  • Stable power source and fast control response are important for the generator excitation system. To stabilize the control of excitation circuit the PI controller for excitation current has been used. But the response of the system with this conventional control technique is very poor, especially in transient response with a predictive current control, the response of the excitation system can be improved. In this study, it is verified by the PSIM simulation.

  • Currently, the commonly used method for PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) Inverter of the Solar Power Plant. However, the limit of the developing performance to the non-linear and switch devices of the Inverter. Therefore, we propose a model predictive control techniques applied to Laguerre functions. LMPC(Laguerre functions model predictive control) reduces the number of computations made and so online implementation becomes possible where traditional MPC would have fail. In this paper, we comment on the appropriate scope and functions degree of the LMPC inverter control. The simulation results from MATLAB are also provided.

  • A novel algorithm is proposed to regulate the neutral point potential in neutral point clamped three-level inverters. Oscillations of the neutral point potential and an unbalanced dc-link voltage cause distortions of the output voltage. Large capacitors, which make the application costly and bulky, are needed to eliminate oscillations. Thus, the algorithm proposed in this paper utilizes the finite-control-set model predictive control and the multistage medium vector to solve these issues. The proposed strategy consists of a two-step prediction and a cost function to evaluate the selected multistage medium vector. Unlike the virtual vector method, the multistage medium vector is a mixture of the virtual vector and the original vector. In addition, its amplitude is variable. The neutral point current generated by it can be used to adjust the neutral point potential. When compared with the virtual vector method, the multistage medium vector contributes to decreasing the regulation time when the modulation index is high. The vectors are rearranged to cope with the variable switching frequency of the model predictive control. Simulation and experimental results verify the validity of the proposed strategy.

  • This paper deals with the application of a Generalized Predictive Control (CPC) to a Pressurized Water Reactor (P.W.R) Nuclear Power Plant. Generalized Predictive Control is a sort of Explicit Self-Tuning Control. Current self-tuning algorithms lack robustness to prior choices of either dead-time (input time delay of a plant) or model order. GPC is shown by simulation studies to be superior to accepted self-tuning techniques such as minimum variance and pole-placement from the viewpoint that it is robust to prior choices of dead-time or model order. In this paper a GPC controller is designed to control the P.W.R. nuclear power rlant with varying dead-time and through the designing procedure the designer is free from the constraint of knowing the exact dead-time. The controller is constructed based on the 2nd order linear model approximated in the vicinity of operating point. To ensure that this low-order model describes the complex real dynamics well enough for control purposes, model parameters are updated on-line with a Recursive Least Squares algorithm. Simulation results are successful and show the possibilities of the GPC control application to actual plants with varying or unknown dead-time.

  • This paper proposes a control method for three-phase voltage-source PWM converters using only a single current sensor in the DC link. A predictive current controller for the voltage-source PWM converter is used so that all phase currents can be reconstructed in a switching period although one or two of active vectors are applied only for a short time. Compensation of the 2 step delays is also included. In this paper single sensor current control using predictive state observer will be discussed, and investigated experimentally.

  • Finite-set predictive current control (FS-PCC) is advantageous for power converters due to its high dynamic performance and has received increasing interest in multilevel inverters. Among multilevel inverter topologies, the cascaded H-bridge (CHB) inverter is popular and mature in the industry. However, a main drawback of FS-PCC is its large computational burden, especially for the application of CHB inverters. In this paper, an FS-PCC method based on a deadbeat solution for three-phase zero-common-mode-voltage CHB inverters is proposed. In the proposed method, an inverse model of the load is utilized to calculate the reference voltage based on the reference current. In addition, a cost function is directly expressed in the terms of the voltage errors. An optimal control actuation is selected by minimizing the cost function. In the proposed method, only three instead of all of the control actuations are used for the calculations in one sampling period. This leads to a significant reduction in computations. The proposed method is tested on a three-phase 5-level CHB inverter. Simulation and experimental results show a very similar and comparable control performance from the proposed method compared with the traditional FS-PCC method which evaluates the cost function for all of the control actuations.

  • Steam generator level control at low power is difficult due to its adverse thermal hydraulic properties, and is usually conducted by an operator. The basic model predictive control (MPC) is similar to the action of an operator in that the operator knows the desired reference trajectory for a finite period of time and takes the necessary control actions needed to ensure the desired trajectory. An MPC is based on a model; the performance as well as the efficiency of the MPC depends heavily on the exactness of the model. In this study, steam generator models that can describe in detail its thermal hydraulic behaviors, particularly at low power, are used in the MPC design. The design scope is divided into two parts. First, the MPC feedwater controller of the feedwater station is determined, and then the MPC level controller for the overall system is designed. Because the dynamic properties of a steam generator change with the power levels, a realistic situation is simulated by changing the transfer functions of the steam generator at every time step. The resulting MPC controller shows good performance.

  • When the current of a power converter is controlled with a digital controller, it generally shows the error due to execution time delay. The error may be considerable in such systems as active power filters wherein the current varies steeply even in steady state, as well as in transients. Therefore, it is of particular importance to compensate the time delay effect in a digitally-controlled active power filter. This paper introduces a modification of so-called predictive current control, by taking the control time delay into consideration. The results of simulation and experiment with a 10 kVA active power filter prototype show considerable improvement in current tracking capability, validating the proposed current control method.

  • This paper proposes an effective model predictive current control (MPCC) that involves using 10 virtual voltage vectors to reduce the current harmonics and common-mode voltage (CMV) for a two-level five-phase voltage source inverter (VSI). In the proposed scheme, 10 virtual voltage vectors are included to reduce the CMV and low-order current harmonics. These virtual voltage vectors are employed as the input control set for the MPCC. Among the 10 virtual voltage vectors, two are applied throughout the whole sampling period to reduce current ripples. The two selected virtual voltage vectors are based on location information of the reference voltage vector, and their duration times are calculated using a simple algorithm. This significantly reduces the computational burden. Simulation and experimental results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
