The purpose of this study is to develope and analyze the assessment items which can be used in evaluation of the fraction computation ability for fifth grade students. The item development team consists of three elementary school teachers and three mathematics education expert. The developed items was analyzed item analysis after applying to 135 fifth grade students. As a results of item analysis, it shows meaningful over the level of a standard basis: reliability: 0.80; validity: item 1(1.05), item 2(1.10), item 3(.85), item 4(.90), item 5(1.08); item difficulty: item 1(-.22), item 2(-.41), item 3(.23), item 4(.40), item 5(-.01); item discrimination: item 1(.73), item 2(.73), item 3(.67), item 4(.51), item 5(.56). This means that the test tool could be useful in the evaluation of the fraction computation ability.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of the proporation of household expenditure item and the subjective burden of household due to the private educational expenses. The data used in this study included 761 housewives who have a child of the second grade or fourth grade of primary-school in Seoul. The findings of this study are as follows: First these six variables-educational level of mother household income place of residence grade of child number of child and the expected educational level of child-have significant effects on the private educational expenses. Second the proporation of food expense housing expense clothing expense and miscellaneous expense significantly differ with respect to the private educational expenses. Generally the proporation of household expenditure item and subjective burden are influenced more by the private educational expenses for school work than by the private educational expenses for talent.

This study investigated the self-concepts of Korean students based on Marsh and Shavelson's(1985) multidimensional hierarchical model. Reduced forms of the Self-Description Questionnaire(SDQ)-I and -II were administered to 308 5th and 6th grade students and 718 7th to 9th grade students. Results of 2 factor analyses indicated that sub-scales 9 and 11 were well established for SDQ-I and -II, respectively, partly confirming the multidimensionality of self-concept. The factors involving distinctions between academic and non-academic higher-order factors and between the academic/math and the academic/verbal factors were not so differentiated nor hierarchically arranged as proposed by the model. These differences may be attributed to the heavy influence of the academic self-concept on the other sub-factors. A Locality ${\times}$ Sex ${\times}$ Grade ANOVA showed main effects of locality favoring urban areas and of sex favoring boys.

The purposes of this study were to investigate the practice of performance assessment in elementary mathematics classes especially focused on 4th grade. To achieve this, three research questions were posed as follow: First, What do they prepare for performance assessment? Second, What kinds of tests do they use in mathematics performance assessment? Third, What kinds of difficulties do they have for performance assessment and what should be changed for a successful performance assessment in mathematics? To Answer the research questions, three 4th grade classes were selected from three different elementary schools in seoul and three teachers were interviewed. From the data analysis, several conclusion were drawn. First, a plan for mathematics performance assessment was not set by the class teacher who are in charge of the class. The main reason was lack of time. Second, in most of the assessment, written tests were used and the items in the tests were skill-oriented. Third, teachers thought that performance assessment was needed in mathematics. But lack of their time, knowledge and competency, it is difficult to do performance assessment in mathematics.

This study was aimed to find out ancestral environmental protection wisdom in their life style, and to teach environmental education applying its results in primary school. A dissertation survey was conducted to analyze environmental protection eco-wisdom, environmental education about traditional culture, application of indigenous knowledge in ancestral traditional culture for environmental education in the primary school, and Korean traditional culture presented in 5th grade subject courses of the 7th school curricula. In addition, a environmental education program was developed by applying wisdom of traditional life style and the strategy of environmental education utilizing the results from the above data in primary school was explored. It was found that students understand the value of environment education and are more interested in the ancestral life style, environmental protection wisdom from traditional culture. Also, students understand the ancestral thinking in environment, the wisdom of old Korean, and the importance of echo-wisdom related on traditional culture. Based on above results, the suggestions of this study are made as follows. First, by searching for more wisdom from traditional culture vigorously, it is needed that developing more teaching text combined environmental education with traditional culture through other curriculums. In addition, for this kind of teaching being used efficiently in another schools, the place and environmental teaching aid is needed.

This study was conducted as a qualitative case study that explored how gifted 3rd-grade elementary school children who had learned the primary concepts of division and fraction, when they studied contents about decimal, formed the transformed primary concept and transformed schema of decimal by the learning of accurate primary concepts and connecting the concepts. That is, this study investigated how the subjects attained relational understanding of decimal based on the primary concepts of division and fraction, and how they formed a transformed primary concept based on the primary concept of decimal and carried out vertical mathematizing. According to the findings of this study, transformed primary concepts formed through the learning of accurate primary concepts, and schemas and transformed schemas built through the connection of the concepts played as crucial factors for the children's relational understanding of decimal and their vertical mathematizing.

This study was conducted to assess the nutritional status of female students in the 6th grade in a rural primary school. The anthropometric data showed their mean height and weight were 149.5$\pm$6.5cm and 41.3$\pm$7.6kg, respectively, which are slightly higher than those in the Korean Standard Growth data. It was further observed that there was a wide variation in terms of physical growth and development among subjects. The mean hematocrit value was 40.3$\pm$3.3$\%$ and the mean hemoglobin concentration was 12.9$\pm$1.0gm/㎗. It was proven that 22.8$\%$ of subjects were anemic based on the WHO standards for hemoglobin level. Twenty four hour dietary recall revealed that their food intakes of subjects was appropriate, compared to the RDA except for Ca. Mean Ca intake among subjects was 381.3mg which is 47.7$\%$ of RDA. Nutrition education from mothers and the school influence nutrient intake significantly. Special nutrition education programs targeting mothers and students should be developed to provide practical assistance such as food choice and the forming of good eating habit.

Objectives : This study was designed to evaluate completely the relationship between obesity and Qui Xue Shui diagnostic procedure in primary and middle school students. Methods : The study participants were the 1, 2nd grade students of middle school and 5, 6th grade students of primary school in Kang dong Gu of Seoul (1134 Students). The participants were measured for their height and weight etc, and they were also surveyed by questionnaire. We diagnosed the students as when they scored 10 points or behind on Qui Xue Shui(QXS) question problems from Japan education academy. Results and Conclusions : The mean QXS score in the obese group was significantly higher than that of the normal body weight group and the obeser they are, the higher QXS score is. The Qi xu, Qi yu, Xue xu, Shui chi score of the QXS questions the obese group was higher than the normal group. The total QXS score was significantly higher in the obese group. It is shown that the total score of using the Qui Xue Shui diagnostic procedure is mainly dependent on obesity.

In this study, we analyzed algorithm curriculum in Korea, the United Kingdom, the United States, India, and Estonia. In order to teach 1st - 9th grade students computer algorithm, we suggested the algorithm framework based on the spiral curriculum, which is repeatable and progressive. The framework is divided into 4 areas, which includes understanding, expressing, evaluating, and using algorithms in daily life. Each area has 4 levels which are based on the students grade. We have to offer lectures for about computer OS to student teachers at the National Universities of Education; to develop textbooks and materials about algorithm; and to establish Information Science as a part of the primary school curriculum.
