  • Electricity Market in Korea can't provide locational price signal through energy price because energy market is CBP(Cost Based Pool) using uniform price. Generators don't want to locate in a densely populated load area(like the metropolitan area). Because they are paid more fixed cost in metropolitan area. This situation has loss and congestion occurred in power system. However energy market without price signal can't lead generator to the metropolitan. So, market participants should be provided price signal through the transmission price instead of energy price. This paper proposes transmission pricing method considering reliability cost in order to offer price signal. Also, it proposes the method to allocate the transmission cost to each transmission line user through a fair and a reasonable manner. The transmission price is decided by the reliability value of each line. If a transmission line of high reliability value is broke, users using that line will get a loss and a discomfort. So, it is fair that users using a transmission line of high reliability value pay more than the other users. Also, it is reasonable that a transmission line owner get paid more form users using that line.

  • In this paper, the radiative electric field intensity due to the communication signal and conductive noise is calculated in overhead medium voltage power lines for power line communication. The input impedance is calculated by means of 2 port equivalent model of medium voltage power line network and basic transmission line theory. And then, currents is calculated by calculated input impedance and finally, the emissive electric field is calculated. The input impedance appears like a standing wave form with a fixed cycle because high reflection at the input terminal due to the characteristic impedance of medium voltage power line is very large. A calculated current and radiative electric field also appears like this form. From the measurement results, the measured results are very similar to the calculated results.

  • This paper proposes a transmission algorithm that optimizes transmission power and sub-channel allocation to maximize energy efficiency considering characteristics of the channel impedance of power lines in power line communication systems. Since the received power at the receiver is influenced by the characteristics of the power line channel, it is necessary to consider channel characteristics when developing a transmission strategy in a power line communication systems. In addition, the energy efficiency should be optimized while meeting the practical constraints, such as the maximum transmission power limit of the transmitter and minimum quality of service for each user. In the computer simulation, we confirm that the energy efficiency of the proposed algorithm is improved compared to baseline schemes.

  • UWB(ultra wide band) communication systems employ short pulses to transmit information which spreads the signal energy over a very wide frequency spectrum. Received signal-to-noise power ratio of UWB signals is an important factor in determining the accuracy of a positioning system. As the signal to noise power ratio gets higher, positioning errors decrease since noise becomes less effective. Calculation of signal to noise power ratio as a function of communication distance provides important guidelines for the system design. And the performance of a positioning system also depends heavily on the channel model. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the performance of the received signal to noise power ratio according to the communication distance was better in the LOS channel environment than in the Non LOS(line of sight) channel environment. And as the symbol interval of the preamble signal increases at a specific communication distance, the channel capacity of the UWB system increases.

  • This thesis is about power line communication(PLC) over the low voltage grid. The main advantage with power line communication is the use of an existing infrastructure. The PLC channel can be modeled as having multi-path propagation with frequency-selective fading, typical power lines exhibit signal attenuation increasing with length and frequency. OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is a modulation technique where multiple low data rate carriers are combined by a transmitter to form a composite high data rate transmission. To implement the multiple carrier scheme using a bank of parallel modulators would not be very efficient in analog hardware. Each carrier in an OFDM is a sinusoid with a frequency that is an integer multiple of a base or fundamental sinusoid frequency. Therefore, each carrier is a like a Fourier series component of the composite signal. In fact, it will be shown later that an OFDM signal is created in the frequency domain, and then transformed into the time domain via the Discrete Fourier Transform(DFT).

  • Developing fault location system for underground power cable which can detect its fault location exactly require very high speed data acquisition and signal processing capability. We are developing fault location system which is different from conventional fault locator. This fault location system monitor underground power cable by using on-line speed current sensor and if there are an accident, it record its transient signal and calculate fault location by analyzing it. Signals which acquired when power cable fault arise, showed transient characteristics and its frequency band is very hish. So, to develop fault location system, we designed special high speed data acquisition and signal processing board. In this thesis, we describe on data acquisition and signal processing H/W design for fault location system on underground power cable.

  • New power factor correction(PFC) technique based on the averaged model of boost converter is proposed. Without measurement of input current, power factor correction scheme derived from the averaged model is presented. With the measurements of input voltage and output voltage, the control signal is generated to make the shape of the line current same as the input voltage. The characteristics of input line current distortion is analyzed by considering the generation of duty cycle.

  • A 180-GHz signal source based on a 65-nm CMOS technology has been developed in this study. The 180-GHz signal source consists of a 90-GHz fundamental-mode Colpitts oscillator and a 180-GHz frequency doubler. A coupled-line is employed to couple two oscillator cores for generating a differential signal, which is delivered to the input of the differential-mode doubler. The fabricated signal source operates from 181.2 to 182.4 GHz with output power varying from -15.3 to -10.8 dBm. The peak output power was -10.53 dBm at 181.3 GHz with a DC power consumption of 42 mW, and the associated phase noise was -71 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset.

  • To use the power line as the communication channel, we have analyzed channel characteristics with the noise data and signal attenuation levels measured on power lines per loom. In this paper, channel capacities are calculated in the best or the worst case noise states and signal attenuations on power lines for three kinds of network-topologies. Analyzed the channel capacity by the best and worst conditions, we concluded that the serious factors influenceing on the channel capacity are the length from a transmitter to a receiver and the network topology.

  • Power-line communication technology is proposed to identify cables of power distribution systems. It can extend the application area of power-line communication. Distribution line cable circuits have only a limited ability to carry higher frequencies. Typically power transformers in the distribution system prevent propagating the higher frequency carrier signal. The proposed method uses the limited propagation ability to identify the cable. A novel power cable identification system is designed and implemented. The system consists of a transmitter and a receiver with power-line communication module. Some experiments are conducted to verify the theoretical concepts. Also some simulations are done to help and understand the concepts by using Simulink simulator.
