  • This study is a preliminary work in examining how to manage resources for collaboratively interactive help systems. The purpose of this article is to describe significant patterns of behaviors and cognitive state in collaborative problem-solving situation, and further to explore the relationship between the behavior and the perception of service evaluation. Based on the concept of 'cognitive motion' in Dervin's Sense-Making theory, this study conducted a time-line interview. The sample of this study consists of 22 IT personnel helping other person solve IT problems and 36 users being helped for a IT problem-solving. This study presents a model of collaborative problem-solving behaviors and discusses some implications for designing help systems which collaborative interactions can happen.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the optimal gas turbine system for special purpose ships. First we generate critical evaluation criteria an construct their hierarchical structure. The criteria consist of qualitative ones as well as the economic factor. Then AHP is applied to solve the decision making problem AHP gibes good results different from those only by the economic evaluation methods. And during the analysis, the procedure produces many useful informations to the decision making. The results shows that AHP is an appropriate method for these kinds of problems such as the system selection.

  • The purpose of this study is to consider the criteria for decision-making of facility location in view of Minimax. As an illustration of the location of storerooms in a manufacturing plant that minimizes the maximum distance workers must travel to reach a storeroom, the number and variety of location problems that can be formulated appropriately as minimax problems are sizable. A minimax solution can be interpreted as a grease the squeaky wheel solution In solving a minimax location problem, costs other than the maximum cost are not considered.

  • The Safety Assessment for Construction works is used in order to make the safety plans to protect calamities in construction sites. However in Korea it is problem that the Safety Assessment has strict and meaningless contents. So it is not used well. This study suggests the effectual making methods of the Safety Assessment to solve the problems which are found through investing serious calamities and interviewing experts.

  • Fuzzy set theory has been extensively researched in various fields of engineering. In nuclear science, a significant influence of fuzzy sets can be noticed. However, applications of fuzzy set theory to nuclear engineering is novel. In this paper, we start with a basic statement of the decision-making process based on fuzzy set theory, and then apply it to nuclear science with some practical applications (a fuzzy decision making in an accidental release to the atmosphere as well as in a problem of land suitability classification). We believe that the use of fuzzy set theory in nuclear science has potential advantages.

  • The purpose of the study is to find development of contact area, contact pressure and friction forces occurring at joints or connection areas inbetween structural members or mechanical parts. The problem has a pair of difficulties intrinsically; a constraint of displacement due to contact, and presence of work term by nonconservative friction force in the variational principle of the problem. Because of these difficulties, the variational principle remains in the form of inequality. It is resolved by penalty method and perturbation method making the inequality to an equality which is proper for computational purposes. A contact problem without friction is solved to find contact area and contact pressure, which are to be used as data for the analysis of the friction problem using perturbed variational principle. For numerical experiments, a Hertz problem, a rigid punch problem, and the latter one with friction effects are solved using $Q_2$-finite elements.

  • This thesis presents railroad crew restoring problem, which is to determine the railroad plan allocation. This problem is constructed that determine the sequence of duties that railroad crews have to perform. We analyze characteristic of this problem and railroad industry. It's hard to consider many constraint conditions. We propose Integer Programming model and easy methodology to be considered all given operation rules. This problem is known to be NP-hard. We develop a genetic algorithm, which is proved to be powerful in solving optimization problems. We proposed the effective mathematical model and algorithm about making crew restoring in real industry.

  • In order to reduce the cost of product and save the processing time, optimal nesting of two-dimensional part is an important application in number of industries like shipbuilding and garment making. There have been many studies on finding the optimal solution of two-dimensional nesting. The problem of two-dimensional nesting has a non-deterministic characteristic and there have been various attempts to solve the problem by reducing the size of problem rather than solving the problem as a whole. Heuristic method and linearlization are often used to find an optimal solution of the problem. In this paper, theoretical and practical nesting algorithm for rectangular, circular and irregular shape of two-dimensional parts is proposed. Both No-Fit-Polygon and Minkowski-Sum are used for solving the overlapping problem of two parts and the dynamic programming technique is used for reducing the number search spae in order to find an optimal solution. Also, nesting designer's expertise is complied into the proposed algorithm to supplement the heuristic method.

  • This paper focuses on production planning and scheduling problems in an assembly system operating on a make-to-order basis. Due dates are considered as constraints in the problems, that is, tardiness is not allowed. Since the planning problem is a higher-level decision making than the scheduling problem, the scheduling problem is solved using a production plan obtained by solving the planning problem. We suggest heuristic procedures in which aggregated information is used when the production planning problem is solved while more detailed information is used when the scheduling problem is solved. Since a feasible schedule may not be obtained from a production plan, an iterative approach is employed in the two procedures to obtain a solution that is feasible for both the production planning and scheduling problems. Computational tests on randomly generated test problems are done to show the performance of these algorithms, and results are reported.

  • The Butterfly model, which aims to solve contradiction problems, defines the type of contradiction for given problems and finds the problem-solving objectives and their strategies. Unlike the ARIZ algorithm in TRIZ, the Butterfly model is based on logical proposition, which helps to reduce trial and errors and quickly narrows the problem space for solutions. However, it is hard for problem solvers to define the right propositional relations in the previous Butterfly algorithm. In this research, we propose a contradiction solving algorithm which determines the right problem-solving strategy just with yes or no simple questions. Also, we implement the Butterfly Chatbot based on the proposed algorithm that provides visual and auditory information at the same time and help people solve the contradiction problems. The Butterfly Chatbot can solve contradictions effectively in a short period of time by eliminating arbitrary alternative choices and reducing the problem space.
