  • This paper reports a customized silver ink and its inkjet printing process on a cellulose electro-active paper (EAPap). To synthesize a silver ink, silver nanoparticle is synthesized from silver nitrate, polyvinylpyrrolidone and ethylene glycol, followed by adding a viscosifier, hydroxyethyl-cellulose solution, and a surfactant, diethylene glycol. The silver ink is used in an inkjet printer (Fujifilm Dimatix DMP-2800 series) to print silver electrodes on cellulose EAPap. After printing, the electrodes are heat treated at $200^{\circ}C$. The sintered electrodes show that the thickness of the electrodes linearly increases as the number of printing layers increases. The electrical resistivity of the printed electrodes is $23.5{\mu}{\Omega}-cm$. This customized ink can be used in inkjet printer to print complex electrode patterns on cellulose EAPap to fabricate flexible smart actuators, flexible electronics and sensors.

  • Materials used for the inks in the printing industry is an important material following the paper. The composition of the ink is pigment and organic solvents. However, Ink is used in a variety of chemicals, they are classified as non-green. Therefore, rosin-modified phenolics manufactured by the reaction of phenol and formaldehyde can take the place of eco-phenol free resin and by experiment density, gloss, trapping, contrast and dot gain of printing has been studied as printability. The result of study can support that the properties of printing using eco-phenol free resin such as density, gloss, contrast and trapping is similar to existing ink. In the part of dot gain, the result is excellent. So we were thought to be able to improve some characteristics such as dispersion of black ink, that will be possible for the field applicability.

  • Ever since the introduction of offset lithography, an operator have looked for ways to improve the process by reducing need for dampening solution. Lithography like off-set printing is processed using the repellent properties between water and oil, so all inks for lithography printing must work with dampening solution. The dampening solution may cause the emulsification of ink by the printing pressure in the printing nip. Emulsified ink changed viscosity, tack and causes problems such as bad transfer, uniform density and printed mottle. For a high quality web printing, we studied the effect of emulsified heat-set web inks on the printability, such as amount of ink transfer, printed density and uniformity. For this study, we were carried out by using IGT printability tester C1. For determination of ink properties using the spread meter and Thwing Albert Ink-o-meter, and using the densitometer and image analysis for printed quality determination. The experimental results of this study, we look forward to can be used as the basis for improve of the web print quality.

  • Natural dyes are more expensive than synthetic dyes and the dyeing process, which is mainly immersion of dye, is complicated. For this reason, relatively small-scale production methods were predominant. However, awareness and interest in environmental sustainability is rising globally, and the use of synthetic dyes causes various environmental problems such as wastewater and CO2 emission, so the consumption of natural dyes is increasing. In addition, interest in digital textile printing, an eco-friendly dyeing method that can produce products of various designs and uses less water, is growing. In this study, natural indigo dye (Indigofera tinctoria) was used as a raw material for Digital Textile Printing ink, and 14C (Biocarbon) present in it was measured to confirm whether it was derived from natural ingredients. The performance was confirmed by testing the pH, viscosity, electrical conductivity, surface tension, and particle size analysis of natural indigo ink. In addition, the performance of natural indigo DTP ink and printing fabric was evaluated by inspecting the change in color fastness and corresponding index substances before and after digital printing with natural indigo DTP ink on textiles. Through this, the possibility of commercialization of DTP ink and printing fabric using natural indigo was confirmed.

  • The print quality of a ink jet printer is generally affected by three major components of the printing process: printer, ink formulation, and paper. The result of this study indicated that the surface sized paper with oxidized starch and cationic starch differed ink jet print quality in terms of ink spread and black optical density of the print image. Paper properties, like air permeability and siting degree, which may influence the ink jet printing were also measured. It was found that black print quality was controlled by starch level and ionic charge on the paper surface. Cationic surface sizing starch improved black ink jet print quality.

  • The rheological properties of an ink relate to its performance on the press and to the printing quality. So it is necessary to analyze the relationship between printability and the rheological properties of ink. Transfer rate of ink is one of the important factor deciding print quality. And it is concerned with rheological properties of ink. Thus, in this study, according to the molecular weight of rosin modified phenolic resin the rheological properties of ink were measured by rotational rheometer and then transfer equation of ink, density and gloss were mesured in order to examine the printability of ink.

  • In order for disperse dye based ink to be fitted with the critical requirements of ink jet printing, this study was undertaken to investigate the effects of 6 different dispersants on the milling efficiency of insoluble dye particles and dispersion stability of the final ink. It was found that a polystyrene dispersant with high molecular weight exerted relatively better dispersion stability which may be associated with its steric stabilization effect in the ink solution.

  • Drying characteristics are confirmed by experiment to a printing machine which use Gravure ink or metal ink for an optimum design of direct radiation drying system room using NIR. As a result, Drying is easily accomplished in short distance and low moving speed in Gravure ink, but drying is dropped in metal ink because of oil. This confirmed that the development of water metal ink had to be proceeded to accomplish a perfect drying condition.

  • The color difference caused by the overprinting sequence of ink in multicolor printing is due to both trapping and optical properties of ink layers. Hence the effect of optical properties only cannot be analyzed without removing the effect of ink trapping This study was carrier out for the purpose of analyzing optically the color difference caused by only the optical properties of ink under the various printing sequence. The present optical analysis for overprints showed a good agreement with the experimental result. It is expected that this study may contribute to decreasing the color difference between the original and the printed reproduction in multi-color printing.

  • We have studied ink-jet printing method for patterning conductive line on flexible plastic substrates. Synthesized silver nano-particles of ${\sim}$20nm were used for the conductive ink and the printed patterns exhibit a smooth line whose linewidth is below 100 ${\mu}m$. This ink-jet printing technique can be applied to flexible displays and electronics.
