초동극성분포를 이용한 홍성지진의 Focal Mechanism 연구 (A Study on the Focal Mechanism of the Hongsung Earthquake from the P-Wave Polarity Distributions)

  • 본 연구에서는 P파형의 초동극성 분포를 이용하여 홍성지진의 Focal Mechanism을 평가하였다. 비선형 전산처리과정을 이용하여 원지진진앙거리에서 관측된 9개의 P파형의 초동극성 분포와 주향, 경사 및 상반변위방향의 변화로부터 구한 Focal Mechanism과의 부합성을 조사하였다. 위의 과정을 이용하여 처리한 결과 주단층면의 주향 및 겅사는 약 247도 및 약 78도로서 홍성부근지역의 선구조와 잘 일치함을 보여주었다. 그러나, 주단층면의 상반변위 방향은 약 40도에서 약 160도 까지의 광범위한 값을 보여주었으나, 이는 관측점의 방위각 분포가 불충분하기 때문인 것으로 분석되었다. 위에서 결정된 Focal Mechanism이 의미하는 주응력 방향은 일본 트렌치를 따라서 태평양판이 유라시아판 아래로 Subduction할 때 가능한 지응력장가 상반되지 않음을 보여 주었다. 또한, 이러한 Focal Mechanism으로부터 원자력발전소나 핵폐기물 처리장 및 처분장 건설시, 부지고유응답 스펙트럼 및 강지진동 자료와 같은 내진설계기준을 위해 필요한 한반도의 지진지체구조 특성에 대한 정보를 얻을 수 있다.

컴파운드 양궁의 팔로우 스루 동작과 사격 정확도의 상관관계 (Relationship of Follow-through Movements to Target Accuracy in Compound Archers)

  • Objective: This study aimed to investigate how the movements occurring during the follow-through phase after releasing an arrow among elite compound archers, are associated with the arrow impact points on the target. Method: Nine elite archers performed consecutive compound archery shooting under conditions identical to actual competitions using their own bows and equipment. Motion capture system and force platform were utilized to record the changes in joint positions and center of pressure, respectively. Principal component analysis was employed to identify the patterns in which multidimensional joint positions and COP changes were organized with horizontal and vertical coordinates of arrow impact points. Subsequently, correlation analysis quantified the relationship between individual variables and the coordinates of arrow impacts on the target. Results: We found a common organizational pattern in which the two axes of the impact point coordinates were grouped into the first two principal components. The movements of the upper and lower limbs following release exhibited opposite patterns in the anterior-posterior axis, with significant correlations observed between the arrow impact points of the horizontal axis and the left shoulder, right elbow, left hip, and both knees. Additionally, the lateral movements induced by the reaction force upon arrow release showed significant associations with the vertical coordinates of the impact points. Particularly, the correlations between the movements of the left shoulder and elbow, as well as the bilateral hip and right knee, were consistently observed among all participants. Conclusion: These findings implied that the post-release movements could significantly influence the trajectory and impact points of the arrows in compound archery. We suggest that a consistent and controlled movement during the follow-through phase may be more beneficial for optimizing shooting accuracy and precision rather than minimizing movements.

  • Mossbauer 분광법으로 비정질 Fe/sub 32/Ni/sub 36/Cr/sub 14/P/sub 12/B/sub 6/의 자기적 성질을 연구하였다. 88K의 스펙트럼 분석에 의하면 초미세 자기장의 값은 140.5kOe이며 사중극자 분열은 거의 0의 값을 같는데 이는 초미세 자기장이 전기장 기울기 주축에 대해서 무질서하게 나열함을 의미한다. 시료의 Tc는 280K이고 상자성 온도 영역에서는 사중극자 분열값은 온도에 무관하게 거의 일정한 값을 나타냈다. 되튐없는 확률로부터 시료의 Debye특성 온도 288K를 얻었다.

  • The present study is an experimental investigation into the behaviour of high strength concrete square short columns subjected to biaxial bending moments and strengthened by GFRP laminates. The main objectives of the study are: to evaluate the improvement in the structural performance of HSC short square columns subjected to small biaxial eccentricity when strengthened by externally applied FRP laminates, and to investigate the optimum arrangement and amount of FRP laminates to achieve potential enhancement in structural performance especially ductility. The parameters considered in this study are: number of FRP layers and arrangement of wraps. The load eccentricity is kept corresponding to e/t = 0.125 in two perpendicular directions to the columns principal axes, and the wraps are applied in single or double layers (partial or full wrapping). In the present work, test results of five full scale concrete columns are presented and discussed. The study has shown that FRP wraps can be used successfully to enhance the ductility of HSC columns subjected to biaxial bending by 300%.

Extracting the axis of potential axial symmetry employing variance minimization

  • Symmetry is one of the important structural properties of shapes both in perceptual psychology and in computer vision. Recently, a number of automatic symmetry finding algorithms have been reported. Among them, the algorithm based on the use of principal axes of objects is the most general and practical. It is, however, of no use when shapes concerned have some asymmetry. Asymmetric shapes which make us associate with certain kinds of symmetry are practically important and they are called shapes with potential symmetry in this paper. The algorithm we have already proposed can cope with those shapes having potential axial symmetry. The algorithm employs a reflected image of the original and a certain evaluation function. In the former paper, areal minimization was employed for the evaluation function and it yielded satisfactory experimental results. However, it could not cope with those shapes which have larger asymmetry. In this paper, we propose the employment of variance as an alternative evaluation index with respect to the difference image between the reflected and the original shape. The technique is examined its performance by real video images as well as synthetic data. Experimental results are shown and discussion is given.

Recognizing asymmetric moire patterns for human spinal deformity detection

  • Recently, the number of techniques for analyzing medical images has been increasing in computer vision, employing X-ray CT images, ultrasound images, MR images, moire topographic images, etc. Spinal deformity is a serious problem especially for teenagers and medical doctors inspect moire topographic images of their backs visually for the primary screening. If a subject is normal, the moire image is almost symmetric with respect to the middle line of the subject's back, otherwise it shows asymmetric shape. In this paper, an image analysis technique is described for discriminating suspicious cases from normal in human spinal deformity by recognizing asymmetric moire images of human backs. The principal axes which are sensitive to asymmetry of the moire image are extracted at two parts on a subject's back and their angles are evaluated with respect to the detected middle line of the back. The two angles compose a 2-D feature space and inspected cases are divided into two clusters in the space by a linear discriminant function based on the Mahalanobis distance. Given 120 cases, 60 normal and 60 abnormal, the leave-out method was applied for the recognition and 75% recognition rate was achieved.

모션 캡쳐를 위한 AHRS의 성능 향상 (Performance Improvement of an AHRS for Motion Capture)

  • This paper describes the implementation of wearable AHRS for an electromagnetic motion capture system that can trace and analyze human motion on the principal nine axes of inertial sensors. The module provides a three-dimensional (3D) attitude and heading angles combining MEMS gyroscopes, accelerometers, and magnetometers based on the extended Kalman filter, and transmits the motion data to the 3D simulation via Wi-Fi to realize the unrestrained movement in open spaces. In particular, the accelerometer in AHRS is supposed to measure only the acceleration of gravity, but when a sensor moves with an external linear acceleration, the estimated linear acceleration could compensate the accelerometer data in order to improve the precision of measuring gravity direction. In addition, when an AHRS is attached in an arbitrary position of the human body, the compensation of the axis of rotation could improve the accuracy of the motion capture system.

3차원 공간에서 코일스프링의 강성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Stifness of Coil Spring in the Three Dimensional Space)

  • Springs are widely utilized in machine element. To find out stiffness of coil spring, the space beam theory using the finite element method is adopted in this paper. In three dimensional space, a space frame element is a straight bar of uniform cross section which is capable of resisting axial forces, bending moments about two principal axes in the plane of its cross section and twisting moment about its centroidal axis. The corresponding displacement degrees of freedom are twelve. The displacements of nodal points due to small increment of force are calculated by the finite element method and the calculated nodal displacements are added to coordinates of nodal points. The new stiffness matrix of the system using the new coordinates of nodal points is adopted to calculated the another increments of nodal displacements, that is, the step by step method is used in this paper. The results of the finite element method are fairly well agreed with those of various experiments. Using MATLAB program developed in this paper, spring constants can be predicted by input of few factors.

And this theory was programming using MATLAB software. To compare FEM using MATLAB software was applied MSC. Nastran software. The geometry model for MSC. Patran was produced by 3-D design modeling software. Finite element model was produced by MSC. Patran. Finite element was applied tetra (CTETRA) having 10 node. The analysis results of the MATLAB and MSC. Nastran are fairly well agreed with those of various experiments. Using MATLAB program proposed in this paper and MSC. Nastran, spring constants and stresses can be predicted by input of few factors.

On the accuracy of estimation of rigid body inertia properties from modal testing results

  • The rigid body inertia properties of a structure including the mass, the center of gravity location, the mass moments and principal axes of inertia are required for structural dynamic analysis, modeling of mechanical systems, design of mechanisms and optimization. The analytical approaches such as solid or finite element modeling can not be used efficiently for estimating the rigid body inertia properties of complex structures. Several experimental approaches have been developed to determine the rigid body inertia properties of a structure via Frequency Response Functions (FRFs). In the present work two experimental methods are used to estimate the rigid body inertia properties of a frame. The first approach consists of using the amount of mass as input to estimate the other inertia properties of frame. In the second approach, the property of orthogonality of modes is used to derive the inertia properties of a frame. The accuracy of the estimated parameters is evaluated through the comparison of the experimental results with those of the theoretical Solid Work model of frame. Moreover, a thorough discussion about the effect of accuracy of measured FRFs on the estimation of inertia properties is presented.
