For the accurate safety assessment of potential radioactive waste disposal site which is located in the crystalline rock it is important to simulate the mass transportation through engineered and natural barrier system precisely, characterized by porous and fractured media respectively. In this work the methods to construct discrete fracture network for the analysis of flow and mass transport through fractured-porous medium are described. The probability density function is adopted in generating fracture properties for the realistic representation of real fractured rock. In order to investigate the intersection between a porous and a fractured medium described by a 2 dimensional rectangular and a cuboid grid respectively, an additional imaginary fracture is adopted at the face of a porous medium intersected by a fracture. In order to construct large scale flow paths an effective method to find interconnected fractures and algorithms of swift detecting connectivities between fractures or porous medium and fractures are proposed. These methods are expected to contribute to the development of numerical program for the simulation of radioactive nuclide transport through fractured-porous medium from radioactive waste disposal site.

The purpose of this study is to estimate the flood discharge and runoff volume at a stream by using geomorphologic parameters obtained from the topographic maps following the law of stream classification and ordering by Horton and Strahier. The present model is modified from Cheng' s model which derives the geomorphologic instantaneous unit hydrograph. The present model uses the results of Laplace transformation and convolution intergral of probability density function of the travel time at each state. The stream flow velocity parameters are determined as a function of the rainfall intensity, and the effective rainfall is calculated by the SCS method. The total direct runoff volume until the time to peak is estimated by assuming a triangular hydrograph. The model is used to estimate the time to peak, the flood discharge, and the direct runoff at Andong, Imha. Geomchon, and Sunsan basin in the Nakdong River system. The results of the model application are as follows : 1.For each basin, as the rainfall intensity doubles form 1 mm/h to 2 mm/h with the same rainfall duration of 1 hour, the hydrographs show that the runoff volume doubles while the duration of the base flow and the time to peak are the same. This aggrees with the theory of the unit hydrograph. 2.Comparisions of the model predicted and observed values show that small relative errors of 0.44-7.4% of the flood discharge, and 1 hour difference in time to peak except the Geomchon basin which shows 10.32% and 2 hours respectively. 3.When the rainfall intensity is small, the error of flood discharge estimated by using this model is relatively large. The reason of this might be because of introducing the flood velocity concept in the stream flow velocity. 4.Total direct runoff volume until the time to peak estimated by using this model has small relative error comparing with the observed data. 5.The sensitivity analysis of velocity parameters to flood discharge shows that the flood discharge is sensitive to the velocity coefficient while it is insensitive to the ratio of arrival time of moving portion to that of storage portion of a stream and to the ratio of arrival time of stream to that of overland flow.
This paper analyzes DLL(Delay lock loop) under the multipath fading effects. The evaluated performance measures include the steady-state timing error probability density function (PDF) and the mean-time-to-lose-lock (MTLL) under multipath fading effects. The discriminator characteristic S(${\epsilon}$) is shown to be zero at the point of timing error ${\epsilon}_{0}$ that is not zero, and the MTLL decreases as the delayed signal power $g_{2}$ and delayed time ${\tau}_{d}$ increase. We approximate the steady-state timing error PDF linearly with these variables and evaluate the steady-state timing error PDF and MTLL. The severe multipath fading effects result lower MTLL, in this case we make MTLL larger by increasing the early-late discriminator offset ${\Delta}$. First, we calculate the timing error point ${\epsilon}_{0}$, and present the performance of DLL under multipath fading. The timing error PDF, MTLL and the performance of DLL with ${\Delta}$ are also investigated. And we conclude that the larger ${\Delta}$ makes a higher MTLL and a better performance of DLL under multipath fading effects.

This paper proposes an efficient approach for hardware implementation of moving object detection (MOD) processor using effective Gaussian mixture learning (EGML)-based background subtraction method. Arithmetic units used in background generation were implemented using LUT-based approximation to reduce hardware complexity. Hardware resources used for both background subtraction and Gaussian probability density calculation were shared. The MOD processor was verified by FPGA-in-the-loop simulation using MATLAB/Simulink. The MOD performance was evaluated by using six types of video defined in IEEE CDW-2014 dataset, which resulted the average of recall value of 0.7700, the average of precision value of 0.7170, and the average of F-measure value of 0.7293. The MOD processor was implemented with 882 slices and block RAM of $146{\times}36kbits$ on Virtex5 FPGA, resulting in 60% hardware reduction compared to conventional design based on EGML. It was estimated that the MOD processor could operate with 75 MHz clock, resulting in real-time processing of $800{\times}600$ video with a frame rate of 39 fps.
As the infrastructures and populations are the condensed in the mega city, urban flood management becomes very important due to the severe loss of lives and properties. For the more accurate calculation of runoff from the urban catchment, hourly or even minute rainfall data have been utilized. However, the time steps of the measured or forecasted data under climate change scenarios are longer than hourly, which causes the difficulty on the application. In this study, daily rainfall data was disaggregated into hourly using the stochastic method. Based on the historical hourly precipitation data, Gram Schmidt orthonormalization process and K-Nearest Neighbor Resampling (KNNR) method were applied to disaggregate daily precipitation into hourly. This method was originally developed to disaggregate yearly runoff data into monthly. Precipitation data has smaller probability density than runoff data, therefore, rainfall patterns considering the previous and next days were proposed as 7 different types. Disaggregated rainfall was resampled from the only same rainfall patterns to improve applicability. The proposed method was applied rainfall data observed at Seoul weather station where has 52 years hourly rainfall data and the disaggregated hourly data were compared to the measured data. The proposed method might be applied to disaggregate the climate change scenarios.
Hydrologic dam risk analysis depends on complex hydrologic analyses in that probabilistic relationship need to be established to quantify various uncertainties associated modeling process and inputs. However, the systematic approaches to uncertainty analysis for hydrologic risk analysis have not been addressed yet. In this paper, two major innovations are introduced to address this situation. The first is the use of a Hierarchical Bayesian model based regional frequency analysis to better convey uncertainties associated with the parameters of probability density function to the dam risk analysis. The second is the use of Bayesian model coupled HEC-1 rainfall-runoff model to estimate posterior distributions of the model parameters. A reservoir routing analysis with the existing operation rule was performed to convert the inflow scenarios into water surface level scenarios. Performance functions for dam risk model was finally employed to estimate hydrologic dam risk analysis. An application to the Dam in South Korea illustrates how the proposed approach can lead to potentially reliable estimates of dam safety, and an assessment of their sensitivity to the initial water surface level.

Determining stop spacing is a very important process in transit system planning. This study is involved in an analytical approach to decide the transit stop spacing. Transit stop spacing should be longer as 1) user access speed, 2) user travel time, and 3) dwell time increase, and shorter as 1) passengers (boardings and alightings) and 2) headway increase. In this study, a methodology is proposed to determine transit stop spacing to minimize total cost (user cost plus operator cost) with irregular passenger distribution (boardings and alightings) Without considering in-vehicle passengers, the transit stop spacing should be shorter in the concentrated sections of the passenger distribution than in others to minimize total cost. Through the conceptual analysis, it is verified that the transit stop spacing could be longer as the in-vehicle passengers increase in certain sections. This study proposes a simple practical method to determine transit stop spacing and locations instead of a dynamic programming method which generally includes a complex and difficult calculation. If the space axis is changed to a time axis. the methodology of this study could be expanded to analyze a solution for the transit service (or headway) schedule problem.

This study involves an analytical approach to determine transit dispatching schedules (headways) Determining a time schedule is an important process in transit system planning. In general, the transit headway should be shorter during the peak hour than at non-peak hours for demand-responsive service. It allows passengers to minimize their waiting time under inelastic, fixed demand conditions. The transit headway should be longer as operating costs increase, and shorter as demand and waiting time increase. Optimal headway depends on the amount of ridership. and each individual vehicle dispatching time depends on the distribution of the ridership. This study provides a theoretical foundation for the dispatching scheme consistent with common sense. Previous research suggested a dispatching scheme with even headway. However, according to this research, that is valid for a specific case when the demand pattern is uniform. This study is a general analysis expanding that previous research. This study suggests an easy method to set a time table without a complex and difficult calculation. Further. if the time axis is changed to the space axis instead, this study could be expanded to address the spacing problems of some facilities such as roads. stations, routes and others.

Among the renewable energy resources, wind power is growing rapidly in terms of technological development and market share. Recently, onshore wind farm have been affected by limitations of terrestrial space and environmental problems. Consequently, installation sites have been moved to the sea, and the development of floating offshore wind farms that are installed at deep waters with more abundant wind conditions is actively underway. In the context of maritime traffic, the optimal site of offshore wind farms is required to minimize the interference between ships and wind turbines and to reduce the probability of accidents. In this study, genetic algorithm based AIS(Automatic Indentification System) data composed of genes and chromosomes has been used. The optimal site of floating offshore wind farm was selected by using 80 genes and by evaluating the fitness of genetic algorithm. Further, the final site was selected by aggregating the seasonal optimal site. During analysis, 11 optimal site were found, and it was verified that the final site selected usng the genetic algorithm was viable from the perspective of maritime traffic.
The purpose of this study is to develop and apply spatial landslide information system using Geographic information system (GIS) in concerned with spatial data. Landslide locations detected from interpretation of aerial photo and field survey, and topographic , soil , forest , and geological maps of the study area, Yongin were collected and constructed into spatial database using GIS. As landslide occurrence factors, slope, aspect and curvature of topography were calculated from the topographic database. Texture, material, drainage and effective thickness of soil were extracted from the soil database, and type, age, diameter and density of wood were extracted from the forest database. Lithology was extracted from the geological database, and land use was classified from the Landsat TM satellite image. In addition, landslide damageable objects such as building, road, rail and other facility were extracted from the topographic database. Landslide susceptibility was analyzed using the landslide occurrence factors by probability, logistic regression and neural network methods. The spatial landslide information system was developed to retrieve the constructed GIS database and landslide susceptibility . The system was developed using Arc View script language(Avenue), and consisted of pull-down and icon menus for easy use. Also, the constructed database can be retrieved through Internet World Wide Web (WWW) using Internet GIS technology.
