반용융 단조를 위한 소재의 유도 가열 (Induction Heating of a Billet for Semi-Solid Forging)

  • Semi-solid forging is a compound forging technology to deventional forging process. Among several steps of semi-solid forging process, the heating step of a billet prior to semi-solid forging step is necessarily required to obtain globular microstructure. For the forming operation to work properly, it is also important to heat the billet uniformly for the uniformity of solid-liquid distribution. To satisfy these requirements, induction heating has been generally used for a long time. This paper presents the method to find heating condition and the temperature distribution inside of a billet with a induction heating apparatus by comparing the computer simulation with experiment for aluminum alloys Al2024 and A356.

  • In this paper, the clamping type forging of helical gears has been investigated. Clamping type forging is an operation in which the product is constrained to extrude sideways through an orifice in the container wall. Punch is cylindrical shaped. The punch compresses a cylindrical billet placed in a die insert. As a consequence the material flows in a direction perpendicular to that of punch movement. The forging has been analysed by using the upper-bound method. A kinematically admissible velocity field has been developed, wherein, an involute curve has been introduced to represent tooth profile of the gear. Numerical calculations have been carried out to investigate the effects of various parameters, such as module, number of teeth, helix angle, friction factor and initial height of billet on the forging of helical gears.

  • This paper deals with a cold forging design system by which designers can determine desirable plans of cold forging design even if they have little experience. In this system, neural networks are used to transform qualitative knowledges to quantitative knowledges. The neural network is learned with three parts which are most important in cold forging design - undercut, narrow hole, sharp corner. The capabilities of the system are illustrated through an example of forging design.

트로코이드 기어의 단조 해석 (Analysis for forging of trochoidal gears)

  • This paper describes forging of trochoidal gears, which are being widely used in timing belt pulley, pump pulley etc., as a series of development of the simulator for non-axisymmetric elements. Kinematically admissible velocity fields for forging of trochoidal gear were proposed and the loads were calculated by numerical method. When the simulation was carried out, half pith of gear was divided into 6 deformation regions which have different velicity fields by assumptions and boundary conditions. The neutral surface was introduced into forging of trochoidal gears with flat punch and, for each step, it is assumed as a circle with its radius r$_{n}$. The experimental set-up was installed in 200 ton hydraulic press for forging. The billets, of A1 2218 aluminum alloy, were slightly phosphate-coated. It was shown that thd theoretical solutions, as upper bound, are useful to predict the forging load for forging of trochoidal gears, because thdt give estimates that are substantially higher than experimental loads.s.

  • A multi-step warm forging process for subminiature screws is investigated. Due to the low formability of Titanium alloys, bit forming of Titanium screws is difficult by cold forging. In order to overcome this low formability of Titanium alloys, two candidate processes, i.e., multi-step forging and warm forging are introduced. First, a multi-step (two-step) forging process is investigated. The punch shape and stroke of forging during the first step is designed via various analyses. Finally, the bit formability is investigated at different forging temperatures. Analyses are carried out for two-step forging at various temperatures and the formability under these thermal conditions is compared.

  • This article mainly introduces the research of closed forging on 20MN hot die forging presses. After transforming of the equipments, optimizing of die design and improving of die-manufacturing precision, gear blanks used in car gearbox have been forged out without fins successfully.
