  • This study examines factors that influence delinquency among adolescents under probation using indigenous psychological analysis, focusing specifically on parent-child relationship. A total 268 adolescents under probation and their parents and 251 high school students and their parents participated in the two studies. In the first study, qualitative results indicate that both groups of adolescents were most likely to trust their parents than any other person and reason for their trust is reported to be based on blood relationship. Similarly, majority of parents of both groups reported trusting their children because of the blood relationship. Parents hope that their children will be sincere a person and will be able to maintain harmonious social relationship. Parents of adolescents under probation were more likely to report disobedience as being most problematic, whereas parents of high school students were more likely report providing social and financial support for their children's education as being the most difficult. In the second study, structured questionnaires were administered to the four groups and the following set of results were obtained. First, in terms of family background, the socio-economic status of adolescents under probation was lower, they are less likely to live with both parents or natural parents, and more likely to have ran away from home than high school students. Second, adolescents under probation are less likely to trust their parents and more likely to view their parents as being hostile. Third, parents of adolescents under probation were less likely to trust their children, more likely to view their relationship as being conflictual and hostile, and feel that they had to sacrifice for their children when compared with parents of high school students. Implications of these results for parent-child relationship and delinquency are discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the predictors of academic probation in college. Especially, this study focused on student engagement variables among the predictors of academic probation in college. Student engagement variables include hours of absence from class and numbers of log to LMS(Learning Management System) and in extracurricular program system during four weeks after the opening of a course and the numbers of faculty counseling. GPA(grade Point Average) is a dependent variable and GPA of prior semester is a control variable in this study. 17,261 student data were collected for the study. Linear regression model and logistic regression model analyses were conducted in the study. The finding showed that the hours of absence from class and numbers of log in extracurricular program system during four weeks after the opening of a course predicted academic achievement of college students. The result also indicated that hours of absence from class and numbers of log-ins to LMS(Learning Management System) and in extracurricular program system during four weeks after the opening of a course were the predictors of academic probation in college. This study will contribute to investigate indicators of students with low academic performance and to provide proper support for underachievers.

The major contents of the program include to enhance cognitive and behavioral coping skills, to identify and expand supportive social networks, and to deal with women-related issues. The program was operated 3 times with 24 female clients in a probation office in Seoul from August 2003 to October 2004. The program changed the participants' attitudes toward substance use and improved their drug-refusal skills. This study mentions that the findings may be useful for practitioners as well as researchers because this study was first one that dealt with a women-only group in Korea. Finally, this study suggests that more studies be conducted in order to provide better understandings on substance abusing women and more effective interventions skills.

  • The purpose of the paper is to offer an analysis of adult probationers and their recidivism and to suggest a policy to prevent recidivism. Various data analysis methods like frequency analysis, cross-tabulation analysis, regression analysis and logistic regression analysis were used to determine which of a second offense factors and recidivism included in initial data investigation could effectively explain or forecast reference values. This study focused on identifying relations associated with follow-up misconducts of adults under probation, and supposing that those factors could be associated with their second offenses. But it failed to yield so much significant findings. Nevertheless, this study has its own significance in a sense that it explored various risk factors and desires of adults under probation according to empirical data, and suggested formulated measures useful in practice to select and categorize appropriate treatments.

As a result, it was discovered that the career group counselling program had statistically significant differences in reality and preparedness among the sub-areas of career attitude maturity while there were no significant differences in determinacy. Also, the career group counselling program had statistically significant differences in goal selection, job information and future plans among the sub-area of career decision self-efficacy while there were no significant differences in problem solution. These results suggest that the career group counselling program had significant effects on career attitude maturity and career decision self-efficacy. For better career attitude maturity and career decision self-efficacy in adolescents under probation, more organized studies on career group counselling programs are needed and their usability should be reinforced.

As a result of the study, it was discovered that after the self-growth program, there was a statistically significant difference in interest in others(altruism) and their social devotion while there was no significant difference in the interest in self and social issues. Also, there was a statistically significant difference in future-orientation, confidence, a sense of responsibility, having a mind to face challenges, and task orientation while there was not a significant difference in having an adventurous mind. • Driving after drinking is highly likely to cause accidents due to lack of responsibility and poor judgment. South Korea is seeking a sentence for accidental drinking accidents. The suspended jail term for drunk drivers accounts for more than 70 percent of the total. However, those who come to the probation office during the probation period are involuntary, subject to little motivation for change, and the large-scale, collective, and short-term education offered to them is limited in preventing re-off. In addition to small group and long-term education, we conducted intensive short-term interventions to see changes in drinking habits in three months. In the long run, the effectiveness of drinking control will be demonsstrated, making a difference in improving the programs offered to drunk drivers in the future. Drunk driving accouts for a very high percentage of the causes of traffic accidents, which, like many countries around the world, should make efforts to prevent and punish drunk driving.

  • This study was conducted to identify the structural causal relationship between the quality of college education service, college life adaptation, and learning competency perceived by undergraduate probation students. To achieve this research purpose, data were collected and analyzed through the development of questionnaires for undergraduate students and online questionnaires. The research results are as follows. First, it was found that university administrative service had a negatively significant effect on college life adaptation and learning competency. Second, it was found that the curriculum had a positive and significant effect on learning competencies through college life adaptation. Third, it was found that adaptation to college life had a statically significant effect on learning competency. These research results suggest that it is necessary to support the improvement of college life adaptation ability through the operation of university administrative services and curriculum tailored to students with academic probation.
