  • Recently, Since buildings are bigger and higher, the damage of human life can be increased by fire flame and smoke in fire. Smoke control system is necessary to decrease this damage. Therefore, Air supply pressurization smoke control system is applied to vestibule of escape stairway. NFSC requires pressure differential of 40 Pa~60 Pa, but pressure differential is over 60 Pa in the field. It is known that the cause of this over pressure differential is much leakage of damper. Over pressure differential can bad effect to escaper by pressurizing the door. Analyze the real leakage of damper by testing for identifying this problems. The result of testing, leakage is $0.090m^3/s{\sim}0.154m^3/s$. It is necessary to limit the leakage of dampers for safe of escapers.

  • The mechanism of power transmission from motor torque to stem thrust and the operation characteristic of each stroke position are analyzed using the diagnostic signal, and effects of differential pressure on the performance of motor operated flexible wedge gate valve are investigated. Test facility consists of 76 mm motor operated valve(flexible wedge type), pump and pipe system. Static and dynamic test are performed separately, and two differential pressure conditions are applied in the dynamic test. To evaluate the performance of valve, test signals for the torque, thrust, current, voltage and stroke length are acquired by using UDS which is diagnosis device for motor operated valve, and each diagnostic signal is analyzed and compared. The characteristic of valve performance factors such as stem factor, rate of loading, valve factor, are evaluated, and these factors are found to be severely influenced by the fluid differential pressure.

  • In case of engine room of ship, it uses type 2 ventilation system which supplies outside air forcibly by engine room ventilation fan, and naturally discharges air to outlet through low-pressed casing. The advantage of type 2 ventilation is that it makes inside with bi-pressure status to discharge contaminated materials to outside naturally. However, there is a phenomenon that pressure is greatly different between outside and inside due to huge amount of air supply by engine room ventilation fan. Therefore, we went aboard a container vessel which is on test run to analyze differential pressure with micronanometer by engine load and by combustion air supply method of engine. As a result, as engine load decreases (50, 75, 100%), the differential pressure between outside and inside tends to increase by 35% average, and the difference of pressure was 6.5 times maximum by combustion air supply method of engine.

  • The appearance of the negative differential pressure(NDP), in which the shot base pressure is higher than the breech pressure, indicates that a potential damage on the gun system is increased. In order to safeguard the gun system, the igniter must be designed to minimize the NDP during the firing process. From this reason, the effect of igniter's burning rate on the NDP of the interior ballistics has been investigated through the numerical simulations. The NDP has been increased with increment of the coefficient in the burning rate of the igniter. A sudden change of the chamber pressure has been shown in case of using a singular coefficient.

A Study of Flow Characteristics in Pressure Independent Control Valve for Hydronic System (냉난방수배관시스템용 차압독립형 유량제어밸브의 유동특성 연구)

  • In this study, set values of PICV(Pressure Independent Control Valve) were simulated according to the pressure distribution and velocity. The higher the set value and the open rate, as the lower the pressure in the neck. On the contrary, the lower the set value and open rate, as the higher the pressure in the neck. When the set value was small, the pressure was distributed sufficiently and confirmed that the pressure was generated by the VOF, confirming that it could generate a vapor pressure. When the set value 100 %, the lower corn open rate of the differential pressure was 46 % to 29 %, set value 100 % was 29 % to 19 %, and set value 6 % was 12 % to 6 % for the lower corn open rate percentile, it was limited to within 50 %. Thus, the results of this study on the correlation between open rate and differential pressure of the set value of the PICV will be beneficial to improve performance of flow control valves and contribute to their efficient operation used for a hydronic system.

  • Differential pressure sensor for DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is the important part of a automobile exhaust system. This device measures the pressure of before DOC and after DPF to determine whether the DPF regenerate. In this paper reliability assessment criteria for DPF differential pressure sensor are established on terms of quality calcification test and lifetime test. The former quality certification test comprises general performance test and environmental test. Items which pass the test undergo lifetime test which guarantees the extent of mean lifetime with certain confidence.

  • Recently, many studies related to reducing the energy consumption in data centers have been conducted. These studies have mainly focused on the air intake and exhaust system of a computer room air handling unit (CRAH) in the server room, diffuser type, suppression and discharge of the heat generated from the server, and the air-side economizer system. In this study, the energy consumption of the conventional central chilled water cooling system is compared with the energy consumption of the air-side economizer system. We also examined how changes of differential pressure by each filter have influenced energy consumption, using the power usage effectiveness (PUE). Results show that the PUE was improved, and energy consumption decreased, by applying the air-side economizer system.

  • The fact that the major cases of life casualties are from smoke in the fire accidents and the expected steep increase of skyscrapers, huge spaces, multiplexes and huge scaled underground spaces demand establishment of efficient smoke countermeasure. The field experiments on pressure differential systems for smoke management in two high buildings of 20 stories and 21 stories are carried out to evaluate the features of airflow through open door between accommodation and lobby. The procedures and results of experiments are presented.

  • The fact that the major cases of life casualties are from smoke in the fire accidents and the expected steep increase of skyscrapers, huge spaces, multiplexes and huge scaled underground spaces demand establishment of efficient smoke countermeasure. In pressure differential systems for smoke management, the speed of airflow through open door between accommodation and lobby should be maintained over 0.5m/s on the whole area of door to prevent smoke from infiltrate into evacuation root when the door is open for refuge. The numerical analysis on features of airflow through open door are carried out and the results are presented.
