  • The demand and production for mobile music increases as the number of smart phone users increase. Thus, the standard of selection of a user's preferred music has gotten more diverse and complicated as the range of popular music has gotten wider. Research to find intelligent techniques to ingeniously recommend music on user preferences under mobile environment is actively being conducted. However, existing music recommendation systems do not consider and reflect users' preferences due to recommendations simply employing users' listening log. This paper suggests a personalized music-recommending system that well reflects users' preferences. Using AHP, it is possible to identify the musical preferences of every user. The user feedback based on the Bayesian network was applied to reflect continuous user's preference. The experiment was carried out among 12 participants (four groups with three persons for each group), resulting in a 87.5% satisfaction level.

  • This study examined the current state of snowboarding apparel. We investigated the preferred design, the required functions, and inconvenient factors in snowboard apparel through interviews with snowboard pro-players and questionnaires with functional apparel consumers. The research was conducted as follows. In order to raise problems through interviews with pro-snowboarders and grasp the individual traits of consumers, a survey was conducted with male and female consumers in their 20s-30s who enjoy snowboarding and those who had purchased specialized brand snowboarding apparel more than once. After the survey with consumers, this study set the classification standard for snowboard maniacs according to snowboarding frequency and classified the snowboarders into two groups. Both groups carry MP3 players most frequently in ordinary times and they preferred notable and brilliant colors and partially-used patterns (printed patterns). Through the investigation of the mobile functions that the snowboarders wanted for snowboarding apparel, it was found that the most preferred functions were those of listening to music and photo/video image-taking.

  • Dynamic Compressors in vocal recordings of modern pop music are essential equipment. Dynamic compressors are applied not only to the mix for listening to music but also to the monitor for the singer to listen to his voice along with the accompaniment while the singer is recording. This study is an experimental study on the effects of a dynamic compressor applied to a monitor environment on the vocal performance of a singer. 10 participating singers participated in the blind test to test how the vocals heard through the monitor would be affected by the 1:1, 2:1 and 4:1 compression ratio. Experimental results show that the higher the compression ratio applied to the monitor, the bigger the song, the brighter the tone, but the pitch becomes finer inaccuracy on the bigger dynamic part of the song. In post-interviews with blinds, it was found that singers generally preferred to hear compressed sound through a compressor on the monitor. Since the music used in the experiment was a ballad with a wide dynamic range, it could not be generalized to all kind of music recordings, but it could provide important implications for the monitoring of recording sites. In addition, We hope that the cognitive science approach to recording technology will be added based on this paper which has been studied through empirical studies on the effect of the monitor environment on the singing voice.

  • We examined the relationship between the basic characteristics and types of leisure activities according to blood types. It was based on questionnaires answered by 441 collegians in public health departments and 282 in non-public health departments in Daegu Health College in March, 2005. The frequency of leisure activity of once or twice a week or less during weekdays was the most common.: The most common frequencies for all blood types were between 1 and 2 hours on weekdays and between 3 and 5 hours on the weekends or holidays. As far as the type of leisure activities during the weekdays was concerned, in the case of public health departments, blood type A was interested in computer games and then watching TV, blood type B was attracted to watching TV and listening to music, blood type AB was into watching TV, computer games, and listening to music, and blood type O was keen on watching TV and computer games in that order. The type of leisure activity according to blood types in public health departments was shown to be significantly different (p<0.05). The type of future leisure activity was shown to be significantly different between public health departments and non-public health departments (p<0.05). The type of present leisure activity preferred by collegians, according to the study, was entertainment such as computer games for most blood types. The type of future leisure activities was related to the field of tourism and sports. The collegians need to have more advanced and positive leisure activities.

  • This study investigated how people who became blind midway through life used music and how these uses differed according to individual factors. Sixty-one late-blind adults aged 40 to 60 years attending six welfare centers for the blind in Seoul and Gyeonggi region participated in this research. Participants were asked to complete a 25-question survey in Braille on music utilization and preference, as well as the purpose of music utilization. The response rate was 87.1%. The results were as follows. First, with regard to listening preference, they reported preferring to listen to upbeat popular music on the radio when resting at home. They liked to sing along to lyrics reminiscent of personal memories. String instruments were preferred when playing an instrument. With regard to the reason for using music, inducing mood change was found to be the biggest reason, followed by seeking enjoyment, comfort, sense of achievement, and sense of belonging. Third, for people with adventitious visual impairments, individual factors, such as gender, level of disability, and period without eyesight, did not reveal any significant differences. Last, participants were found to obtain a higher sense of belonging through music compared to those having low vision. Regarding time without eyesight, it appeared that the shorter the period, the higher the sense of belonging participants had from utilizing music, and vice versa. This study provides fundamental information for organizing an effective music program that can meet the needs and demands of people with adventitious visual impairments.

  • A psychophysical measurement technique called "magnitude estimation" was used to evaluate several interior design alternatives for a high speed train. Pas- senger activity, seat direction, and passenger age were manipulated by using a three factor within-subjects experimental design. During the experiment, two dependent measures, a line length and a numerical estimate for each alternative design were collected to validate the experimental procedures. The results showed that pasnger seats arranged in the same direction as the running direction of the train was favored nine times more than the opposite. Also, the subjects preferred listening to music in a coach train to the other activities such as reading newspaper, watching a movie, and resting. This paper demonstrates that a psychophysical technique can be sued in the design of a development process, especially when it is difficult to quantify design variables such as subjective opinion or preference, etc.

  • This research was carried out to provide a good quality forest healing program as a basic source of development by researching the general characteristics of users of Geiji Mountain in North Jeolla Province, the recognition of forest healing and regional preference programs. As a result of the survey, Geigisan Mountain is used as a natural place for recreation and leisure of residents of Jeonju. The most important factors in the selection of forest healing programs for visitors were the activities, organization and chronology of the program, and the main purpose was to improve health. Week-by-week programs utilizing weekends were preferred for management of forest healing programs. It was revealed that sports programs prefer to enjoy natural scenery, forest experience programs, healing programs, forest therapy programs, meditation programs, and listening to forest music. The outcome of this study is expected to be used as a basic source for developing and researching a program for forest healing in the area of Mt. Meanwhile, the limit on the composition of suitable forest healing programs according to preference is required for continuous and continuous integrated study of the forest healing program for the future of the forest healing program.
