  • An innovative high-rise timber-concrete hybrid structure was proposed in previous research, which is composed of the concrete frame-tube structure and the prefabricated timber modules as main structure and substructures, respectively. Considering that the timber substructures are built on the concrete floors at a different height, the floor response spectrum is more effective in estimating the seismic response of substructures. In this paper, the floor response spectra of the hybrid structure with different structural parameters were calculated using dynamic time-history analysis. Firstly, one simplified model that can well predict the seismic response of the hybrid structure was proposed and validated. Then the construction site, the mass ratio and the frequency ratio of the main-sub structure, and the damping ratio of the substructures were discussed. The results demonstrate that the peaks of the floor response spectra usually occur near the vibration periods of the whole structure, among which the first two peaks stand out; In most cases, the acceleration amplification effect on substructures tends to be more evident when the construction site is farther from the fault rupture; On the other hand, the acceleration response of substructures can be effectively reduced with an appropriate increase in the mass ratio of the main-sub structure and the damping ratio of the substructures; However, the frequency ratio of the main-sub structure has no discernible effect on the floor response spectra. This study investigates the characteristics of the floor response spectrum of the novel timber-concrete structure, which supports the future applications of such hybrid structure in high-rise buildings.

  • The orbit has a very special anatomical structure. The complex anatomical structure should be restored when we encounter the patient with orbital wall fracture. Unless these specific anatomy were reconstructed well, the patient should suffer from various complications such enophthalmos, diplopia or orbital deformity. In addition, because the patient has a his own specific orbital shape, individualized approach will be necessary. The aim of this trial is to try to restore the original orbit anatomy as possible based on the mirrored three dimensional CT images based on the computer simulation. Preoperative computed tomography (CT) data were processed for the patient and a rapid prototyping (RP) model was produced. At the same time, the uninjured side was mirrored and superimposed onto the traumatized side, to create a mirror-image of the RP model. In order to restore the missing skipped images between the cuts of CT data because of the thinness of the orbital walls, we manipulated the DICOM data for imaging the original orbital contour using the preoperatively manufactured mirror-image of the RP model. And we fabricated Titanium-Medpor to reconstruct three-dimensional orbital structure intraoperatively. This prefabricated Titanium-Medpor was then inserted onto the defected orbital wall and fixed. Three dimensional approach based on the computer simulation turned out to be very successful in this patient. Individualized approach for each patient could be an ideal way to manage the traumatic patients in near future.

  • The bolted end-plate beam-column connections have been widely used in steel structure and composite structure because of its excellent seismic performance. In this paper, the end-plate bolted connection is applied in the concrete structure, A new-type of fabricated beam-column connections with end-plates is presented, and steel plate hoop is used to replace stirrups in the node core area. To study the seismic behavior of the joint, seven specimens are tested by pseudo-static test. The experimental results show that the new type of assembly node has good ductility and energy dissipation capacity. Besides, under the restraint effect of the high-strength stirrup, the width of the web crack is effectively controlled. In addition, based on the analysis of the factors affecting the shear capacity of the node core area, the formula of shear capacity of the core area of the node is proposed, and the theoretical values of the formula are consistent with the experimental value.

  • Grouting sleeves are an essential connecting component of prefabricated components, and the quality of grouting has a significant influence on structural integrity and seismic performance. The embedded grouting sleeve (EGS)'s grouting defects are highly undetectable and random, and no effective monitoring method exists. This paper proposes an ultrasonic guided wave method and provides a set of guidelines for selecting the optimal frequency and suitable period for the EGS. The optimal frequency was determined by considering the group velocity, wave structure, and wave attenuation of the selected mode. Guided waves are prone to multi-modality, modal conversion, energy leakage, and dispersion in the EGS, which is a multi-layer structure. Therefore, a time-reversal (TR)-based multi-mode focusing and dispersion automatic compensation technology is introduced to eliminate the multi-mode phase difference in the EGS. First, the influence of defects on guided waves is analyzed according to the TR coefficient. Second, two major types of damage indicators, namely, the time domain and the wavelet packet energy, are constructed according to the influence method. The constructed wavelet packet energy indicator is more sensitive to the changes of defecting than the conventional time-domain similarity indicator. Both numerical and experimental results show that the proposed method is feasible and beneficial for the detection and quantitative estimation of the grouting defects of the EGS.

  • This study examined the effect of various arrangement methods for forming peripheral closed hoops in the jacket section on the axial behavior of section enlargement strengthening columns. Four types of peripheral closed hoops arranged in the jacket section were prepared as follows: 1) Closed connection of prefabricated bar units (column P); 2) V-clip installation across the overlapped legs of channel-type bars (column V); 3) Use of glass fiber mesh for an alternative of steel bars (column F); and 4) combination of prefabricated bar units and glass fiber mesh (column PF). The V-clip is designed to form the closed hoops in the jacket section using the overlapped channel-type bars, preventing the opening of the channel bar legs. The glass fiber mesh is to examine the feasibility to apply for closed hoops in the jacket section as an alternative for steel bars, considering the easy construction. In the jacket section of all the strengthened columns, V-ties were arranged for supplementary ties, avoiding the interruption of the existing column. The axial stiffness and strength of the strengthened columns were insignificantly affected by the arrangement methods of closed hoops in the jacket section. The axial ductility ratio of the strengthened columns P, V, and PF was enhanced more than twice of that measured in the non-seismic existing column. However, the column F exhibited a lower ductility than the other strengthened columns because of the fracture of the mesh at the ultimate strength of the column. The V-clip approach was favorable to enhance the ductility of the strengthened column, preventing the opening of the legs of channel-type bars.

  • Reinforcing bars, a major component of the pre-fab structure, adheres to the existing on-site assembly method and attempts to develop and commercialize the technology of the pre-assembly method, but the effect is insignificant. Welded Wire / Bar Mat (WBM) has various advantages such as commercialization of rebar through machine manufacturing to improve workability, but it is different from the existing design and the construction method is different from the previous one. Therefore, to maximize the advantages of WBM and improve productivity, manufacturing, transportation, and construction from the design stage should be considered based on BIM from the initial design stage. In this paper, the concept of the design support system for the WBM was established based on the use of BIM in concrete reinforcement and the preliminary research on the WBM. WBM conversion design was performed for the existing prefabricated members, and based on this, the exchange format and system of the master prefabricated model with the WBM design data were set up. As a result of the pilot test, it was found that the traditional reinforcing bar information extracted from the master prefab model has transmitted 100% accurately. As for the WBM information, 100% of the information on the straight reinforcement was transmitted and represented, and the information on the bent reinforcement was found to have a 90% recall in the master BIM tool.

  • Steel frame-type retaining walls(SFRW) are constructed by on site bolting of prefabricated steel frames and internal filling of materials such as rocks with the size of 150-300mm. Easy & fast construction, superior drainage performance and structural performance to rigorous site conditions are some of the merits of applying the SFRW to various construction sites. After the development of the structural details, a test construction of SFRW, with the height of 6m and 30m in length, was carried out at an apartment site. After completion, several months of monitoring was carried out on the structure to check displacement, tilting, settlement, soil pressures and drainage characteristics. The results of the structural behavior of SFRW along with its construction methods are presented in the paper.
