The study is concerned with an approach to the design of a new category of fuzzy neural networks. The proposed Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks(FPNN) with hybrid multi-layer inference architecture is based on fuzzy neural networks(FNN) and polynomial neural networks(PNN) for model identification of complex and nonlinear systems. The one and the other are considered as premise and consequence part of FPNN respectively. We introduce two kinds of FPNN architectures, namely the generic and advanced types depending on the connection points (nodes) of the layer of FNN. Owing to the specific features of two combined architectures, it is possible to consider the nonlinear characteristics of process and to get output performance with superb predictive ability. The availability and feasibility of the FPNN is discussed and illustrated with the aid of two representative numerical examples. The results show that the proposed FPNN can produce the model with higher accuracy and predictive ability than any other method presented previously.

In this study, we introduce an advanced architecture of genetically optimized Hybrid Fuzzy Neural Networks (gHFNN) and develop a comprehensive design methodology supporting their construction. A series of numeric experiments is included to illustrate the performance of the networks. The construction of gHFNN exploits fundamental technologies of Computational Intelligence (CI), namely fuzzy sets, neural networks, and genetic algorithms (GAs). The architecture of the gHFNNs results from a synergistic usage of the genetic optimization-driven hybrid system generated by combining Fuzzy Neural Networks (FNN) with Polynomial Neural Networks (PNN). In this tandem, a FNN supports the formation of the premise part of the rule-based structure of the gHFNN. The consequence part of the gHFNN is designed using PNNs. We distinguish between two types of the linear fuzzy inference rule-based FNN structures showing how this taxonomy depends upon the type of a fuzzy partition of input variables. As to the consequence part of the gHFNN, the development of the PNN dwells on two general optimization mechanisms: the structural optimization is realized via GAs whereas in case of the parametric optimization we proceed with a standard least square method-based learning. To evaluate the performance of the gHFNN, the models are experimented with a representative numerical example. A comparative analysis demonstrates that the proposed gHFNN come with higher accuracy as well as superb predictive capabilities when comparing with other neurofuzzy models.

In this paper, we propose Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks(FPNN) based on Polynomial Neural Networks(PNN) and Fuzzy Neural Networks(FNN) for model identification of complex and nonlinear systems. The proposed FPNN is generated from the mutually combined structure of both FNN and PNN. The one and the other are considered as the premise part and consequence part of FPNN structure respectively. As the consequence part of FPNN, PNN is based on Group Method of Data Handling(GMDH) method and its structure is similar to Neural Networks. But the structure of PNN is not fixed like in conventional Neural Networks and self-organizing networks that can be generated. FPNN is available effectively for multi-input variables and high-order polynomial according to the combination of FNN with PNN. Accordingly it is possible to consider the nonlinearity characteristics of process and to get better output performance with superb predictive ability. As the premise part of FPNN, FNN uses both the simplified fuzzy inference as fuzzy inference method and error back-propagation algorithm as learning rule. The parameters such as parameters of membership functions, learning rates and momentum coefficients are adjusted using genetic algorithms. And we use two kinds of FNN structure according to the division method of fuzzy space of input variables. One is basic FNN structure and uses fuzzy input space divided by each separated input variable, the other is modified FNN structure and uses fuzzy input space divided by mutually combined input variables. In order to evaluate the performance of proposed models, we use the nonlinear function and traffic route choice process. The results show that the proposed FPNN can produce the model with higher accuracy and more robustness than any other method presented previously. And also performance index related to the approximation and prediction capabilities of model is evaluated and discussed.

In this study, we develop the very short-term precipitation forecasting model as well as classifier based on polynomial radial basis function neural networks by using AWS(Automatic Weather Station) and KLAPS(Korea Local Analysis and Prediction System) meteorological data. The polynomial-based radial basis function neural networks is designed to realize precipitation forecasting model as well as classifier. The structure of the proposed RBFNNs consists of three modules such as condition, conclusion, and inference phase. The input space of the condition phase is divided by using Fuzzy C-means(FCM) and the local area of the conclusion phase is represented as four types of polynomial functions. The coefficients of connection weights are estimated by weighted least square estimation(WLSE) for modeling as well as least square estimation(LSE) method for classifier. The final output of the inference phase is obtained through fuzzy inference method. The essential parameters of the proposed model and classifier such ad input variable, polynomial order type, the number of rules, and fuzzification coefficient are optimized by means of Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO) and Differential Evolution(DE). The performance of the proposed precipitation forecasting system is evaluated by using KLAPS meteorological data.

In this paper, we introduce a category of Multi-FNN (Fuzzy-Neural Networks) models, analyze the underlying architectures and propose a comprehensive identification framework. The proposed Multi-FNNs dwell on a concept of fuzzy rule-based FNNs based on HCM clustering and evolutionary fuzzy granulation, and exploit linear inference being treated as a generic inference mechanism. By this nature, this FNN model is geared toward capturing relationships between information granules known as fuzzy sets. The form of the information granules themselves (in particular their distribution and a type of membership function) becomes an important design feature of the FNN model contributing to its structural as well as parametric optimization. The identification environment uses clustering techniques (Hard C - Means, HCM) and exploits genetic optimization as a vehicle of global optimization. The global optimization is augmented by more refined gradient-based learning mechanisms such as standard back-propagation. The HCM algorithm, whose role is to carry out preprocessing of the process data for system modeling, is utilized to determine the structure of Multi-FNNs. The detailed parameters of the Multi-FNN (such as apexes of membership functions, learning rates and momentum coefficients) are adjusted using genetic algorithms. An aggregate performance index with a weighting factor is proposed in order to achieve a sound balance between approximation and generalization (predictive) abilities of the model. To evaluate the performance of the proposed model, two numeric data sets are experimented with. One is the numerical data coming from a description of a certain nonlinear function and the other is NOx emission process data from a gas turbine power plant.

Autonomous system (AS) business relationships and their inference have been widely studied by network researchers in the past. An important application of inferred AS relationships can be the prediction of AS paths between a source and destination AS within a model. However, besides knowing the topology and inferred AS relationships, AS path prediction within a model needs to be understood in order for us to know how we can derive border gateway protocol (BGP) policies from AS relationships. In this paper, we shed light onto the predictive capabilities of AS relationships by investigating whether they can be translated into BGP policies such that inferred AS paths are consistent with real AS paths, e.g., paths observed from BGP routing tables. Our findings indicate that enforcing constraints such as the well-known valley-free property and the widely assumed preference of customer routes always results in a very low consistency for AS path inference. In addition, this is true irrespective of whether customer, peer, or provider routes are preferred. Apparently, applying such constraints eliminates many "correct" paths that are observed in BGP routing tables and that are propagated in a simple shortest path model where AS relationships are ignored. According to our findings, deriving BGP routing policies for predicting with high accuracy AS paths in a model directly from AS relationships is still difficult.
A method of constructing a war simulation based on Bayesian Inference was proposed as a method of constructing heterogeneous historical war data obtained with a time difference into a single model. A method of applying a linear regression model can be considered as a method of predicting future battles by analyzing historical war results. However it is not appropriate for two heterogeneous types of historical data that reflect changes in the battlefield environment due to different times to be suitable as a single linear regression model and violation of the model's assumptions. To resolve these problems a Bayesian inference method was proposed to obtain a post-distribution by assuming the data from the previous era as a non-informative prior distribution and to infer the final posterior distribution by using it as a prior distribution to analyze the data obtained from the next era. Another advantage of the Bayesian inference method is that the results sampled by the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method can be used to infer posterior distribution or posterior predictive distribution reflecting uncertainty. In this way, it has the advantage of not only being able to utilize a variety of information rather than analyzing it with a classical linear regression model, but also continuing to update the model by reflecting additional data obtained in the future.

In this paper, we proposed a ventricular fibrillation detection algorithm based on wavelet transform and artificial neural network. we selected RR intervals, the 6th and 7th wavelet coefficients(D6, D7) as features for classifying ventricular fibrillation. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, we compared the result of the proposed algorithm with that of fuzzy inference and fuzzy-neural network. MIT-BIH Arrhythmia database, Creighton University Ventricular Tachyarrhythmia database and MIH-BIH Malignant Ventricular Arrhythmia database were used as test and learning data. Among the algorithms, the proposed algorithm showed that the classification rate of normal and abnormal beat was sensitivity(%) of 96.10 and predictive positive value(%) of 99.07, and that of ventricular fibrillation was sensitivity(%) of 99.45. Finally. the proposed algorithm showed good performance compared to two other methods.
In this paper, we investigate a Bayesian inference for software reliability models based on mean value functions which take the form of the mixture of beta distribution functions. The posterior simulation via the Markov chain Monte Carlo approach is used to produce estimates of posterior properties. Its applicability is illustrated with two real data sets. We compute the predictive distribution and the marginal likelihood of various models to compare the performance of them. The model comparison results show that the model based on the beta-mixture performs better than other models.

The performance of the speech recognition mainly depends on uncertain factors such as speaker's conditions and environmental effects. The present study deals with the speech recognition of a number of multi-syllable isolated Korean words using soft computing techniques such as back-propagation neural network, fuzzy inference system, and fuzzy neural network. Feature patterns for the speech recognition are analyzed with 12th order thirty frames that are normalized by the linear predictive coding and Cepstrums. Using four models of speech recognizer, actual experiments for both single-speakers and multiple-speakers are conducted. Through this study, the recognizers of combined fuzzy logic and back-propagation neural network and fuzzy neural network show the better performance in identifying the speech recognition.
