  • In this paper, the leakage safety of prestressed concrete structure including the insulation panels has been analyzed using a finite element analysis just after a collapse of 9% nickel inner tank. This FEM study shows that the outer tank may contain the leaked cryogenic liquid for the time being until the primary pump in the inner tank transports stored cryogenic liquids to the nearest LNG storage tank before the outer tank is demolished. This means that the total tank thickness from the insulation panel to the outer tank system safely may retain the leaked cryogenic fluids. The FE computed results indicate that the current structure in a full containment tank is obviously enough to securing the leak-proof safety of the tank system with two primary pumps.

  • Here, we report a chain-length dependent morphology and pore structure tailing of mesoporous silica templated from organogels, which is formed by primary alkylamine and ethylene glycol at room temperature. As the chain length of alkylamine changes from 12 to 18, the resulted materials exhibit a morphology change from layers to spheres and platelets, respectively. SEM and TEM observation revealed that these shapes appear to be inherited from their parent organogels. Further pore structure characterization by nitrogen sorption analysis demonstrates that all the resulted silicas exhibit typical IV isotherms indicative of uniform mesopores, and their pore sizes are dependent on the chain length of alkylamine used.

  • The amino acid sequence of basic isozyme 55 of Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP E5) was determined by protein sequencing. HRP E5 consisted about 300 residues, and has a molecular weight of approximately 36,000 $\pm$ 500 dalton. The protein was rich In aspartic acid (14%), arginine(13%), and leucine(11%). The primary structure of HRP E5 was established by sequencing its tryptic (T1-T19) and lysylendopeptic (Al-A3) peptides. The sequence homology between HRP E5 and HRP C (neutral isozyme of horseradish peroxidase) is found to be more than 66%. The highest concentration of identical residues are found on residues 29~56, 90~123, and 155~173, but relatively low on 174~271.

  • Four new species of genus Scalarispongia (Demospongiae: Dictyoceratida: Thorectidae) are described from Jejudo Island, Korea. These new species of Scalarispongia are compared with 14 reported species of the genus by the skeletal structure. Scalarispongia songakensis n. sp. is similar to S. lenis in sponge shape but differs in skeletal structure and meshes are not divided into two sections. The length of secondary fibres between primary fibres of this new species is much longer than S. lenis'. Scalarispongia radicula n. sp. is resembles S. songakensis in sponge shape, but this new species has pseudo-tertiary fibres at the sponge base. Scalarispongia maraensis n. sp. is very similar to S. subjiensis in sponge shape but primary fibres of this new species are not simple because fibres have wide webbing. Scalarispongia massa n. sp. is characterized by the large mass sponge shape and numerous open oscules form a long ling on the ridge of the sponge.

  • We have mined each of the five A. thaliana chromosomes for the presence of simple sequence repeats (SSRs) and developed custom perl scripts to examine their distribution and abundance in relation to genomic position, local G/C content and location within and around transcribed sequences. The distribution of repeats and G/C content with respect to genomic regions (exons, UTRs, introns, intergenic regions and proximity to expressed genes) are shown. SSRs show a non-random distribution across the genome and a strong association within and around transcribed sequences, while G/C density is associated specifically with the coding portions of transcribed sequences. SSR motif repeat number shows a high degree of variation for each SSR type and a high degree of motif sequence bias reflecting local genome sequence composition. PCR primers suitable for the amplification of identified SSRs have been designed where possible, and are available for further studies.

  • A novel active controlled primary current cutting-off zero-voltage and zero-current switching (ZVZCS) PWM three-level dc-dc converter (TLC) is proposed in this paper. The proposed converter has some attractive advantages. The OFF voltage on the primary switches is only Vin/2 due to the series connected structure. The leading-leg switches can obtain zero-voltage switching (ZVS), and the lagging-leg switches can achieve zero-current switching (ZCS) in a wide load range. Two MOSFETs, referred to as cutting-off MOSFETs, with an ultra-low on-state resistance are used as active controlled primary current cutting-off components, and the added conduction loss can be neglected. The added MOSFETs are switched ON and OFF with ZCS that is irrelevant to the load current. Thus, the auxiliary switching loss can be significantly minimized. In addition, these MOSFETs are not series connected in the circuit loop of the dc input bus bar and the primary switches, which results in a low parasitic inductance. The operation principle and some relevant analyses are provided, and a 6-kW laboratory prototype is built to verify the proposed converter.

  • A ship is composed of many grillage structures especially the deck which is consists of primary girders, transverse and longitudinal members. Several holes are arranged on these primary members for pipes, vents, etc. which cause stress concentration due to the discontinuity of the member. It is not easy to get the stress values around all these holes because of the huge amount of time necessary for computations. In this paper, a simple method to compute for the stress around the holes is suggested. This method is composed of two steps which are grillage analysis for primary members and detailed stress analysis using the results of the grillage analysis. This method is made for the design of the primary members with openings supporting the deck structure.

  • The primary cilium is a microtubule-based structure projecting from a cell. Although the primary cilium shows no motility, it can recognize environmental stimuli. Thus, ciliary defects cause severe abnormalities called ciliopathies. Ciliogenesis is a very complex process and involves a myriad of components and regulators. In order to excavate the novel positive regulators of ciliogenesis, we performed mRNA microarray using starved NIH/3T3 cells. We selected 62 murine genes with corresponding human orthologs, with significantly upregulated expression at 24 h after serum withdrawal. Finally, calpain-6 was selected as a positive regulator of ciliogenesis. We found that calpain-6 deficiency reduced the percentage of ciliated cells and impaired sonic hedgehog signaling. It has been speculated that this defect might be associated with decreased levels of ${\alpha}-tubulin$ acetylation at lysine 40. This is the first study to report a novel role of calpain-6 in the formation of primary cilia.

  • In the fabrication of dry adhesive structure, increasing contact-points or contact-area is the primary goal because the adhesive force grows in proportion to the contact-area. The simplest way to extend the contact surface is the fabrication by using soft materials. However, the column-array structure could confront the matting phenomenon which columns are stuck together. Therefore, we need a novel design to reduce the effective stiffness with adequate stiff materials like a gecko's setae. In this study, we propose a novel design for the dry adhesive structure. Moreover, we analyzed whether the adhesive structure conforms the rough surface sufficiently through finite element method adopted the non-bonding interaction as the body force. Also, we fabricated the novel structures via UV lithography and some techniques. In addition, we examined the adhesive force of the novel structures.
