Fabrication of Activated Alumina Using Aluminum Hydroxide by a Hydrothermal Process (수산화알루미늄으로부터 수열법을 이용한 활성 알루미나 제조에 관한 연구)

  • Activated alumina was fabricated with aluminum hydroxide in this study. High-purity alumina gel and boehmite were prepared from aluminum hydroxide by a hydrothermal process and fired to activate alumina having a surface area of 380 ~ 480 $m^2/g$ with less loss of ignition. The aging and drying condition during the fabrication process affected the loss of ignition, the sedimentation time of the alumina suspension, as well as the surface area of the activated alumina. For pellet-type activated alumina, the pre-fired alumina gel and boehmite were press-formed and fired at $400^{\circ}C$ and $550^{\circ}C$ for 6 h, respectively. The fired pellets showed a low density of 2.0 ~ 2.2 $g/cm^3$ with 20% firing shrinkage and sufficient handling strength. In this study, a new fabrication process for high-quality activated alumina with aluminum hydroxide is introduced. The effects of the processing parameters on the activated alumina properties are also examined.

Study on Process Parameters of a SU-8 Resin in Two-photon Streolithography for the Fabrication of Robust Three-dimensional Microstructures (SU-8 레진을 이용한 이광자 흡수 광조형 공정에서 고강성 3 차원 마이크로 형상 제작을 위한 공정 변수 분석)

  • Two-photon stereolithography (TPS) is recognized as a useful process for the fabrication of three-dimensional microstructures. Recently, the need for a two-photon curable resin with high strength increases as 3-D moicrostructures of high aspect ratio or large scale of several hundreds micrometers are required for applications of nano/micro devices in IT/BT. In this work, process parameters of TPS employing the SU-8 which is a representative two-photon curable resin with high strength have been studied for the precise fabrication of 3-D microstructures with high strength. The pre-baking and post-baking processes are studied and the parameter study of the SU-8 in TPS is conducted. Through this work, very small roughness of 12 nm and the minimum aspect ratio of ${\sim}1$ which provides a precise accumulation of layers could be obtained. Using the conditions studied in this work, some 3-D examples are fabricated.

Incomplete fabrication effects on represtressing preflex girders encased in concrete

  • In the current study, ordinary design of Represstessed Pre-Flex (RPF) girder by classical beam theory and numerical model taking buckled shape into consideration were compared with field-survey data to find imperfections on the RPF girder before prestressing and after preflexion. It should be noted that the ordinary design do not consider deformed shape of steel girder in RPF beam. The deformed shapes of steel girder due to the incomplete fabrication that could be caused by self-weight, preflexion misalignment, existence of lateral bracing at mid-span and stiffness of reaction frame were found using a newly developed model which was verified against a deformation survey conducted on actual RPF girder in the field. The final observed deformed shapes of RPF after concrete shrinkage and before prestressing were classified into W, C and Unsymmetric shapes in regard to both survey and analytical results. The deformation survey showed negligible amount of unwanted deformation compared to the large size of the RPF girders. The shallower width of the bottom flange of steel girder caused amount of lateral torsional buckling under self-weight and preflexion thereby affecting the unwanted final overall shape of the RPF girders. However, it was found that the unwanted deformation of RPF girders by fabrication errors even though it is negligible compared to the size of the girder, caused unsymmetrical stress contours in concrete and additional tensile stress and raise some safety issues.

The Application of the Welding Joint Tracking System (용접 이음 추적시스템의 응용)

  • Welding fabrication invariantly involves three district sequential steps: preparation, actual process execution and post-weld inspection. One of the major problems in automating these steps and developing autonomous welding systems, is the lack of proper sensing strategies. Conventionally, machine vision is used in robotic arc welding only for the correction of pre-taught welding paths in single pass. In this paper, novel presented, developed vision processing techniques are detailed, and their application in welding fabrication is covered. The software for joint tracking system is finally proposed.

Fabrication of Micro-channels for Wave-Micropump Using Stereolithography and UV Photolithography (광조형법과 UV 포토리소그래피를 이용한 웨이브 마이크로펌프 미세 채널 제작)

  • Micro-channels for a wave micropump have been fabricated using the Stereolithography and UV Photolithography. The micro-channel with a channel height of $500\;{\mu}m$ was fabricated with stereolithography. UV photolithography was used for producing micro-channels with a channel length less than $100\;{\mu}m$. The fabrication process data including spinning rpm, pre-bake and post-bake time, and develop time for single layer and multiple layer 3D micro-structures using SU-8 photo resist are experimentally found. A film mask printed with a 40,000 dpi laser printer was used for UV lithography and micro-structures in the order of tens of micrometers in dimension were successfully fabricated.

  • A simple method is presented for fabricating micro/nanoscale combined hierarchical structures using a two-step UV-assisted capillary molding technique. This lithographic method consists of two steps: (i) fabrication of partially cured polymer microstructures using a PDMS mold and (ii) subsequent nanofabrication using a high-resolution polyurethane acrylate (PUA) mold on top of the pre-formed microstructures. Using this technique, various micro/nano hierarchical structures were fabricated with minimum resolution down to 70 nm over a large area with very good reproducibility.

  • The effects of slip composition and processing conditions on the fabrication of ceramic heat exchanger cores by doctor blade process were investigated. Since the effects of those two variables were inter-dependent, the effects of binder system, binder plus plasticizer, were extensively studied for a limited range of processing conditions and a pre-determined ceramic composition. The content of binder system and the ratio of binder to plasticizer were identified as main variables to affect densities and mechanical properties of green sheets, compressive properties and bond strengths of laminates, and shrinkages and their anisotropy of sintered laminates. However, sintered densities and water absorptions of laminates were not influenced by either the content of binder system or the ratio of binder to plasticizer, when the debinded laminates had a relatively high density (relative density of >55% in this study).

  • Ceramic green sheets consisting Bi-based glass frit were fabricated for an application to PDP transparent dielectric front panel. The dispersion condition of the slurry for tape casting was pre-examined, and two kinds of hinder and plasticizer were used in the non-aqueous slurry system. In the fabrication process for the frit film, the properties such as dry and firing shrinkage, elongation, and transmittance were examined at the condition of various mixing ratio of plasticizers. In the mixing ratio of polyethylene glycol to dibutyl phthalate of 3:5wt%, a good adhesion, elongation and transmittance were observed at the firing temperature of $580^{\circ}C$. The photograph for the cross section of the interface was also showed a dense microstructure.

CIGS Thin Film Fabrication Using Spray Deposition Technique (스프레이 분무법을 이용한 CIGS 태양전지 박막의 합성)

  • We have prepared CIGS thin film absorber layers with simple solution spray deposition technique and thin film were synthesized with different atomic ratio. CIGS thin films were synthesized using non-vacuum solution deposition method on pre-heated sodalime glass substrates and Mo-coated soadlime glass substrate. In precursor solution were Cu : In : Ga: S ratio 4 : 3 : 2 : 8 and the crystal type of sprayed thin film were CIGS chalcopyrite structures. This structure was identified as typical chalcopyrite tetragonal structure with XRD analysis. This result showed that CIGS solution deposition technique has potential for the one step synthesis and low cost fabrication process for CIS or CIGS thin film absorber layer.

The Multipass Joint Tracking System by Vision Sensor (비전센서를 이용한 다층 용접선 추적 시스템)

One of the major problems in automating these steps and developing autonomous welding system is the lack of proper sensing strategies. Conventionally, machine vision is used in robotic arc welding only for the correction of pre-taught welding paths in single pass. However, in this paper, multipass tracking more than single pass tracking is performed by conventional seam tracking algorithm and developed one. And tracking performances of two algorithm are compared in multipass tracking. As the result, tracking performance in multi-pass welding shows superior conventional seam tracking algorithm to developed one.
