Thermoelectric Properties of the Hot-Pressed Bi$_{2}$(Te$_{1-x}$Se$_{ x}$)$_{3}$ Alloys with the $Bi_{2}Se_{3}$ Content ($Bi_{2}Se_{3}$ 함량에 따른 Bi$_{2}$(Te$_{1-x}$Se$_{ x}$)$_{3}$)

  • Thermoelectric properties of Bi$_{2}$(Te$_{1-x}$Se$_{ x}$)$_{3}$(0.05$\leq$x$\leq$0.25) prepared by mechanical alloying and hot pressing, were investigated. Contrary to the p-type behavior of single crystals, the hot-pressed Bi$_{2}$(Te$_{1-x}$Se$_{ x}$)$_{3}$ exhibited ntype conduction without addition of donor dopant. When $Bi_2(Te_{0.85}Se_{0.15})_3$powders were annealed in (50% $H_2$ + 50% Ar) atmosphere, the hot-pressed specimen exhibited a positive Seebeck coefficient due to the reduction of the electron concentration by removal of the oxide layer on the powder surface and annealing-out of the excess Te vacancies. Among the Bi$_{2}$(Te$_{1-x}$Se$_{ x}$)$_{3}$fabricated by mechanical alloying and hot pressing, $Bi_2(Te_{0.85}Se_{0.15})_3$ exhibited a maximum figure-of-merit of 1.92 $\times$ $lO^{-3}$/K.

Emission Characterization of Ammonia Produced from Swine Nightsoil (돈분뇨로부터 발생하는 암모니아의 배출 특성)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the characteristics and concentrations of ammonia produced from the livestock swine nightsoil treated with or without the livestock - environment improving agents. Odor generating device made of acryl was made by volume of 96 L to sample the ammonia odor. When swine night soil was placed in the device, concentration of ammonia averaged out at about 23.4 ppmv and ranged from 16 ppmv to 40 ppmv. Removal efficiencies of them showed 50% to 90% as compared to initial level before spraying, when the spray type agents were used immediately after they purchased. The persistence of the efficiency was retained for first two days. Among the agents, the natural deodorant showed the best efficiency of 87 to 99%. To evaluate the effects of 5 kinds of dietary probiotic powders, the experiments were conducted and based dietary treatments without antibiotics on growing piglets. In experiments, 60 piglets ($6.3{\pm}0.2\;kg$) were subjected to a 35-day feeding trial in which the effects of the dietary probiotic powder on the ammonia emission were compared. The ammonia gas emission was measured for every week. Ammonia emission from the swine nightsoil obtained from piglets supplemented with the probiotics power was lower than that of the nightsoil obtained from pigs in the control treatment (without probiotics). In ammonia removal efficiencies of the experimental groups, some products showed from 71% to 99% removal efficiencies throughout the entire period as compared to the control group. On the other hand, initial reduction of ammonia in some product was effective temporarily. After then, it did not show any reduction efficiency of ammonia.

Prevention of Swelling and Quality Improvement of Sunchang Traditional Kochujang by Natural Additives (천연첨가물을 이용한 전통고추장의 유통중 팽창억제 및 품질개선)

  • To suppress the gas forming caused by some yeast in the pack of traditional kochujang prepared at Sunchang area, which is the most severe problem during distribution of commercial products, mustard or horseradish powder as natural preservatives was mixed to the ingredients of kochujang and left for fermentation in clay pot as commercial scale for 180 day. The composition changes including quality and gas formaing in the kochujang containing those additives were monitored physicochemically and organoleptically. The fermented kochujang containing those additives were monitored physicohemically and organoleptically. The fermented kochujang containing 0.6% of horseradish showed lower organic acid content than that of the control but amino type nitrogen content, which is one of the important quality reference of kochujang, was higher in the one containing 0.6% natural preservatives. No color changed in the kochujang containing mustard but L and a value were increased in the kochujang containing horseradish. No difference of free reducing sugars was showed by the addition of those natural preservatives and the addition of 0.6% horseradish to kochujang had completely stopped gas forming during fermentation. The overall quality of the kochujang containing 0.6% horseradish was superior than that of the other treatments.

A Study on the Thermal Crack Control of the In-Ground LNG Storage Tank as Super Massive Structures (지하식 LNG 저장탱크 구조물의 온도균열 제어에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, thermal stress analysis are carried out considering material properties, curing condition, ambient temperature, and casting date of the mass concrete placed in bottom slab and side wall of the in-ground type LNG tank as a super massive structure. Also, based on the numerical results, cracking possibility is predicted and counter measures to prevent the cracking are proposed. For the tasks, two optimum mix proportions were selected. From the results of the thermal stress analysis, the through crack index of 1.2 was satisfied for separately caste concrete lots except for the bottom slab caste in 2 separate sequences. For the double caste bottom slab, it is necessary introduce counter measures such as pre-cooling prior to the site construction. Also, another crack preventive measure is to lower the initial casting temperature by $25^{\circ}C$ or less to satisfy 1.2 through crack index criterion. In the $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ caste bottom slab, the surface crack index was over 1.2. Therefore, the surface cracks can be controlled by implementing the curing conditions proposed in this study. Since the side wall's surface crack index was over 1.0, it is safe to assume that the counter preventive measures can control width and number of cracks.

Density and Water Absorption Characteristics of Artificial Lightweight Aggregates containing Stone-Dust and Bottom Ash Using Different Flux (폐석분 및 바텀애시를 사용한 인공경량골재의 융제(Flux) 종류에 따른 밀도 및 흡수율 특성)

  • In this paper, the physical properties of lightweight aggregate such as density and water absorption according to addition ratio and type of flux were investigated. When using $Na_2CO_3$ as flux of lightweight aggregate, burnability was available at low burning temperature and water absorption increased. And as increasing addition ratio of $CaCO_3$, NaOH, $Fe_2O_3$, absorption decreased and $CaCO_3$, NaOH, $Fe_2O_3$ were considered improper to use flux of lightweight aggregate because of high dried density. $Na_2SO_4$ was proper to use flux of lightweight aggregate due to dried density $1.35{\sim}1.50g/cm^3$ and lower absorption. When using glass abrasive sludge as flux of lightweight aggregate, dried density and water absorption were in the range of $1.45{\sim}1.55g/cm^3$ and 9~12% respectively. It was indicated that as increasing addition ratio of blast furnace slag powder, density increased whereas absorption decreased. In use of oxidizing slag as flux, artificial lightweight aggregate which have dried density $1.46g/cm^3$, water absorption 8,5 % can be manufactured at 10 % of addition ratio.

STUDY ON THE PROPERTIES OF GYPSUM-BONDED DENTAL INVESTMENTS (치과용 석고계 매몰재의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The properties of a investment material can be described by the consistency at the slurry state, the setting time, the compressive strength and the thermal expansion during the casting. In this study the effect of the production parameters which are included the ratio of quartz and cristobalite, the content of binder, the water powder ratio and the content and concentration of additives on the properties of the gypsum-bonded investments has been investigated with help of the consistency test, the vicat needle test, the compressive strength test, the thermal expansion test, x-ray diffraction and DTA thermal differential test. The experimental results showed that the constitution of a investment with W/P ratio of 0.34, 30% of gypsum, 0.8% aluminium sulfate, 2% magnesium sulfate, 0.6% sodium phosphate was adapted for the properties of the KDA Spec. No. 13 type I investment. The important experimental results are summarized as follows. 1. The consistency of the investment decreased with increasing amount of aluminium sulfate and decreasing amount of sodium phosphate. An addition of magnesium sulfate up to 2% an increase of the consistency was shown. But 3% magnesium sulfate in investment showed a decrease of consistency. The consistency did not vary significantly with a variation of the content of gypsum and cristobalite and the W/P ratio. 2. Aluminium sulfata and the magnesium sulfate promoted the hardening and the aluminium phoshpate delayed the hardening. The setting time increased with amount of gypsum. The effect of the matrix on the setting time was insignificant. With the W/P ratio of 0.34 the setting time was 14 min. 3. The compressive strength decreased with the amount of aluminium sulfate up to 0.25% and increased with the amount of aluminium sulfate greater than 3%. The compressive strength decreased as decreasing the amount of magnesium sulfate and gypsum and as increasing the W/P ratio. The effect fo the refractory on the compressive strength was also not significant. With the W/P ratio of 0.34 the compressive strength was $34Kg/mm^2$. 4. The 1st thermal expansion was found at the temperature near $250^{\circ}C$ and the steady state or the contraction stage was found at the temperature between $250^{\circ}C$ and $500^{\circ}C$. After this stage the 2nd thermal expansion took place at the temperature near $500^{\circ}C$. The amount of thermal expansion increased with decreasing the content of magnesium sulfate, aluminium sulfate and gypsum and the W/P ratio. And the amount of thermal expansion increased as the content of sodium phosphate ad cristobalite. With the W/P ratio of 0.34 the amount of total expansion was 1.2%.

Exploration of Optimum Retention of Antibacterial Agents in Functional Packaging Paper (항균 포장원지내 항균소재의 최적 정착법 탐색)

  • Antimicrobial packaging paper was prepared with a powder-type botanical antimicrobial agent from grapefruit seed extract (BAAG) and zeolite according to TAPPI standard method. The functional fillers containing BAAG fixed to CaCO$_3$ and zeolite were well retained in the fiber network by a retention aid such as cationic polyacrylamide, which was ascertained by the ash contents of paper and the SEM microphotographs. With addition of the functional fillers to paper, tensile strength and burst strength of the paper decreased by interference of the functional fillers with interfiber bonding but bending stiffness and tear strength increased by improved elastic modulus of paper and delayed transfer of tearing energy. Finally, it was confirmed that the antimicrobial packaging paper might be able to be used to make packaging bags and corrugated containers due to the minor deterioration of strength properties.

Study on $CdIn_{2}Te_{4}$ single crystal growth and electrical characteristics ($CdIn_{2}Te_{4}$ 단결정 성장과 전기적 특성)

  • A $CdIn_{2}Te_{4}$ single crystal was grown by modified veritical bridgman method. The $CdIn_{2}Te_{4}$ single crystal was evaluated to be tetragonal by the powder method. The $CdIn_{2}Te_{4}$ single crystal was confirmed to be grown with its c axis along the lengthe of the boule by the Laue reflection method. Hall effect of $CdIn_{2}Te_{4}$ single crystal was estimated by van der pauw method from 293 K to 30 K. Hall data of the sample perpendicular to c axis was $n=8.75{\times}10^{23}electrons/m^{3},\;R_{H}=7.14{\times}10^{-5}m^{3}/C,\;{\sigma}=176.40{\omega}^{-1}m^{-1},\;{$\mu}=3.41{\times}10^{-2}m^{2}/V.s$ and the sample parallel to c axis was $n=8.61{\times}10^{23}electrons/m^{3},\;R_{H}=7.26{\times}10^{-5}m^{3}/C,\;{\sigma}=333.38{\omega}^{-1}m^{-1}\;and\;{$\mu}=2.42{\times}10^{-2}m^{2}/V.s$ for room temperature. The value of Hall coefficient on sample perpendicular or parallel to c axis were positive. There $CdIn_{2}Te_{4}$ single crystal was p-type semiconductor.

  • Statement of problem. Soft lining materials, also referred to as tissue conditioning materials, tissue heating materials, relining materials, soft liners or tissue conditioners, were first introduced to dentistry by a plastic manufacturer in 1959. Since the introduction of the materials to the dental field, their material properties have been continually improved through the effort of many researchers. Soft lining materials have become widely accepted, particularly by prosthodontists, because of their numerous clinical advantages and ease of manipulation. Unfortunately, few reports have been issued upon the topic of increasing the bond strength between the base metal alloy used in cast denture bases and PMMA soft liner modified with 4-META, nor upon the pattern of debonding and material change in wet environment like a intra oral situation. Purpose. The purposes of this study were comparing the bond strength between base metal alloy used for the cast denture bases and PMMA soft liner modified with 4-META, and describing the pattern of debonding and material property change in wet environment like the intraoral situation. Material and Methods. This study consisted of four experiments: 1. The in vitro measurement of shear bond strength of the adhesive soft liner. 2. The in vitro measurement of shear bond strength of the adhesive soft liner after 2 weeks of aging. 3. A comparison of debonding patterns. 4. An evaluation the Relation time of modified soft liner. The soft liner used in this study was commercially available as Coe-soft (GC America.IL.,USA), which is provided in forms of powder and liquid. This is a PMMA soft liner commonly used in dental clinics. The metal primer used in this study was 4-META containing primer packed in Meta fast denture base resin (Sun Medical Co., Osaka, Japan). The specimens were formed in a single lap joint desist which is useful for evaluating the apparent shear bond strength of adhesively bonded metal plate by tensile loading. Using the $20{\times}20mm$ transparent grid, percent area of adhesive soft liner remaining on the shear area was calculated to classify the debonding patterns. To evaluate the change of the initial flow of the modified adhesive soft liner, the gelation time was measured with an oscillating rheometer (Haake RS150W/ TC50, Haake Co., Germany). It was a stress control and parallel plate type with the diameter of 35mm. Conclusion. Within the conditions and limitations of this study, the following conclusions were drawn as follows. 1. There was significant increase of bond strength in the 5% 4-META, 10% 4-META containing groups and in the primer coated groups versus the control group(P<0.05). 2. After 2 weeks of aging, no significant increase in bond strength was found except for the group containing 10% 4-META (P<0.05). 3. The gelation times of the modified soft liner were 9.3 minutes for the 5% 4-META containing liner and 11.5 minutes for the 10% 4-META liner. 4. The debonding patterns of the 4-META containing group after 2 weeks of aging were similar to those of immediaely after preparation, but the debonding pattern of the primer group showed more adhesive failure after 2 weeks of aging.

Changes of physiochemical properties and biological activity during the fermentation of Doenjnag with bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) (여주 함유 된장의 발효 중 이화학적 특성 및 생리활성의 변화)

  • This study evaluated the changes of physiochemical properties, phytochemical compounds (isoflavones and phenolic acids), and biological activity during the fermentation of Doenjang without and with bitter melon powder (BMP). The pH decreased from 6.41-5.83 to 5.81-5.24, during the fermentation of Doenjang, while the acidity increased from 0.42-0.65% to 1.28-1.48%. The viable cell numbers of Bacillus and Yeast, salinity, and total amino acid contents increased at the end fermentation (60 day). Also, the fermented Doenjang (FD) with 10% BMP showed the highest ${\gamma}$-aminobutyric acid (GABA, 129.87 mg/100 g) contents, among all the Doenjang samples. The FD exhibited significantly higher inhibitory activities than unfermented Doenjang (UFD) on radicals and ${\alpha}$-glucosidase. The phytochemical compounds including isoflavone-aglycones and phenolic acids increased, whereas isoflavoneglycosides decreased in the BM following fermentative processing. Moreover, the total phenolic, isoflavone-aglycone, and phenolic acid contents were markedly increased, leading to a general increase in antioxidant and ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibition activities after fermentation. These results suggest that BMP may be used to prepare a new type of fermented Doenjang with improved antioxidant and antidiabetic activities.
