  • In this study, mothers of 205 4- to 5-year-old preschoolers responded to aggression episodes of Werner et al. (2006); preschoolers' teachers responded to the Preschool Social Behavior Scale (Crick et al., 1997). Results showed, (1) boys exhibited more overt and relational aggression. (2) In overt aggression episodes, mothers used encouragement to boys and rule violation responses to girls; in relational aggression episodes, mothers used encouragement and power assertion responses to girls. (3) Mothers' power assertion about overt aggression related negatively with preschoolers' overt aggressive behaviors; mothers' discussion about relational aggression related positively with preschoolers' overt aggressive behaviors. Implications of these findings for the mothers' responses by aggression types were discussed in order in better understand preschooler's aggressive behaviors.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore relationships between preschooler's aggression and social skills, maternal management strategies of peer relations and parenting behaviors and preschoolers' internet-game addictive inclination. Participants included seventy-seven (77) 5 to 6-year-old preschoolers (44 boys, 33 girls) and their mothers. The Aggressive Behavior Scale (Lee & Choi, 2001), the Social Skill Rating Scale (Suh, 2004), the Maternal Parenting Behaviors Scale (Rhu & Lee, 2007) and the Parental Involvement Checklist (Park, 2001) were used in this study. The Internet Game Addiction Scale (Korea Agency for Digital Opportunity and Promotion, 2006) was used to identify higher and lower addictive level of internet-game inclination. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and t-test. Major findings revealed that preschooler's social skills, maternal management strategies of peer relations and parenting behaviors showed a predictable correlation to preschooler's internet-game addictive inclination.

The results of this study were as follows. First, there were significant differences between posttests and pretests results. The results showed a decrease in maladaptive preschooler's problematic behaviors and aggressive strategies. • This study examine the mediating role of teacher-child relationships on children's effortful control and problem behaviors. Boys and girls were analyzed separately. Participants were 221 children(l21 boys, 100 girls; aged 4-5), their mothers and 19 child care teachers. The teachers completed rating scales to measure the perception of teacher-child relationships and the children's problem behaviors. Children's effortful control was rated by the mother's questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, Pearson's correlations, and hierarchical multiple regressions. Results indicated that children's effortful control was negatively related to their problem behaviors. In addition, the associations between children's effortful control and their aggressive behaviors were mediated by conflictual teacher-child relationship. Also, the relation of girl's effortful control and her withdrawal behavior was partially mediated by conflictual teacher-child relationship. Finally, the association between boy's effortful control and his withdrawal behavior was mediated by close teacher-child relationship. Results suggest the importance of teacher-child relationships in the context of intervention planning for preschooler's problem behaviors.
