Level of perception related to changes in lower facial height (하안면 고경 변화의 인지도에 관한 연구)

  • Understanding the level of a person's perception of changes that have occurred on the face after orthodontic treatment is critical to the process of orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of perception of profile and frontal changes in lower facial height. Forty students attending art school participated in a study evaluating the level of a participant's perception of changes in the lower facial height. Participants compared computer-graphic frontal and profile photographs with balanced proportions and photograph simulations of 1, 2, 3, and 4mm changes in lower facial height from stomion to the chin. At least a 2 mm change in lower facial height for the profile view and 3mm in the frontal view was needed to be perceived after orthodontic treatment. The level of a person's perception of the change in lower facial height was more sensitive in the profile view than in the frontal view, and information about facial changes given prior to evaluation enhanced the level of perception.

THE PREDICTION OF POSTSURGICAL SOFT-TISSUE PROFILE CHANCES ASSOCIATED WITH SURGICAL CORRECTION OF THE PROGNATHIC MANDIBLE BY STANDARDIZED FACIAL PHOTOSURGERY (하악전돌증 환자의 실물 측모사진을 이용한 악교정 수술후 연조직변화 예측에 관한 연구)

  • This study was designed to test the possibility of using a standardized lateral facial photographs as a clinical tool which produce the prediction of postsurgical soft-tissue profile changes associated with surgical correction in skeletal CIII patients. The number of the patients involved in this study were 27 in total, including 11 male patients and 16 female patients. A practical method to the utilization of presurgical photo prediction for mandibular prognathic patients has been presented. To predict postoperative facial appearance, montage photographs were superimposed on standard facial reference photos taken preoperatively. Within the limitations of its technology, postoperative predictions generated by this method were of sufficient accuracy, especially mandible and chin area, for clinical use. In addition, they provide valuable communication and diagnostic information which may be used in formulating treatment plan in cases requiring corrective orthognathic surgery. But, the lip changes were somewhat exaggerated by photo prediction. Consequently, the photo prediction seems suitable for planning profile changes in orthognathic surgery that include mobilization of one main mandibular fragment. Futher investigations are needed to determine whether changes of soft-tissues and hard-tissues are sufficiently reproducible so that more meaningful predictive values can be established.

  • This work was undertaken to evaluate the integumental response in lower face to hard tissue changes, and to grope the prediction equation for expected integumental profile changes. Cephalometric headplates of 25 persons consisted of 8 Angle's class 1 maxillary protrusive and 17 Angle's class II division 1 patients whose mean age was 15.2 years were traced, diagramatized, and statistically analyzed. The results were as follows; 1. Upper incisor and lips were retracted and convexity of integumental profile decreased concurrently with decrease of hard tissue procumbency, however soft tissue point A', B', and Pog' did not undergo significant changes after orthodontic treatment. 2. Remarkable increment of upper lip thickness and upper lip height was shown and this was related to upper incisor retraction. The ratio between the amount of upper incisor retraction and the increment o f upper lip thickness was approximately 1.16:1. 3. Moderate correlation of upper lip retraction to upper incisor retraction, and of lower lip retraction to lower incisor movement were arranged, and yet comparatively wide variability from subject to subject was shown. 4. It was possible to predict statistically for horizontal alteration of lip position and change of upper lip angulation ground in orthodontic treatment.

  • The soft tissue covering of the face plays an important role in facial esthetics, speech and other physiologic functions. Thus, it is recognised by all clinical orthodontists that success of orthodontic treatment is closely related to the changes in soft tissues of the face. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the changes of bony and soft tissues in prepost treatment of Angle's Class III malocclusion. The sample consisted of 18 males and 37 females, pretreatment age of 9 years to 11 years. For this study 11 landmarks were plotted, 14 linear length, 4 soft tissue thickness and 2 angles were measured. The obtained results were as follows; 1. In the linear measurements of bony and soft tissue changes, A, Is, Ss, Ls and Li were located more anteriorly in both sexes. However Si and B showed more remarkable anterior movement in female. 2. In the comparison of the changes of the soft tissue thickness, Ss and Li in male subjects and Ss in female subjects increased. 3. In the degree of correlation between changes in the soft tissue profile and changes in the skeletal profile, Is: Ls, Il: Li and B: Si in both sexes had significant correlations. However A:Ss had remarkable significant correlation in female. 4. There were significant correlations between change in ${\angle}A$ and change in ${\angle}B$ in all sexes. 5. There were little correlation between changes in distance difference of Is and Ii and Change in distance difference of Ls and Li in all sexes.

A STUDY ON CHANGE OF THE SOFT TISSUE FACIAL PROFILE AFTER ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERY IN PATIENTS WITH THE MANDIBULAR PROGNATHISM (하악전돌증 환자의 악교정 수술후 시간경과에 따른 안모 연조직 변화에 관한 연구)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the change of the soft tissue facial profile after mandibular set back surgery during time intervals. For this study, 33 patient, 8 males and 25 females, were selected and their lateral cephalograms were taken and analyzed periodically. Hard and soft tissue changes during postoperative time intervals, correlation between surgical skeletal changes and postoperative soft tissue changes, and prediction for long-term soft tissue changes were established through varying statistical methods. The results were as follow : 1. There were meaningful changes of anteroposterior skeletal position at 6 months and 2 years after mandibular set back by mandibular ramus osteotomy. Two years postoperatively, there was 30%, 32%, 29% relapse on B point, pogonion, menton each. 2. Two years after the mandibular ramus osteotomy, the relative changes of the soft tissue to their osseous counterparts showed 76% on the lower lip and 91% on the pogonion. 3. The movements of the mandibular landmarks in correlation to anteroposterior position of the lower lip and soft tissue of the chin showed to be effective on a long-term basis. 4. Using surgical changes of pogonion, prediction of changes in soft and hard tissue pogonion was useful and the coefficient of determination was 0.46 each and their reliability decreased 2 years postoperatively. 5. The upper lip position after the mandibular set back surgery was somewhat anterior 2 years postoperatively, but that has no statistical meanings.

  • This paper is concerned with the ATO speed profile generation method in the moving block system. The ATO speed profile is calculated using the acceleration limit and the jerk limit to improve ride comfort. In addition, the speed limit and stop distance provided from ATP profile should be considered to ensure safety. In the moving block system, the speed limit and the stop position are frequently changed in real-time. Therefore, the ATO speed profile should be regenerated immediately according to change of the speed limit and the stop position, within the acceleration limit and the jerk limit. In this paper, the ATO speed profile generation method is proposed, which considers not only frequent changes of the speed limit and the stop position but also acceleration limit and jerk limit. Futhermore the simulation result is presented to verify usefulness of this method.

Analysis of the Effects of Bore Clearance Due to Skirt Profile Changes on the Piston Secondary Movements

  • Clearance movements of engine piston are very related to the piston impact to the engine block as well as many tribological problems. Some of the major parameters that influence these kinds of performances are piston profiles, piston offsets and clearance magnitudes. In our study, computational investigation is performed about the piston movements in the clearance between piston and cylinder liner by changing the skirt profiles and piston offsets. Our results show that curved profile and more offset magnitude to thrust side have better performance that has low side impact during the engine cycle.

Mechanical characteristics of involute-circular arc composite tooth profile (인벌류우트-圓弧 合成齒形의 諸特性)

  • In this study, full-rounded tip curve of rack and its mating fillet curve of pinion in Involute-circular arc composite tooth profile are derived. Mechanical characteristics are calculated analytically, i.e., Specific sliding, Nominal bending stress at working root circle and the Contact factor of the arc of contact in circular arc part to the arc of double contact. These characteristics compared with standard involute tooth profile are improved in circular arc part of composite tooth profile. To obtain more efficient composite tooth profile, we studied these characteristics with regard to the changes of unwound angle and radius of circualr arc. And a design method of composite tooth profile is suggested. Composite tooth profile are compared with standard involute tooth profile.

  • This study was carried out in order to find out the soft tissue profile changes associated with maxillary incisor retraction in Angle's class I malocclusion patients. For this study fifty two female adult patients (Maximum Retraction Group 23, Minimum Retraction Group 29) who received orthodontic treatment were chosen. Following conclusions were obtained by analysing the changes of soft tissue and hard tissue before and after treatment. 1. When considering the mean changes of soft tissue and hard tissue, UP, LIP, Ls, Li (p<0.001), Point B, Si (p<0.01), Point A, Ss (p<0.05) were significant posterior movement in Maximum Retraction Group and UIP (p<0.001), LIP, Ls, Li (p<0.01), Point B, Si (p<0.05) were significant posterior movement in Minimum Retraction Group. 2. When considering the correlations between hard tissue and soft tissue changes, greater correlations were found in Minimum Retraction Group between UIP and Ls (p<0.01), Point A and Ss, UIP and Li, Point B and Si (p<0.05) than Minimum Retraction Group. 3. Correlations (p<0.01) were found between upper incisor retraction and posterior movement of the upper and lower lip in Thin Lip-Thickness Group, whereas no significant correlations were found in Thick Lip-Thickness Group. 4. Mean changes of the soft tissue thickness subsequent to incisor retraction were increased (p<0.01) in upper lip (Ls-Ls'), whereas no changes were found in lower lip.
