The purpose of this paper is to discover the Image and Visual Preference of the Environmental Sculpture in Urban Streetscape. For this, the analysis was preformed by the data obtained from questionnaires and from the photos of the environmental sculptures scene. The landscape image was analyzed by the factor analysis algorithm. The level of visual preference was measured by a slide simulation test, and this data was analyzed by multiple regression. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: The visual preference of the environmental sculpture has been evaluated to average 4.03 on a scale of 7 Landscape slides No. 11 and No.5 were ranked more highly for visual preference. Factors formulating the landscape image were found to be 'beauty', 'orderliness', 'emotion', and 'formation'. By using the control method for the number of factors, T.V., were obtained as 63.0%. For all experimental landscape slides, the factor of orderliness was found to be the main factor determining the visual preference. The 4 factors for visual preference were analyzed by regression as follows: Visual Preference = 3.996 + 0.341(FS1) + 0.595(FS2) + 0.222(FS3) + 0.011(FS4), R-Square = 0.520.

The open space of apartment complex has changed diversely according to construction periods which were divided into the introduction stage (the 1980s), the development stage (the 1990s), and the maturity stage (after 1999). This study set out to analyze the periodic changes of visual characteristics and preference with the open space of apartment complexes in Cheongju City. For analysis of visual characteristics and preference, nineteen adjectives that were determined to sufficiently express the feeling of the open space of apartment complex. The results are as follows. As for adjective image assessment by using descriptive statistics, favorable images were shown in complexes of maturity stage phase that were constructed after the liberalization of apartment sale in 1999. These results may be caused both by quantitative increase and diversification of materials in planting and landscaping furniture and by nature-friendly designing. The results of factor analysis by Varimax rotation method showed that common variance was 73.9%, which indicates higher explanation. The nineteen adjectives could be divided into three factors, 'pleasantness factor,' 'negative factor,' and 'irregular factor.' Visual preference was analysed by using Least significant Difference (LSD) by analysis of variance : complexes of maturity stage phase that were constructed according to the liberalization of apartment sale in 1999 were highest in assessment. The correlation between view preference and adjective images was analyzed by multiple regression analysis, and 'feeling like walking,' 'well-arranged,' 'beautiful,' 'friendly,' and 'clean' (in order) were adjective images that most affected the preference. As for the analysis of the correlation between visual preference and physical components of view, the preference increased as the rate of pavement and greens was higher, while it decreased as size of building was larger. Therefore, backgrounds of walking and greens had strong effects on the preference.

The visual preference of interiors focusing on lobbies was investigated as a function of six predictor variable on the base of the Informational Approach: complexity, coherence, mystery, spaciousness, brightness, plant. The Common Fcator Analysis of preference ratings yielded six common factors which helped to account for 22.3 percent of the variance in preference response to the scene. Among these factors, the factor defined as 'bright with many plants' was the most preferred and the factor defined as 'simple and closed' was the least preferred. The environmental attributes reflected in six groups of scenes were colour, resting place, window and the six predictors. In the commercial building scenes, complexity, spaciousness, coherence, brightness and mystery out of six predictors accounted for 74 percent of preference variance as the significant contributors. In the business building scenes, three predictors which are brightness, complexity, spaciousness accounted for 84 percent of preference variance. 'The amount of plant' not only influenced the preference indirectly through the intervening variable, complexity, but also was moderately correlated with brightness. The overall pattern of the resulted confirmed the usefulness of the Informational Approach to predict the preference in interiors focusing on lobbies.

The purpose of this study was to figure out visual character and preference of roadscape for the main entrance road in Chongju. We took 9.6km which was from the Chongju interchange of Kyungbu expressway to Sangdang park and was thought to have a peculiar characteristics. This main entrance road was seperated into 4 parts according to arranging patterns of roadside trees and buildings. To investigate the visual characters, the sementic differential scale experiment was used. The visual characters, the sementic differential scale experiment was used. The visual preference was examined by analyzing visual volume of 4 factors. The results of the study based on these analyses were as below : 1. Factors that compose the visual characters of roadscape were classified by the emotional factor, the individual factor and the physical factor. These 3 factors showed a64.14% total variance. Among 3 factors the emotional factor which represented psychological reaction was appreciated to be the highest and the physical factor was assessed to be the lowest. 2. 24 items in total 14 adjectives showed the following ranking of mean values in sementic differential experiment : Road I -->RoadIII-->RoadII-->RoadIV. The mean values between Road I and RoadIV showed a significant difference, which can be explained to be a contrast between the natural factor and the artificial factor. 3. The mean value of the visual preference was the highest at Road I and the lowest at Road IV. While Road II and Road III showed 3.51 and 4.71, respectively. 4. The effect of 4 factors on visual preference was analyzed by regression as follows : Visual preference =1.2983+0.0627 + 0.0230+0.0203, R-Square=0.5
This study is aimed at suggesting a plan for creating a landscape environment by grasping a landscape preference according to the change of middle span and sag ratio which is a consideration factor when designing the suspension bridge representing long-span bridges and image property of the bridge while applying SD method to a relation between landscape preference and image factor, and a connection of design element with image factor. An analysis on landscape preference about the bridge landscape showed from what the longer the length of middle span, the extent of sag ratio of preference decreased, the longer the middle span low sag ratio was preferred and the higher the landscape preference became. In landscape preference and image factor, the attribute of sag ratio with high landscape preference was all positively correlated with "stability", "plasticity", and "aesthetic" but an influence of "plasticity" was insignificant. In the relation between design element and image factor, the factor of middle span and sag ratio was more related to the factor of "stability" and the lower the sag ratio and the longer the middle span, the higher the "stability" was rated. This result showed the image property of "plasticity" was insignificant among the one of preference in landscape and to highlight the one of "plasticity" a complementary experiment was done with a change in balance and symmetry elements not in proportional element of middle span and sag ratio. The result showed the image property of "plasticity" was more highlighted in the suspension bridge of 3-tower and different bilateral symmetry at sag, and when designing the landscape of suspension bridge later on, the elements of balance and symmetry as well as the proportional element should be considered and reflected in the design.
