  • The purpose of this study was to examine mother's child rearing practices by mothers of their first-born child as a function of child's sex, temperament, and social class and of mother's marital satisfaction. The subjects were 158 mothers of 3-year-old first-born children in Seoul. Block (1984)'s CRPR, Buss and Plomin (1975)'s EAS, and Roach et al.'s MSS (1981) were used to measure maternal child rearing practices, children's temperament, and mother's marital satisfaction, respectively. The statistical methods for data analysis included t-test, ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, multiple regression. The major findings showed there were no sex of child differences in child rearing practices. Social class differences were found in "encouragement of independence", "enjoyment of child" and "openness to experience" in maternal child rearing practices. There were differences in maternal child rearing practices by child's temperament and mother's marital satisfaction. In a multiple regression analysis, it was found that the most significant predictor of maternal child rearing practices was mother's marital satisfaction.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify how characteristics of children, parents, family, and the extra context relate to disciplinary practices and to examine the cumulative effects of positive variables on effective disciplinary practices of employed and unemployed mothers. Disciplinary practices of both employed and unemployed mothers were correlated with number of child, husband support, parenting stress, social support, quality of life, and satisfaction of early childhood program. Parenting stress was the strongest predictor of disciplinary practices for both employed and unemployed mothers. Both employed and unemployed mothers exposed to several positive variables were more likely to exhibit effective disciplinary practices than mothers who were not.

  • The extent to which farmers use the recommended husbandry practices by farmers raising goats in southern Thailand was investigated. Base-line data was collected by interviewing 297 farmers and the constraints to the use of recommended husbandry practices were examined for these farmers in the Chana district, Songkhla province of southern Thailand. The number of farmers using the various recommended husbandry practices was low. An extension program is needed to encourage the use of recommended goat husbandry practices in target areas of southern Thailand to provide a better understanding of the most effective goat husbandry practices.

  • The research question in this study was to see whether there were similarities and differences in HR practices of IT-based companies in Korea. Interviews with 12 HR executives and a survey of 51 IT-based companies showed that there were IT industry-specific HR practices, but no group differences except one. The only one difference between two groups (small- and medium-sized firms versus multinational corporations) indicated that the latter was better positioned in various HR practices. Four HR themes emerged from analyses of interviews and a survey data: business environment, workforce management, HR practices, and HR for competitive advantage. The fact that none from large companies was found to have female HR executive calls for an in-depth study of what is occurring and what could be done to better the workplace in terms of diversity. A large-scale study using diverse methods in the future will produce more meaningful findings on HR practices in IT-based firms in Korea.

  • This study aims to explore the variable factors by which fathers affect nursing practices. for this study 544 married couples were interviewed, which resulted in the following conclusions. First, wives have higher fairness than husbands in sharing their parental roles. Second, in some couples, there was a difference seen in the expectations of each parents nursing capability, but rarely were differences in real nursing practices actually observed. Third, all couples interviewed showed some disparity between their expectations of parental nursing capability and their real nursing practices, where the expectations for nursing capability were higher than the real nursing practices. Fourth, higher expectations for nursing capabilities from fathers result in them having better parental roles. Fifth, there is no correlation between parental nursing practices and social demographic variables. Lastly, the impacts on the parental nursing practices are ranked by relative importance as parental nursing capability, the wife's expectation for parental nursing capability and so on.

Parental satisfaction was also found to have an effect on parenting practices. In addition, childhood attachment had an effect on parental satisfaction. It was further found that parental satisfaction mediated the relationship between childhood attachment and parenting practices very well. • The purpose of this study was to identify which of the variables were associated with ineffective parental child-rearing practices and to examine the effects of cumulative risk factors on ineffective child-rearing practices. The subjects for this study consisted of 120 mothers and 120 fathers of two to six year old children attending a university child development laboratories. Self-report questionnaire were used to collect data on the following variables: 1) family backgrojnd characteristics; 2) child temperament; 3) quality of life; 4) social support; 5) intergenerational trasmission of parenting; and 6) parental disciplinary practices. Descriptive analysis, t-test, and chi-square analyses were used for data description and analysis. The major findings were as follows: 1) Mothers who perceived the child as being less emotional, more soothable, and who had higher levels of marital satisfaction and job satisfaction engaged in more effective child-rearing practices. 2) Fathers who perceived the child as being less emotional, and who have boys provided more effective child-rearing practices. 3) For both mothers and fathers, parents with higher levels of quality life, social support, and family income exhibited more effective child-rearing practices. 4) Parents exposed to several risk factors were much more likely to exhibit ineffective child-rearing practices than parents exposed to no risk factors. • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate if companies' efforts of environmental management practices have positive effect on the companies' performance in the first stage of study. In the second stage, we tried to confirm whether the degree of companies' making efforts on cost leadership strategy and quality leadership strategy function as moderate variable on relationship between environmental management practices and performance. Methods: The collected data through survey were analysed using multiple regression model in the first stage of the study and moderate regression model in the second. Results: The results of this study are as follows; environmental management practices have positive effect on corporate performance. Moreover, much effort on quality leadership strategy has limited significant moderate effect on relationship between environmental management practices and performance, while much effort by companies on cost leadership strategy does not have significant moderate effect on the relationship between the two variables. Conclusion: Manufacturing and services companies in Korea need to make effort for environmental management practices to improve corporate performance. Moreover, if that efforts are combined with quality leadership strategy, they can expect synergy effect with environmental management practices for performance improvement.
