  • The nuclear power plant construction project is large-scale, has various stakeholders and computer system, and is produced and managed a large amount of information. The domestic nuclear power plant construction project has accumulated data based on many years of experience in the system. It has the competitiveness to suggeest alternatives that meet the requirement of the client in the overseas nuclear power plant project. Earned value management, which integrates schedule and cost, is possible to risk management. It was developed the earned value management system considering the the actual data properties and types of the preceding nuclear power plant construction projects. It will be able to increase the nuclaer power plant export competieiveness. Therefore, it was palned to carry out future stuies so that it be able to complement the measure to integrate cost and schedule in consideration of actual data(quantity of activity, etc.).

  • This paper describes the test results of plant minimum stable load (Pmin) for Ilijan Power Plant. The test was conducted on May 13 through 14, 2015 to investigate the plant operating and equipment condition in accordance with "Ilijan Plant Performance Test Procedure on Plant Minimum Stable Load" [1]. This paper also contains the assessment of the impact of Pmin to plant operating parameters and possible technical operating issues when operating at lower loads and to recommend the safe minimum load operation of Ilijan per block. In addition, this paper describes the performance calculation results of efficiency and heat rate depending on the load level.

  • Capturing the carbon dioxide emitted from coal-fired power plants will be necessary if targeted reduction in carbon emissions is to be achieved. Modelling and simulation are the base for optimal operation and control in thermal power plant and also play an important role in energy savings. This study aims to analyze the performance of supercritical coal fired power plant through steady and dynamic simulation using a commercial software gCCS. A whole power plant has been modeled and validated with design data of 500 MWe power plant, base and part load operations of the plant were also evaluated, consequently it had been proven that the simulated result had a good agreement with actual operating data. In addition, the effect of co-firng on the plant efficiency and flue gases were investigated using gCCS simulator.

  • Generally, a coolant of the nuclear power plant is manufactured by electrolyzing the sea water near the plant for making the sodium hypochlorite(NaOCl), which is used for sterilizing the bacteria and the shellfishes sticking to the drains or the pumps at the outlet of the cooling system due to $8-10^{\circ}C$ warmer temperature than the inlet sea water. During manufacturing the sodium hypochlorite, the hydrogen with the high purity is also produced at the anode side of the electrolyzer. This paper describes a novel power plant system combined with the polymer electrolyte membrane(PEM) fuel cell, the wasted hydrogen from the sea water electrolyzer and the wasted heat of the nuclear power plant. The present status over the exhausted hydrogen at twenty nuclear power plants in Korea was investigated in this study, from which an available power generation is estimated. Furthermore, the economic feasibility of the PEM fuel cell power plant is also evaluated by a current regulations over the power production and exchange using a renewable energy shown in Korea Power Exchange(KRX).

시화호 조력발전소 신설에 따른 전력계통 특성 및 경제적 이득 분석 (A Study on Power System Characteristics and Economic Benefit by Operating the New SIHWA Tidal Power Plant)

  • This paper presents the various analysis of the power system for operating the new SIHWA tidal power plant. In the analysis of the power system, summer load condition of 2011 is used. Especially, power flow, fault current, voltage and contingency of SIHWA tidal power plant area are analyzed by using PSS/E and there is no problem for the dynamic stability simulation. The new SIHWA tidal power plant is located in near metropolitan area where about 43% amount of the system load is consumed. Therefore, transmission losses are reduced. In addition, system marginal price can be lowered by generating the new SIHWA tidal power plant. The generation pattern of the SIHWA tidal plant is analyzed and the changes of generation are presented for various water levels by control of the rotor angle alpha and beta in water wheel generator.

  • 음향방출기술(acoustic emission technology)은 종래의 기존 비파괴검사법과는 달리 가동중인 설비의 건전성을 평가할 수 있으며 실시간으로 설비 상태의 진단이 가능한 실시간 감시기법이다. 즉 기존 비파괴검사법과는 달리 가동중인 설비에 대해 원격으로 결함을 탐지하고 결함 위치를 판정할 수 있는 연속감시 기능을 가진 비파괴 신기술로 최근 연구개발이 활발히 진행되고 있는 방법이다. 이러한 장점 때문에 대형 산업설비의 각종 기기들에 대한 감시 및 진단에 활용하고 있으며, 그 활용도가 점점 확대되고 있는 추세에 있다. 특히 종합적인 산업설비로 구성되어 있는 발전설비의 진단과 감시에 가장 효과적인 방법이라 할 수 있겠다. 본 논문에서는 원자력 화력 수력발전소 등의 발전설비에 대해 현재 적용중인 음향방출기술과 새로운 적용기술에 대해 서술하였다.

  • KEPCO Research Center is carrying out a simulator(full scope replica type) development project for two nuclear power plants(Kori-2, Younggwang-3,4) and one fossil power plant(Poryong-3,4). In this project, we aim not only the installation of high performance simulators at the power plant sites but also the realization of self reliance of power plant simulation technology in Korea. In the course of preparing procurement specification for the 3 simulators, the present status of power plant simulation technology has been surveyed and is presented in this paper. The fidelity of simulation and the automation of simulation model production has been greatly improved due to the ever increasing computing power of today's workstations. The need and importance of the application of high fidelity simulators to the operator training is refocused since the accident at TMI Nuclear Power Plant, U.S.A.

  • There are lots of disturbance in the super heater temperature control system of power plant boiler as follows. 1.Burner light off. 2.Excess Air. 3.Burner tilt. 4.G.R fan flow. Temperature control system of super heater in the power plant has delay time about 5 min. So it is difficult to control the super heater temperature in the power plant. This paper show us the application of domestic development DCS to control the super heater temperature in seoul #5 thermal power plant unit.

Preventing cascading failure of electric power protection systems in nuclear power plant

  • Cascading failure is the main cause of large blackouts in electrical power systems; this paper analyzes a cascading failure in Hanbit nuclear power plant unit two (2) caused by a circuit breaker (CB) operation failure. This malfunction has been expanded to the loss of offsite power (LOOP). In this study, current practices are reviewed and then the methodologies of how to prevent cascading failures in protection power systems are introduced. An overview on the implementation of IEC61850 GOOSE messaging-based zone selective interlocking (ZSI) scheme as key solution is proposed. In consideration of ZSI blocking time, all influencing factors such as circuit breaker opening time, relay I/O response time and messages travelling time in the communication network should be taken into account. The purpose of this paper is to elaborate on the effect of cascading failure in NPP electrical power protection system and propose preventive actions for this failures. Finally, the expected advantages and challenges are elaborated.
