3-D elastoplastic finite element analysis of umbrella arch reinforcement system for tunnelling

  • In this paper, a mathematical framework based on a homogenisation technique to simulate 'umbrella arch reinforcement system' (UARS) and its implementation into a 3D Finite Element program that can consider stage construction situations are presented. The constitutive model developed allows considering the main design parameters of the problem and only requires geometrical and mechanical properties of the constituents. Additionally, the use of a homogenisation approach implies that the generation of the Finite Element mesh can be easily produced and that re-meshing is not required as basic geometrical parameters such as the orientation of the pipes are changed. The model developed is used to simulate tunnelling with the UARS. From the analyses, the effects of the main design parameters on the elastic and the elastoplastic analyses are considered.

A Comparative Study to Evaluate a Simple Method for the Management of Postoperative Bleeding Following Palatoplasty

  • Bleeding, is one of the most common postoperative complications after palatoplasty in patients with cleft palate. The purpose of this article is to present our experience using a Foley catheter balloon for perioperative palatoplasty bleeding management. A retrospective data analysis was performed for all cases of palatoplasty performed by the author from 1999 to 2012 that experienced postoperative hemorrhage. These patients were managed by utilizing posterior nasal compression with a Foley catheter balloon for the period 2006 to 2012. We have compared two methods (we use before 2006 the reoperative method) with regards to the later development of palatal fistulae and cases with reoperative hemostasis. The study found no statistically significant differences between the conventional and proposed method in relation to the development of palatal fistulae (P=0.7). These findings suggest that nasal packing using a Foley balloon is a safe and effective method for postoperative bleeding control after palatoplasty in patients with cleft palate.

  • As expensive and valuable metals being used in electronic and semiconducting industries are abandoned as industrial wastes after use of them, it is required to recover them from e-wasted electronics parts. Gold which is used for printed circuit boards or electronic equipments, accessories, etc., is one of e-Wasted materials and recently indium, gallium, zirconium, cobalt, molybdenum and lithium are bacome valuable metals to be recovered from the e-wastes. Since the amount of precious metals is now being faced with scarcity, lean too much on area and instability of supply, and industrial demands are rapidly increasing every year, it becomes more important to recover the valuable metals from the industrial wastes. In this review, we introduced technologies and research trend of the recovery processes of valuable metals from the e-wastes in high-tech devices over the world.

뉴로모픽 시스템을 위한 간단한 SPICE 멤리스터 모델 (Simple SPICE memristor model for neuromorphic system)

  • A simple memristor model is proposed for the neuromorphic system in the Simulation Program for Integrated Circuits Emphasis (SPICE). The memristive I-V characteristics with different voltage and frequencies were analyzed. And with the model, we configured a learning and inference system with 4 by 4 memristor array to show the practical use of the model. We examined the applicability by configuring the simplest neuromorphic circuit. The total simulation time for the proposed model was 18% lesser than that for the one-memristor model. When compared with more memristor models in a circuit, the time became even shorter.

PV 일체형 차세대 스마트 윈도우 기술개발 동향 (Technology Development Trends of Self-Powered Next Generation Smart Windows)

  • Among several types of energy saving smart window technologies, the leader, the dynamic EC (electrochromic) window one needs integrated PV (photovoltaics), to minimize expensive electrical wiring as well as to obviate the need for external energy. Self-powered smart windows were reviewed according to PV types used. DSSCs (dye sensitized solar cells) were found to be compatible with EC cells, to have several categories of next generation smart windows such as PECCs (photoelectrochromic cells), PVCCs (photovoltachromic cells), EC polymer PECCs. In addition silicon solar cells and third generation solar cells were investigated. They are summarized in a table showing their advantages and disadvantages respectively for a fast comparison. The strategy to expedite the commercialization of these next generation smart windows includes developing retrofit smart window coverings for use on flexible polymer substrates adhered to the inside surface of a window and easily replaced after use for upto 10 years.

의약분업 전.후 3차 진료기관 외래이용 변화 (The Change in the Outpatient Visit to Tertiary care Hospital after the Implementation of the Separation of Prescription and Drug Dispensing Policy)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out if there has been any change in the outpatient visit to tertiary care hospitals after the introduction of the new healthcare program that divides the roles of doctors and pharmacists and the reason for the change if there is any. Two tertiary care hospitals with the largest capacity of 1200 beds and two tertiary care hospitals with the lowest capacity of 600-700 beds were randomly selected. Data of the outpatient visits from March-May 2(xx), before the new healthcare system was adopted, were compared with the data from March-May 2001, after the new policy was adopted. Outpatient visits have decreased 5.8% after the new system. There has been a dramatic decrease, especially, in the department of OB-GYN and Pediatrics of tertiary hospitals. Decrease in re-visits is much higher than the first visits. Female patients decreased more than the male patients. Outpatient visits by economically active patients group aged 25-44 declined much. Tertiary hospitals in Seoul and Kyonggi Province, as well. Outpatient income of tertiary hospitals has dropped up to 14.7% due to the decline in outpatient visits and pharmaceutical income, and resell price system which in turn has caused the hospital financial deficits. While the new program has succeeded in lowering the use of antibiotics and injections, it has the pitfall of prescribing long days and expensive drugs. A full-fledged review of the system should be conducted for the establishment of the new system and I believe this study may be a useful references. Furthermore, more profound and overall studies on the chance in the patients use of hospitals are needed.

  • 본 본문은 발사체용 액체 추진제에 대하여 과거, 현재 미래의 추세에 대하여 초점을 맞추어 조사하였다. 일반적으로 저장성, 하이퍼골릭 추진제는 군사용으로 사용되고, 케로신 계열과 극저온 추진제가 발사체용으로 사용되는 추세이다. 액체 추진기관은 성숙된 기술로 볼 수 있지만, 우주 탐험에 대한 새로운 관심은 새로운 엔진의 개발과 함께, 좀 더 많은 설계 마진, 그리고 다양한 추력과 수명 요구와 관련하여 사용과 생산에 간편한 방향으로 나아가고 있다.

  • 본 논문에서는 투사성의 원칙을 이용해 결정적 한국어 의존 구문분석을 보완하는 방법을 제안한다. 우리는 결정적 의존 구문분석에 투사성의 원칙을 이용하여 의존 구문분석의 오류를 찾아내고 투사성의 원칙을 만족하도록 수정하여 오류를 개선하였다. 제안하는 모델은 기존의 결정적 의존 구문분석에 비해 높은 정확률을 제공하고 결정적 의존 구문분석의 장점을 유지할 수 있다. 또한 우리는 중간 분석결과를 이용한 자질모델을 제안하였다. 우리는 실험을 통하여 제안한 의존 구문분석 모델이 기존의 의존 구문분석 모델들에 비해 성능이 향상됨을 보였다.
