  • The purpose of this study is to categorize specific factors and characteristics of positive science experience by qualitatively analyzing the positive science experience cases in the memories of pre-service elementary school teachers. For this purpose, 101 essays written by pre-service teachers on the theme of 'my enjoyable science class experience' were analyzed. The collected data were analyzed using an inductive analysis method, and as a result, the characteristics of positive science experience cases in the memories of pre-service teachers were categorized into 4 categories and 12 topic groups. Specifically, 'experience of exploratory activities using special materials', such as long-term raising and observation of animals and plants, experiments using edible materials, and using special experimental tools had a positive effect on scientific experience. In addition, 'experience of activities emphasizing scientific inquiry' such as emphasizing observation activities, experiments accompanied by clear experimental results, making activities, and using various materials also had a positive effect on science experience. In addition, 'student-centered activity experience' such as strengthening student autonomy, emphasizing collaboration between students, and performing science activities outside of the curriculum also had a positive influence on the science experience. Lastly, 'positive influence of teachers', such as teachers' encouragement and enthusiasm, helped to positively recognize science.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and validate future teacher competencies diagnosis tools required for pre-service teachers. In this study, the hypothesis model was established by hierarchizing basic competency and job competency in three dimensions such as knowledge, practice, and personality as teachers' competencies required in future society. Based on this hypothesis model, 54 preliminary questions were developed, and competencies diagnosis test was conducted for 237 pre-service teachers in J area, Korea. The results of this study are as follows: First, as a result of this study, a total of 53 questions were extracted, including 18 questions with 6 factors in the knowledge dimension, 17 questions with 6 factors in the practice dimension, and 18 questions with 6 factors in the personality dimension. Second, the goodness-of-fit of future teacher competencies diagnosis model required was verified, and convergence and discriminant validity were verified. The results of this study were discussed. Finally, the implications and suggestions for further research were presented.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the knowledge level about ADHD in 207 of J and W universities special education students in Gyeonggi and Jeolla provinces. Data were gathered by using a survey method. To analyze data, statistical methods such as ANOVA and t-test were used. The results show the highest rate of correct answers in 'progress and treatment of ADHD' and the lowest rate of 'knowledge in the cause of ADHD'. The level of knowledge about ADHD is found to be different among the groups according to grade, major, experience with ADHD children and experience of taking related ADHD courses. On the other hand, the level of knowledge about ADHD don't differ according to gender and educational practice. Based on the results of this study, we discuss the necessity of acquiring knowledge about ADHD for pre-service special teachers and how to improve their teaching program for ADHD children.

  • This paper introduces a fundamental investigation into the establishment of a framework for integrating fieldwork into special education teacher preparation programs. This paper introduces a comprehensive framework for the implementation of semester-based practicum systems in special education teacher training programs. The paper delineates essential stages including preparation, adaptation, responsibility readiness, mutual responsibility, and evaluation, emphasizing the importance of collaboration, hands-on training, and feedback interactions. Moreover, the study delves into practical learning frameworks such as the Experiential Learning Model, Sociocultural Theory, and the Apprenticeship of Observation Model. It highlights their significance in connecting theoretical concepts with practical applications and in cultivating reflective practices among pre-service special education teachers. Moreover, the study explores two significant practicum models, namely the Class-Academy Model and the Professional Development Schools (PDS) Model, examining their elements, advantages, and impacts on teacher education programs. The paper provides valuable insights into improving the preparation of special education teachers by incorporating structured practicum experiences and innovative models that blend theoretical knowledge with practical application.

  • This study aims to investigate development directions for smart contents to support enhancing adaptive behavior skills of children with autistic disorder in elementary school. AHP survey of experts including special education teachers and directors in educational institution for disability children was performed to analyze importance weight for smart contents development necessity and effectiveness in adaptive behavior skills. And the smart contents development suitability through pre-discussion for idea generation for various development method and AHP survey with smart application development experts was evaluated. The results show that the effective and suitable adaptive behavior skills for smart contents development were understanding of languaging, time management and keeping, movement skills, wearing clothes, and personal hygiene in order of importance. Based on this study, education authorities should make an effort not to develop fragmentary educational smart contents but to support development of smart contents and service systems with better effectiveness and usability to meet demand for special education teachers and parents considering characteristics of children with autism.

  • In this study, the trend of research and practice of science education for students with special educational needs was discussed in consideration of the aim of science education. Since the 1980s 'science for all' has been suggested as an important goal of science education and it has been pursued in the National Curriculum of Korea with differentiated teaching and learning approach. The meaning of 'science for all' should be expanded to science education for all students including minorities. However, comparing to 'normal' students, there have been relatively little researches and practices for those who need special educational supports as to meet their special talents or as to meet their special mental or physical challenges. Especially, the efforts for handicapped students or students with special educational needs (SEN) have been deficient in comparison to that of talented or gifted students. In this study the authors introduced the history and procedures of a 'Science Fair of Hope' with SEN students as an example of practice of science education for all, and then described the change among pre-service science teachers' attitudes towards disability and inclusive education, so as to discuss the practice and significance of science education for all students including SEN students.

  • This study aims to analyze the visual modeling process of pre-service elementary teachers on the reflection of light. The analytical framework was developed from three aspects; coherence, correspondence, and commensurability of the modeling thinking proposed by Halloun (2004). 20 pre-service elementary teachers participated and were randomly paired to observe the reflection of light. They were asked to construct the visual model individually at first and then collaboratively. Comparing personal and cooperative models, the level of correspondence and commensurability in some groups has increased, despite the lack of special educational treatment. In addition, three main features were found in their reasoning process. First, the level of commensurability to apply the law of reflection continued to change fluidly depending on the circumstances and often the verbal and visual explanations did not match. Second, in the process of visual modeling, correspondence was often given priority over commensurability and coherence. Third, in a situation where correspondence and commensurability are at odds with each other, participants resolved this conflict and developed reasoning through review and revision of the auxiliary hypothesis. Several implications have been discussed for effectively guiding visual modeling activities.

  • As a result of introducing robot assisted learning which utilizes social robots or telepresence robots in language learning or special education, research on technology acceptance model for robot-assisted learning is also being conducted. The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model of intelligent robot has been studied, but of tele-operated robot is insufficient. The purpose of this paper is to estimate the UTAUT model by pre-service teachers who experienced telepresence robot-assisted learning that can be done in future school. It is found that the estimated UTAUT model consists of more concise factors than social robots, and the importance of perceived enjoyment is higher. In other words, the pre-service teachers showed significant acceptance of tele-operated robots with enhanced enjoyment composed of its mobility, communication, and touchable appearance of the face and body.
