  • This study developed and applied a maker education program for an elementary school's science unit on 'Animal Life'. It examined the program's impact on students' academic achievement and creative problem-solving ability. The theme of the maker education program was 'creating a robot virtual reality (VR) exhibition hall mimicking animal characteristics'. It explored scientific concepts and creatively created a robot VR exhibition hall in accordance with the TMI maker education model. Findings revealed that the program significantly improved students' academic achievement and creative problem-solving ability (p<.05). This study provides evidence for the effectiveness of maker education in elementary school science classes and suggests that using maker education can increase students' interest in and engagement with science learning. To implement maker education more actively in elementary school science classes, stakeholders should develop various topics and programs. Additional research investigating the effectiveness of maker education in different age groups and various other areas of elementary science education is required to generalize the results of this study. Moreover, educational and teacher capacity building is required for educators to utilize maker education effectively.

  • An investigation was conducted to know a prospect of woody toy in Korea for physical, psychological and intellectual development. It was told that toys that stimulate cognitive development are appropriate for the child's capabilities, responsive to the child's movements, provide feedback when manipulated, and require imagination or fantasy. Toys particularly useful in the development of these abilities include dolls, figures, cuddly toys, puppets, costumes, and construction toys. Therefore, a toy is a wonderful object, indispensable to physical, psychological and intellectual development, both for those who have the capacity to integrate into society and for those who encounter difficulties. If we can replace a plastic toys by a environmental wooden toys, we can contribute to child development that is especially to promote creativity, artistic, problem-solving, language and social skills. In addition, we can support the ability of wood toy manufacturers to market their products in a responsible way and contribute to strengthen the competitiveness of our commodities on international markets.

  • This paper presents an optimal operation of microgrid systems and considering a tie-lines capacities that concerned each grid. The microgrid system consists of a wind turbine, a diesel generator, and a fuel cell. An one day load profile and wind resource for wind turbine generator were used for the study. For the grid interconnection, tie-line capacities were applied as constraints. The capacity constraints of tie-lines in production cost analysis are very important issues in the operation and planning of microgrid. In optimization, the Harmony Search (HS) algorithm is used for solving the problem of microgrid system operation which a various generation resources are available to meet the customer load demand with minimum operating cost. The application of HS algorithm to optimal operation of microgrid proves its effectiveness to determine optimally the generating resources without any differences of load mismatch.

  • Given a fixed production process and facility capacity, the ability to respond to market fluctuations in terms of changes in production, work force, and inventory is the major task of production management. The costs involved are primarily payroll (regular and overtime), inventory carrying, and hiring and firing. The magnitude of these costs is usually a significant portion of the operating costs of the firm and consequently a small percentage saving due to astute aggregate scheduling can mean substantial absolute saving. At least three demonstrably optimal techniques have been developed for solving this aggregate scheduling problem. These three optimal are apparently LDR, PPP, and SDR. By combining these three different approaches, another optimal solution was obtained by me. I call this CDR (Combined Decision Rule). This approach appears to be useful. This approach may be generalizable to aggregate scheduling involving a short term resources.

  • Companies that produce capital goods need to schedule the production of products that have complex product structures with components that require many operations on different machines. A feasible schedule must satisfy operation and assembly precedence constraints. It is also important to avoid deadlock situations. In this paper a Genetic Algorithm (GA) has been developed that includes a new repair process that rectifies infeasible schedules that are produced during the evolution process. The algorithm was designed to minimise the combination of earliness and tardiness penalties and took into account finite capacity constraints. Three different sized problems were obtained from a collaborating capital goods company. A design of experimental approach was used to systematically identify that the best genetic operators and GA parameters for each size of problem.

  • Is the social web environment in which production, distribution and consumption of information occurs from users an environment where manifestation of collective intelligence is easily made? Or is the social web environment a condition that incites people to depend on the groupthink due to biased information? It is important to conduct empirical studies on the possibility of social media as a tool of collective intelligence under the situation where conflicting opinions prevail. However, most of the existing studies related to this were limited to an exploratory research rather than an empirical research. In this regard, this study attempted to examine if the social media can perform a part as a platform of the collective intelligence empirically. Based on the experimental results, it can be safely said that the communication methods of social media showed its usefulness in both 'intellectual capacity of the group' and 'problem-solving skill of the group.'

  • Two hard sub-problems have emerged relating to the use of mobile agents for service management tasks. First, what is their impact on security, and second, how can they receive a flexible capacity to adapt to an open range of different environments on demand, without introducing trio stringent prior assumptions. In this paper, we present work towards solving the second problem, which is of particular interest to management software, because it typically needs to excert fine-grained and therefore particular resource control. We suggest a mechanism that reassembles mobile agents from smaller sub-components during arrival at each hop. The process incorporates patterns of unmutable and mutable sub-components, and is informed by the conditions of each local environment. We discuss different kinds of software adaptation and draw a distinction between static and continuous forms. Our software prototype for dynamic adaptation provides a concept far exchanging environment-dependent implementations of mobile agents during runtime. Dynamic adaptation enhances efficiency of mobile code in terms of bandwidth usage and scalability.

  • The major problems of chemical fertilizer supply and consumption involved in price policies since the end of World War II in Korea and their solutions were extensively discussed. The period was divided into three sub-periods: 1946-1960, 1961-1967 and 1968 to present. Since 1968 when the operations of three large-scaled fertilizer plants: Yongnam Chemical Co., Chinhae Chemical Co. and Hankuk Fertilizer Co. were begun in full scale, the domestic supply of nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers were almost enough for the domestic demand. However, since 1976, when Namhae Chemical Co. was added to the production capacity, the fertilizer industry has been faced with the overproduction problem of nitrogen, and the high production cost due to high petroleum price, which gave financial difficulties. Several policy directions and alternative measures for solving the current problems were also suggested in this presentation.

  • The generators of a small size below 100Kw are often used as power suppliers for emergency only in most domestic telecommunication companies. Serious twisted waves occur due to the inflow of harmonies from the generator into a S-type rectifier. And the increasing by stages of load upon the rectifier end up a stoppage of power supply during the serious hunting, which makes it difficult to supply power securely on the other part as well as that of communications. In case of long time of power failure the generators of a small size will be essential because the battery for emergency has a limit in capacity. Therefore it is necessary to solve the problems concerning the generators. This study is focused on the identifying and solving the problem including use of SCR elements connected to the generators.

  • This paper presents the scheme for load model based dispersed generation system (DGs) installation and operation in unbalanced distribution systems. Groups of each individual load model consist of residential, industrial, commercial, official and agricultural load. The main idea of solving fuzzy nonlinear goal programming is to transform the original objective function and constraints into the equivalent multiple objective functions with fuzzy sets to evaluate their imprecise nature for the criterion of power loss minimization, the number or total capacity of DGs and the bus voltage deviation, and then solve the problem using genetic algorithms. The method proposed was applied to IEEE 13 bus test systems to demonstrate its effectiveness.
