This paper focuses on a boundary surface based ray casting. In general the boundary surface based ray casting is processed in two stages. The first stage finds boundary surfaces and stores them into buffers. The second stage calculates a distance from a viewpoint to the voxels of the interested area by projecting boundary surfaces on the view plane, and then starts to traverse a volume data space with the distance. Our approach differs from the general boundary surface based ray casting in processing the first stage of it. Contrast to the typical boundary surface based ray casting where all boundary surfaces of volume data are stored into buffers, they are projected on the planes aligned to the axis of volume data coordinates and these projected data are stored into 6 buffers. Such maneuver shortens time for ray casting, and reduces memory usage because it can be carried out independently from the amount of the volume data.
This study classified the type of sole for female high school students and analyzed the characteristics of each type by the shape of the sole (plantar view) using 2D scan data. The data were collected from a foot anthropometry of 310 female high school students in Gwangju and Jeollanam-do. Left feet and right feet were measured indirectly by using flatbed scanner. The sole anthropometric measurements consisted of 24 items. The results of the investigation into the differences between left and right feet soles by the 2D measurements data indicated that there was no significant statistical differences in the length of items. The left sole had higher values than right sole in the width items and angle items; however, the lateral side of the right feet projected to the outside more often than left feet. In analyzing foot sole of female high school students, the shapes of sole were classified into three types. Type 1(41.94%), Type 2(36.77%), Type 3(21.29%). The most characteristic sole type for female high school students was Type 1. Type 1 referred to a narrow foot width with little or no curvature of the toe. Type 2 represented the longest foot, with foot width shown as a spacious and distinctive feature in width at the medial area of the foot. Type 3 represented the shortest and widest of ball width, gathered inside toe 5, and lateral side as the most projected among the three types.

When a disabled ship is being towed in a seaway, the resistance increase of the towed ship caused by both the external conditions such as wave and wind and the hull conditions such as drifting angle, should be accurately predicted. Most of the disabled ships cannot be towed in the front direction of hull, but they are usually towed in drifted direction with some drifting angle. In this sense, the resistance increase caused by the drifting angle is not an element to be ignored. In this paper, various methods for prediction of the resistance increase caused by the drifting angle are studied. In addition, new prediction methods such as front-lateral projected ratio method and empirical formula method by multiple regression analysis have been derived. The front-lateral projected area ratio method has been applied to a computer program for prediction of the towing condition, and this method has been approved to be a useful method in practical situations.

This paper presents a transformable track mechanism for wall climbing robots. The proposed mechanism allows a wall climbing robot to go over obstacles by transforming the track shape, and also increases contact area between track and wall surface for safe attachment. The track mechanism is realized using a timing belt track with one driving actuator. The inner frame of the track consists of serially connected 5R-joints and 1P-joint, and all joints of the inner frame are passively operated by springs, so the mechanism does not require any actuators and complex control algorithms to change its shape. Static analysis is carried out to determine design parameters which enable $90^{\circ}$ wall-to-wall transition and driving over projected obstacles on wall surfaces. A Prototype is manufactured using the transformable track on which polymer magnets are installed for adhesion force. The size of the prototype is $628mm{\times}200mm{\times}150mm$ ($Length{\times}Width{\times}Height$) and weight is 4kgf. Experiments are performed to verify its climbing capability focusing on $90^{\circ}$ wall to wall transition and driving over projected obstacle.
This study was carried out to settle the plugging problem which occurs frequently when agricultural wettable powder is used in pest control work using the crushing and the dispersing effects caused by irradiation of ultrasonic wave. Sonication was applied to the wettable powder suspension in a beaker for 30 seconds using a 28 kHz, 200 W PZT BLT, and the image of suspension before and after sonication was observed using a microscope and a SEM. The image of tow commercial wettable powder suspensions in water observed using an optics microscope showed that the agglomerated particles were irregularly distributed over the whole observed region when stirred mechanically, while showing more uniform distribution composed of comparatively single particles in the whole observed region after sonication. Concerning the above, the projected areas of particles in the four suspensions after sonication were decreased distinctively in the observed range of the microscope and the atomization of crystals was much developed. Over the measured range of 5.6∼4,157 ${\mu}$m particle size, the overall projected area of particles was decreased to 58.3∼89.6% on the average after sonication. When the SEM images of sonicated wettable powder suspensions dissolved in water and CH$_3$OH were compared to the suspensions before sonication, such phenomena as the atomization of particles, the expansion of voids between particles, the reduction and the decrease of agglomerated particle groups, and the progress of crack developments on the surface of flake-shaped particles were observed. It seemed possible that the plugging problem that occurs frequently in pest control machine when using wettable powder would be settled by the use of sonication.

The purpose of this study was to examine the level of anxiety about economic change in middle-aged and elderly people and to analyze the factors that influence this anxiety. The data, derived from Korean General Social Survey(KGSS) were collected from Survey Research Center of Sung Kyun Kwan University. The samples included 821 people over the age of 40, including 529 middle-aged people who were from 40 to 59, and elderly people who were over 60. Multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the research model. The findings from the analysis showed that age and subjective economic status had crucial effects on the entire group's anxiety about unemployment and poverty, housing prices, financial markets, and economic recession in the older life. For the middle-aged group, age in particular had crucial effects on all the components of its anxiety about economic change. For the elderly group, geographical region was the most critical factor that affected its anxiety about economic change, the elderly people who were living in metropolitan area and towns had more anxiety than those who were living in rural areas. In particular, region was the only factor that affected the elderly group's anxiety about financial markets, and economic recession. These results showed that specific age of middle-aged and elderly people had the crucial effects while their sex, educational level, and the employment status of their spouse had no effects on their anxiety about economic change. Objective economic indices such as their earned-income and other income including savings and pensions had no effects on their anxiety level. While as noted above subjective economic indices such as their standard of living compared with their parents, projected economic status, and level of socio-economic success had an effect on anxiety about economic change.
The Korean Population Control Program has been implementing under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs through an existing network of health centers. This arrangement was successful in bringing population growth down to targeted level by the end of the Fourth Five Year Economic Planning, 1981. It is expected, however, that future goal will be harder to reach due to difficulty of reducing traditional family size norms further and to the projected increasing the number of eligible couples as the past Korean war baby boom generation enters the reproductive activity in the next few years. The recognition of the need for modification of population policy is increasing. The 1980 census shows that the total number of population reached approximately 38.5 million with 1.57 per cent of the growth rate. It was projected that the size of Korean Population will reach around 42 million and 51 million in 1986 and 2000 respectively. Furthermore, there is some argument as to whether decline in the birth rate in Korea is too slow to meet government target. Hence, a new development of population policy and greatly increased amount of effort will be needed in order to achieve Zero Population Growth Rate before the year 2050. The development of future national population policy and its related area are recommended as follow: 1. It is highly recommended that the population planning law governing both vital events of birth and death and population migration should be legislated. 2. The National Population Policy Council, Chaired by Deputy Prime Minister should be activated to implement and coordinate population program within ministries. 3. Responsible organization of population and family planning program should be established as a Bureau unit at central government level. 4. For the improvement of national vital registration, an existing system should be studied and developed.

The research presented here represents a collaborative effort with the SFWMD on developing scenarios for future climate for the SFWMD area. The project focuses on developing methodology for simulating precipitation representing both natural quasi-oscillatory modes of variability in these climate variables and also the secular trends projected by the IPCC scenarios that are publicly available. This study specifically provides the results for precipitation modeling. The starting point for the modeling was the work of Tebaldi et al that is considered one of the benchmarks for bias correction and model combination in this context. This model was extended in the framework of a Hierarchical Bayesian Model (HBM) to formally and simultaneously consider biases between the models and observations over the historical period and trends in the observations and models out to the end of the 21st century in line with the different ensemble model simulations from the IPCC scenarios. The low frequency variability is modeled using the previously developed Wavelet Autoregressive Model (WARM), with a correction to preserve the variance associated with the full series from the HBM projections. The assumption here is that there is no useful information in the IPCC models as to the change in the low frequency variability of the regional, seasonal precipitation. This assumption is based on a preliminary analysis of these models historical and future output. Thus, preserving the low frequency structure from the historical series into the future emerges as a pragmatic goal. We find that there are significant biases between the observations and the base case scenarios for precipitation. The biases vary across models, and are shrunk using posterior maximum likelihood to allow some models to depart from the central tendency while allowing others to cluster and reduce biases by averaging. The projected changes in the future precipitation are small compared to the bias between model base run and observations and also relative to the inter-annual and decadal variability in the precipitation.

Conventional Augmented Reality has used data gloves or markers for smooth interaction between objects and background. This causes inconvenience of use and lower immersion. To build up immersion in Augmented Reality, additional input devices must be removed. This paper proposes a method to create virtual space coordinates for interaction without wearing additional input devices so as to improve immersion in Augmented Reality. The acquired image was projected to a two-dimensional space and vanishing lines were extracted to calculate the virtual space coordinates. Then the sizes of the inserted objects were varied in accordance with the size of the virtual coordinates area based on the image projected onto the two-dimensional coordinates. This resulted in improved immersion. This method can increase the efficiency of object creation by excluding the use of a 3D modeler for creation of three-dimensional objects.

Dynamic infrared thermography (DIRT) has been used for the preoperative mapping of cutaneous perforators. This technique has shown a positive correlation with intraoperative findings. Our aim was to evaluate the accuracy of perforator mapping with DIRT and augmented reality using a portable projector. For this purpose, three volunteers had both of their anterolateral thighs assessed for the presence and location of cutaneous perforators using DIRT. The obtained image of these "hotspots" was projected back onto the thigh and the presence of Doppler signals within a 10-cm diameter from the midpoint between the lateral patella and the anterior superior iliac spine was assessed using a handheld Doppler device. Hotspots were identified in all six anterolateral thighs and were successfully projected onto the skin. The median number of perforators identified within the area of interest was 5 (range, 3-8) and the median time needed to identify them was 3.5 minutes (range, 3.3-4.0 minutes). Every hotspot was correlated to a Doppler sound signal. In conclusion, augmented reality can be a reliable method for transferring the location of perforators identified by DIRT onto the thigh, facilitating its assessment and yielding a reliable map of potential perforators for flap raising.
