation company situated in Seoul participated in this study. BBS program consisted of education, prompts, and self-monitoring with goal setting. Dependent variables were the percentage of two safe driving behaviors of bus drivers (departure after stopping for 3 seconds, announcement for holding bus handles) and the percentage of one safe behavior of passengers getting on the busses those drivers drove (holding bus handles). A primary observer and two trained assistant observers measured two safe behaviors of the bus drivers with behavior checklists by riding on the busses and the passengers' safe behavior was observed by CCTV installed on each bus. An ABC multiple baseline design across participants was adopted. After baseline(A), education and prompts(B) and self-monitoring with goal setting(C) were introduced sequentially to each participant. The results showed that BBS program was effective to increase both bus drivers' and passengers' safe behaviors. Especially self-monitoring with goal setting was more effective in improving safe behaviors of bus drivers than education/prompts. These results suggest that education/prompts and self-monitoring with goal setting would be an alternative treatment technique to improve safety for lone workers such as bus drivers.

Effective ChatGPT Prompts in Mathematical Problem Solving : Focusing on Quadratic Equations and Quadratic Functions (수학 문제 해결에서 효과적인 ChatGPT의 프롬프트 고찰: 이차방정식과 이차함수를 중심으로)

  • This study investigates effective ChatGPT prompts for solving mathematical problems, focusing on the chapters of quadratic equations and quadratic functions. A structured prompt was designed, following a sequence of 'Role-Rule-Example Solution-Problem-Process'. In this study, an artificial intelligence model combining GPT-4, Wolfram plugin, and Advanced Data Analysis was utilized. Wolfram was used as the primary tool for calculations to reduce computational errors. When using the structured prompt, the accuracy rate for problems from nine high school mathematics textbooks on quadratic equations and quadratic functions was 91%, showing higher performance compared to zero-shot prompts. This confirmed the effectiveness of the structured prompts in solving mathematical problems. The structured prompts designed in this study can contribute to the development of intelligent information systems for personalized and customized education.

Inducing Harmful Speech in Large Language Models through Korean Malicious Prompt Injection Attacks (한국어 악성 프롬프트 주입 공격을 통한 거대 언어 모델의 유해 표현 유도)

  • Recently, various AI chatbots based on large language models have been released. Chatbots have the advantage of providing users with quick and easy information through interactive prompts, making them useful in various fields such as question answering, writing, and programming. However, a vulnerability in chatbots called "prompt injection attacks" has been proposed. This attack involves injecting instructions into the chatbot to violate predefined guidelines. Such attacks can be critical as they may lead to the leakage of confidential information within large language models or trigger other malicious activities. However, the vulnerability of Korean prompts has not been adequately validated. Therefore, in this paper, we aim to generate malicious Korean prompts and perform attacks on the popular chatbot to analyze their feasibility. To achieve this, we propose a system that automatically generates malicious Korean prompts by analyzing existing prompt injection attacks. Specifically, we focus on generating malicious prompts that induce harmful expressions from large language models and validate their effectiveness in practice.

  • This paper describes an efficient algorithm to generate compact and complete prompts lists for connected spoken digits database. In building a connected spoken digit recognizer, we have to acquire speech data in various contexts. However, in many speech databases the lists are made by using random generators. We provide an efficient algorithm that can generate compact and complete lists of digits in various contexts. This paper includes the proof of optimality and completeness of the algorithm.

Differences in the Use of Heuristics When a Sixth Grader Solves a Problem

  • The purpose of this study is to look at the use of heuristics when a sixth grader solves a problem. Two research questions have been formulated: The similarities and differences in the use of heuristics when a student solves two problems that are science-knowledge-based and not science-knowledge-based, and the different types of prompts. A male sixth grade student participated in this study. All of the information for the study was collected in three interviews. The interviews began with observing the student's solving problems. The student was asked how and why he solved problem that way. There were some interactions between the researcher and the student during the interview procedures. As results of this study, eight general heuristics were used in both solutions: Check examples for support of an idea: check examples for exceptions to an idea: restate the problem: compare to known examples or patterns: make a hypothesis; check the relevance of other information present; use analogy: and recognize patterns/similarity. There seemed to be more similarities than differences in the type of general heuristic that were used in the two problem solutions. The student was systematic and consistent in his use of the general use of heuristics. Five types of interviewer prompts were detected in the two problem solutions, directional cues, modeling, clarity, problem posing, metacognition and validation.
