Preparation and characteristic of long 19-filamentary Bi-2223 tapes and coil

  • Long 19-filamentary Bi-2223 tapes were prepared using the so called "powder-in-tube" method. In the preparation, two types of precursor powders and two different reduction rates during rolling were used. Also two rolling method, which resulted in different filament geometry, were used. The characteristics of the tapes will be presented. Also A coil was prepared using two 56 m-long 19-filament tape. It was consisted of two double pancake coils. Each pancake, which is separated by FRP spacer, was composed of 98 turns. The experimental results will be presented and compared to the simulation result.

  • BSCCO 2212 HTS was fabricated by CFP(centrifugal forming process). The powder was initially ground in the mixing ratio of 2:2::1:2 with 10% of SrSO$_4$. The temperature increased up to 1035$^{\circ}C$ and 1200$^{\circ}C$ for melting. The melt was poured into the preheated and rotating copper mould from 200 to 600$^{\circ}C$. The specimen was not broken by thermal impact when the melting temperature was over 1050$^{\circ}C$ and copper mould was preheated over 400$^{\circ}C$ for 30min. A tube type of specimen was annealed at 840$^{\circ}C$ or 860$^{\circ}C$ in oxygen atmosphere for 24hours. Typical microstructure was analyzed in terms of CFP parameters by XRD, SEM, and EDS and also superconducting characteristics were compared.

  • The effect of Ag alloy sheath have been investigated in terns of critical current density and mechanical property. Nevertheless the continuous improvement of critical current density($J_c$) of Ag sheathed Bi2223 oxide superconducting wire processed with powder in tube(PIT) method, poor mechanical strength is still considered to be demerits for power application. In this study, we prepared two kinds of Ag- x wt% Cu alloy and pure Ag sheathed Bi2223 superconducting tapes. The hardness and tensile strength of prepared tapes has been measured. Their mechanical propertes were improved by Ag alloying.

  • In order to investigate the relation between the microstructure and the V-I characteristics of HTSC wire, single and 19 filamentary silver-sheathed Bi2223 tapes were fabricated using the powder-in-tube method. Higher J$\_$c/ at 77.3 K(0 T) and 4.2 K(in magnetic field) can be achieved for the 19 filamentary Bi tape, comparing the single filamentary tape. However, the I$\_$c/ distribution of 19 filamentary Bi2223 tape was found to be wider by analyzing the curve obtained from 2nd differential of V-I data. This was considered to be resulted from worse uniformity of oxide filament due to severe cold working.

  • The various type Ag sheathed Bi-2223 tapes have been were fabricated by Powder-in-tube(PIT) process. The critical current density could be improved with the value of $23,000\;A/cm^2$(77 K, zero field) in the single concentric Bi-2223 tape. The bending property dependence of $I_c$ was improved in the double concentric Bi-2223 tape compared with single filamentary and single concentric one.

  • To find antitumor components with low toxicity in natural products of Korean Basidiomycete, the carpophores of Flammulina velutipes (Fr.) Sing. were extracted with hot water for eight hours. The extract was purified by dialyzing through Visking tube and a protein-bound polysaccharide fraction was obtained as pale brownish amorphous powder after it was freeze-dried. The fraction was examined for antitumor activity against sarcoma 180 implanted subcutaneously in the left groins of I.C.R. mice. The inhibition ratio of this fraction of against the tumor was 62.3% at the dose of 10 mg/kg/day for the period of ten days. The tumors in three of the ten treated mice were completely regressed.

  • In this study, Repair mortar was prepared using CNT powder with improved dispersibility and its characteristics were analyzed. As a result of the experiment, the compressive strength and flexural strength were found to be at similar levels compared to Plain without CNT. In addition, as a result of the drying shrinkage test, it was found that the drying shrinkage amount was decreased due to the effect of CNT mixed into the porous material filling the internal pores of the repair mortar.. The Bond strength of the repair mortar was at a similar level regardless of whether CNT was added or not

  • This study is about a connective method of High Tc wire for long wire. We prepared silver-sheathed BiPbSrCaCuO wires by the powder-in-tube method. Since the superconducting wires are ceramic, it is very hard to connect each other. In this study, we used a silver sleeve to contract wires and pressed them by various preasures. Then optimum preasure was 9,000 Kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ to get the high critical current. The higest critical current was 10A.

  • In this study, we fabricated Bi-2223/Ag high temperature superconducting tapes using PIT(Powder-In-Tube) process to apply the superconducting magnet, cable and etc. It is inevitable to deform the superconducting taps with axial strain for application. Therefore, for the characterization of the strain sensitivity of the superconducting properties, the degradation of Bi-2223/Ag tapes due to axial strain were investigated by measuring the critical current as a function of applied tension strain and external magnetic field. The critical current of Bi-2223/Ag tapes were decreased slightly up to 0.3∼0.4% applied strain but, drastically decreased more than these strains. Superconducting filament cores consisted of brittle ceramic fibers were broken easily by the large strain and current path were decreased simultaneously.

  • We have fabricated and tested a Bi-based high temperature superconducting current lead system. Ag sheathed Bi-2223 mono-filament tapes of $I_c=8.4$ A at 77 K under self-field condition were fabricated using powder-in-tube(P1T) method. Multi-layer current leads can be made by stacking of Ag sheathed Bi-2223 mono-filament wires. The critical current of this 10-layer current lead is about 68 A. The contact resistance across the copper-current lead interface has been studied using current-voltage characteristics. At temperature below critical temperature the resistive contribution of the interface to the total contact resistance dominates. We have measured AC transport losses in a current lead at 77 K, 60 Hz by a transport method.
