PSC box girder bridges are built through the repetitive manufacturing process of concrete segment. However, during the initial segment manufacturing stage, design change may occur frequently due to design errors and interferences between components, resulting in the extension of segment manufacturing period. This paper aims to verify the manufacturing process of PSC box girder segment by 3D simulation technique. All the components of a segment were modelled and assembled by simulation technique and then, some design errors were found and revised appropriately to optimize the manufacturing process of segment. Consequently, 3D simulation technique would be promising to improve the quality of the segment and to reduce its manufacturing time and cost.
Truck platooning, which is a cluster of trucks in support of vehicle-to-vehicle communication and automated longitudinal vehicle control, is a promising method to both operational efficiency and prevent traffic crashes. Although a variety of studies have been conducted to identify the effects of vehicle platooning on traffic stream, we are not aware of any study attempting to identify promising road segments for vehicle platooning. This study aims to develop a methodology for determining the priority of freeway segments that would potentially lead to maximize the effectiveness of truck platooning. Evaluation measures derived in this study includes truck crash rates, the percentage of truck traffic, segment length, and the number of entry and exit points. Weighting values obtained from an analytical hierarchical process (AHP) method were applied to compute the proposed priority score to determine better freeway segment for truck platooning. Results suggested that a 46.9km freeway segment, from Sacheon IC to Sanin JC, was the most promising segment for maximizing the effectiveness of truck platooning. It is expected that the outcome of this study would be effectively used as a fundamental to establish operational strategies for truck platooning.
In this letter, we study the protection problem in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks, and propose a novel dynamic heuristic algorithm called differentiated reliable segment protection (DRSP). Differing from previous work, DRSP can effectively avoid the trap problem and is able to find a feasible solution for each connection request. Therefore, DRSP outperforms the previous work. Simulation results have shown to be promising.
Fractal coding is a promising method for image compression, but it has not lived up to its promise as low bit-rate image compression scheme. The existing algorithms for finding self-mapping contractive transforms are computationally expensive and offer a poor rate-quality tradeoff. In this paper, we propose a segment based fractal coding. We classify the range blocks into shade, midrange or edge blocks, and segment edge block along the edge. And we apply midrange coding scheme for each segment. Our experiments show that our method gives better rate-qualty trade of than current fractal block coding methods.
An important aspect of video indexing is the ability to segment video into meaningful segments, i.e., content-based video segmentation. Since the audio signal in the sound track is synchronized with image sequences in the video program, a speech signal in the sound track can be used to segment video into meaningful segments. In this paper, we propose a new approach to content-based video segmentation. This approach uses closed caption to construct a recognition network for speech recognition. Accurate time information for video segmentation is then obtained from the speech recognition process. For the video segmentation experiment for TV news programs, we made 56 video summaries successfully from 57 TV news stories. It demonstrates that the proposed scheme is very promising for content-based video segmentation.

This research aims to develop a deep learning-based method that automatically detects and segments the defects on railroad surfaces to reduce the cost of visual inspection of the railroad. We developed our segmentation model by modifying a fully convolutional network model [1], a well-known segmentation model used for machine learning, to detect and segment railroad surface defects. The data used in this research are images of the railroad surface with one or more defect regions. Railroad images were cropped to a suitable size, considering the long height and relatively narrow width of the images. They were also normalized based on the variance and mean of the data images. Using these images, the suggested model was trained to segment the defect regions. The proposed method showed promising results in the segmentation of defects. We consider that the proposed method can facilitate decision-making about railroad maintenance, and potentially be applied for other analyses.
Electroencephalography (EEG) recordings taken during the perception of music tempo contain information that estimates the tempo of a music piece. If information about this tempo stimulus in EEG recordings can be extracted and classified, it can be effectively used to construct a music-based brain-computer interface. This study proposes a novel convolutional recurrent attention model (CRAM) to extract and classify features corresponding to tempo stimuli from EEG recordings of listeners who listened with concentration to the tempo of musics. The proposed CRAM is composed of six modules, namely, network inputs, two-dimensional convolutional bidirectional gated recurrent unit-based sample encoder, sample-level intuitive attention, segment encoder, segment-level intuitive attention, and softmax layer, to effectively model spatiotemporal features and improve the classification accuracy of tempo stimuli. To evaluate the proposed method's performance, we conducted experiments on two benchmark datasets. The proposed method achieves promising results, outperforming recent methods.

The 1,3-propane diol has been introduced as a co-monomer with ethylene glycol to polymerize the poly(ethylene/propylene naphthalate) in order to improve the dimensional stability of poly(ethylene naphthalate) for a possible flexible substrate material. Based on $^1H$-NMR results, it was found that poly (ethylene/propylene naphthalate) has been synthesised successfully. Introducing 1,3-propane diol resulted in the amorphous state in polyester as well as lowering of glass transition and thermal degradation temperature. Coexisting relatively longer propylene segment compared with ethylene in synthesized polyester caused less orientation behavior and reducing thermal expansion coefficient. This is a promising result for poly (ethylene/propylene naphthalate) to apply a flexible substrate.
Objective: To assess segmental liver stiffness (LS) with MRI before and after endovascular intervention in patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS). Materials and Methods: Twenty-three patients (13 males and 10 females; mean age, 42.6 ± 12.6 years; age range, 31-56 years) with BCS as a primary liver disease were recruited for this study. Two consecutive magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) examinations were performed before the endovascular treatment. Fifteen patients who underwent endovascular intervention treatment also had follow-up MRE scans within three days after the procedure. LS was measured in three liver segments: the right posterior, right anterior, and left medial segments. Inter-reader and inter-exam repeatability were analyzed with intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) and Bland-Altman analysis. Segmental LS and clinical characteristics before and after the intervention were also compared. Results: Within three days of the endovascular intervention, all three segmental LS values decreased: LS of the right posterior segment = 7.23 ± 0.88 kPa (before) vs. 4.94 ± 0.84 kPa (after), LS of the right anterior segment = 7.30 ± 1.06 kPa (before) vs. 4.77 ± 0.85 kPa (after), and LS of the left medial segment = 7.22 ± 0.87 kPa (before) vs. 4.87 ± 0.72 kPa (after) (all p = 0.001). There was a significant correlation between LS changes and venous pressure gradient changes before and after treatments (r = 0.651, p = 0.009). The clinical manifestations of all 15 patients significantly improved after therapy. The MRE repeatability was excellent, with insignificant variations (inter-reader, ICC = 0.839-0.943: inter-examination, ICC = 0.765-0.869). Bland-Altman analysis confirmed excellent agreement (limits of agreement, 13.4-19.4%). Conclusion: Segmental LS measured by MRE is a promising repeatable quantitative biomarker for monitoring the treatment response to minimally invasive endovascular intervention in patients with BCS.
The field of marketing research in the satellite communication services is still in the early stage of its development. Particularly, in Korean domestic satellite service market, many theoretical and methodological opportunities now exist. In this paper we develop a model, which identifies target markets and promising application services in Korean satellite communication service Market. One key contribution of this paper is a modeling approach to the assessment of market potential and priorities of the application services in each Korean industry. We define and estimate the degree of attractiveness for each segmented market which represents the market potential estimated by current usage of terrestrial services and each market segment's willingness to adopt satellite technology. Since all possible satellite application services are not equally important in the market, they should be differentiated in terms of the likelihood of success. We introduce another index prioritizing application services by tying together three important factors affecting Korean satellite service demand. Some marketing implications of model results are also discussed. Finally the findings of our model are compared with those of other similar studies.
