1차 크리프 속도를 고려한 크리프 균열 진전의 유한요소 해석 (Finite Element Analysis of Creep Crack Growth Behavior Including Primary Creep Rate)

  • An elastic-viscoplastic finite element analysis is performed to investigate detailed growth behavior of creep cracks and the numerical results are compared with experimental results. In Cr-Mo steel stress fields obtained from the crack growth method by mesh translation were compared with both cases that the secondary creep rate is only used as creep material property and the primary creep rate is included. Analytical stress fields, Riedel-Rice(RR) field, Hart-Hui-Riedel(HR) field and Prime(named in here) field, and the results obtained by numerical method were evaluated in details. Time vs. stress at crack tip was showed and crack tip stress fields were plotted. These results were compared with analytical stress fields. There is no difference of stress distribution at remote region between the case of 1st creep rate+2nd creep rate and the case of 2nd creep rate only. In case of slow velocity of crack growth, the effect of 1st creep rate is larger than the one of fast crack growth rate. Stress fields at crack tip region we, in order, Prime field, HR field and RR field from crack tip.

  • Background: Mitigation of primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) is a significant issue in the nuclear industry. Advanced nickel-based alloys with lower susceptibility have been adopted, although they do not seem to be entirely immune from PWSCC during normal operation. With regard to structural integrity assessments of the relevant components, an accurate evaluation of crack growth rate (CGR) is important. Methods: For the present study, the extended finite element method was adopted from among diverse meshless methods because of its advantages in arbitrary crack analysis. A user-subroutine based on the strain rate damage model was developed and incorporated into the crack growth evaluation. Results: The proposed method was verified by using the well-known Alloy 600 material with a reference CGR curve. The analyzed CGR curve of the alternative Alloy 690 material was then newly estimated by applying the proven method over a practical range of stress intensity factors. Conclusion: Reliable CGR curves were obtained without complex environmental facilities or a high degree of experimental effort. The proposed method may be used to assess the PWSCC resistance of nuclear components subjected to high residual stresses such as those resulting from dissimilar metal welding parts.

PWSCC Growth Assessment Model Considering Stress Triaxiality Factor for Primary Alloy 600 Components

  • We propose a primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) initiation model of Alloy 600 that considers the stress triaxiality factor to apply to finite element analysis. We investigated the correlation between stress triaxiality effects and PWSCC growth behavior in cold-worked Alloy 600 stream generator tubes, and identified an additional stress triaxiality factor that can be added to Garud's PWSCC initiation model. By applying the proposed PWSCC initiation model considering the stress triaxiality factor, PWSCC growth simulations based on the macroscopic phenomenological damage mechanics approach were carried out on the PWSCC growth tests of various cold-worked Alloy 600 steam generator tubes and compact tension specimens. As a result, PWSCC growth behavior results from the finite element prediction are in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • In this paper, a short primary-short secondary single-sided linear induction motor which is used as the driving source for an automatic conveyor system, is selected as an analysis model. The finite element method in which the current vector potential is introduced is adopted to analyze the eddy current distribution and thrust force which are produced according to the relative position of the primary and the secondary. Also, the analysis results are compared with experimental ones, to show the propriety of this model.

알루미늄 B390합금의 조직미세화에 미치는 Ca의 영향 (Effects of Ca on the Refinement of Microstructure in Aluminum B390 Alloy)

  • Effects of Ca content on the refinement of primary Si of Aluminum B390 alloy have been examined. Ca was found to have an effect on the refinement of primary Si particle. Primary Si particle size has been refined as Ca content of the melts decreased and cooling rate increased. A control of Ca content by the addition of $CuCl_2$ to the melt was the most efficient in the refinement of primary Si particles. The minimum size of primary Si particles in this study was $15.0\;{\mu}m$ when a residual content of Ca element in the alloy was 5ppm, Primary Si particle size was refined as primary Si crystallization temperature increased, which was attributed to the decrease of Ca content in the melts.

  • Chevron rubber springs are used in primary suspensions for rail vehicle. Chevron rubber spring have function which reduce vibration and noise, support load carried in operation of rail vehicle. Prediction and evaluation of characteristics are very important in design procedure to assure the safety and reliability of the rubber spring. The computer simulation using the nonlinear finite element analysis program executed to predict and evaluate the load capacity and stiffness for the chevron spring. The non-linear properties of rubber which are described as strain energy functions are important parameters. These are determined by material tests which are uniaxial tension, equi-biaxial tension and shear test. The appropriate shape and material properties are proposed to adjust the required characteristics of rubber springs in the three modes of flexibility.

  • An elast-biscoplastic finite element analysis is performed to investigate detailed growth behavior of creep cracks and the numerical results are compared with experimental results. The results of mesh translation method are compared with those of node release method. Load line displancement curve obtained from the crack growth analysis by mesh translation shows the improved results than that obtained from the crack growth by node release method when the secondary creep rate is only used as creep material property. The results of accounting for primary creep rate and instantaneous plasticity shows a good agreement with the experimental result.

  • Metal bonded rubber spring is used in primary suspension component of the high speed train. The aim of this study is to establish a finite element analysis technique for the metal bonded rubber spring. Some theoretical analyses were performed on the hyperelastic behavior in rubber material and test are carried out to acquire the constants in strain energy function for it. Also, finite element analysis were executed to evaluate the design parameter and behavior of deformation and stress distribution using by the commercial finite element code.

구상흑연주철의 수축결함생성에 미치는 주조방안 및 합금원소의 영향 (Effects of Risering Design and Alloying Element on Formation of Shrinkage Cavity in Ductile Cast Iron)

  • The effects of risering design and alloying element on the formation of defects such as external depression, primary and secondary shrinkage cavities in ductile cast iron were investigated. Two types of risering design for the cylindrically step-wise specimen, No. 1(progressive solidification) and No. 2(directional solidification) risering designs, were prepared and six different alloy compositions were casted. In the No. 1 risering design, external depression or primary shrinkage cavities due to liquid contraction were observed in all the specimens from SG 10 to SG 60. The defects caused by liquid contraction seemed to be more affected by risering design than alloying elements. The secondary shrinkage cavities were also observed in all the specimens but a swollen surface was not observed in all the castings. The primary shrinkage cavities were located right under the top surface or connected to the top surface, and were characterized by smooth surfaces. On the other hand, the secondary shrinkage cavities were positioned in the thermal center of the specimen steps 3 and 4, and characterized by rough surfaces. In the No. 2 risering design, no external depression or primary shrinkage cavities due to liquid contraction were observed in all the specimens from SG 10 to SG 60. However, the secondary shrinkage cavities were formed in the thermal center of specimens SG 40, 50 and 60. Like the No. 1 risering design, a swollen surface was not observed in all the castings.

  • Stability and loosening of implanted femoral stems in Total Hip Replacement have been well established as barriers to the primary concerns of osseointegration and long term implant survival. In-vitro experiments and finite element modeling have for years been used as a primary tool to assess the bone stem interface with variable methodologies leading to a wide range of micromotion, interference fit and stress shielding values in the literature. The current study aims to provide a comprehensive review of currently utilized methodologies for in-vitro mechanical testing as well as finite element modeling of both micromotion and interference of implanted femoral stems. A total of 12 studies detailed in 33 articles were selected for inclusion. Experimental values of micromotion ranged from 12 to $182{\mu}m$ while finite element analysis reported a wider range from 2.74 to $1,277{\mu}m$. Only two studies were found that modeled bone/implant contact with consideration for interference fit. In studies evaluating stem micromotion in THA, the reference surface at the bone/stem interface should be well defined. Additionally, the amount of penetration considered should be disclosed and associated with bone density and roughness.
