A Rail-to-Rail Input 12b 2 MS/s 0.18 μm CMOS Cyclic ADC for Touch Screen Applications

  • A 12b 2 MS/s cyclic ADC processing 3.3 Vpp single-ended rail-to-rail input signals is presented. The proposed ADC demonstrates an offset voltage less than 1 mV without well-known calibration and trimming techniques although power supplies are directly employed as voltage references. The SHA-free input sampling scheme and the two-stage switched op-amp discussed in this work reduce power dissipation, while the comparators based on capacitor-divided voltage references show a matched full-scale performance between two flash sub ADCs. The prototype ADC in a $0.18{\mu}m$ 1P6M CMOS demonstrates the effective number of bits of 11.48 for a 100 kHz full-scale input at 2 MS/s. The ADC with an active die area of $0.12\;mm^2$ consumes 3.6 m W at 2 MS/s and 3.3 V (analog)/1.8 V (digital).

  • In this paper, we designed Active Magnetic Bearing (AMB) for large scale Superconductor Flywheel Energy Storage System (SFESS) and PD controller for AMB. And we experimentally evaluated SFESS including hybrid type AMB. The radial AMB was designed to provide force slew rate that was sufficient for the unbalance disturbances at the maximum operating speed. The thrust AMB is a hybrid type where a permanent magnet carries the weight of the flywheel and an electromagnetic actuator generates the dynamic control force. We evaluated the design performance of the manufactured AMB through comparison of FEM analysis and the results of experimental force measurement. In order to obtain gains of PD controller and design a notch filter, the system identification was performed through measuring frequency response including dynamics for the AMBs, a power amp and a sensor using a sine swept test method after levitating the flywheel. Through measuring the current input of the AMBs and the orbit of a flywheel according to rotational speed, we verified excellent control performance of the AMBs with small amount current for the large scale SFESS.

  • We designed 10bit source driver LSI, then the high color depth and the low power consumption are realized thru it. It is adopted mini-LVDS receiver with high speed data transmission and good data recovery performance, Hybrid type DAC to reduce decoder size and OP-AMP with low power consumption and high slew rate. In addition we show our results of the 10-bit gray scale TFT-LCD source driver for 42inch diagonal size and WXGA resolution TFT-LCD TV applications.

  • DC/DC switching power converters produce DC output voltages from different DC input sources. The converter is used in regenerative braking of DC motors to return energy back in the supply, resulting in energy savings for the systems containing frequent stops. The DC/DC converter is composed of a PWM-IC (pulse width modulation integrated circuit) controller, a MOSFET (metal-oxide semi-conductor field-effect transistor), an inductor, capacitors, and resistors, etc. PWM is applied to control and regulate the total output voltage. In this paper, radiation shows the main influence on the changes in the electrical characteristics of comparator, operational amplifier, etc. in PWM-IC. In the PWM-IC operation, the missing pulses, the changes in pulse width, and the changes of the output waveform are studied by the simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis (SPICE) and compared with experiments.

  • In the present work, the practical thermal design process of 1 DIN car DVD receiver described. In the course of its efficient design, CAE technique was essentially used. CAE technique has reduced research period, man power and material cost but has increased research convenience, organized results and persuasive power. CAE technique helped to study parameters such as vent, fan and heat sink. Using these elements, it tried to meet optimal thermal solution. But safety standard, printed circuit board and framework mechanism should be considered as the constraint. To overcome these constraints, we tried to communicate and compromise with projectors in charge. After all, the price of those efforts has made the most competitive heat sink for heat dissipation in the 1 DIN car DVD receiver market. Moreover, we are trying to save $3 per product by removing fan. This paper is supposed to show an example of the CAE technique and help thermal designers to make electronic packaging goods.

  • This work presents a cable fault monitoring system based on the differential frequency domain reflectometry using a compact impedance analyser which is composed of a direct digital synthesizer, an op amp and a gain/phase detector with a micro controller. The proposed system can replace expensive vector network analysers for frequency domain reflectometry and therefore be deployed in sensor networks for long term multi-point cable monitoring. Effectiveness of the system is experimentally confirmed by diagnosing the status of the power cable.

  • This paper presents a 2-stage, simple, power-efficient 3V CMOS operational amplifier and its equation based design optimization. Because of its simple structure, it is very suitable as a VLSI library cell in analog/digital mixed-mode systems. The op-amp, which contains a constant-$g_m$ rail-to-rail input stage and a simple feedforward class-AB rail-to-rail output stage, is analyzed and the results are presented in the form of design equations and procedures, which provide an insight into the trade-offs among performance requirements. The results of SPICE simulations are shown to agree very welt with the use of design equations.

Improved performance of a linear pulse motor with repetitive positioning control

  • We propose a method to improve repeatability positioning precision of a linear pulse motor. By using this method the systematic error which may make the precision worse can be suppressed easily. And also we show that Power OP-Amp drive system enables the accidental error to be suppressed in comparison with PWM control drive system using IGBT inverter. As a result of the suppression of systematic and accidental error, improved performance of a linear pulse motor with repetitive positioning control is shown by experimental results.

  • 본 논문은 LED 백라이트 구동을 위한 전력변환 제어기 설계 및 동특성에 대해 설명한다. 또한 근래 산업계에서 널리 사용하는 operational transconductance amplifier(OTA)와 operational amplifier(op-amp)의 상관관계를 분석하여 각각의 소자를 이용한 최적 제어기를 설계하였다. 설계와 해석을 위해 PSIM 시뮬레이션을 사용하였으며 구현한 PSIM 모델은 실험을 통하여 타당성을 증명하였다.

  • This paper presents a constant gm input stagefor low-voltage rail-to-rail operational amplifier. A proposed scheme uses two current paths to keep sum of the biasing currents of the complimentary input pairs. The op amp was designed in a $0.8\mu\textrm{m},$ n-well CMOS, double-polysilicon and double-metal technology. This achieved in weak inversion. The circuit can operate in power supply voltage from 1.5V up to 3V. An open-loop gain, AV, was simulated as 84dB for 15pF load. An unit-gain frequency, fT was 10MHz.
