Composites of ceramic powders and an elastomer-based matrix were prepared by mixing $CaCO_3$ powders with polyethylene and polypropylene elastomers, and their mechanical and sound insulation properties were measured. $CaCO_3$ powders with 0.7 ${\mu}m$ and 35 ${\mu}m$ particle size were added to elastomers up to 80 wt%. Scanning electron microscopy photographs showed uniform distribution of the $CaCO_3$ powders in the matrix. While density and surface hardness increased, melt index, tensile strength and elongation of the composites decreased as the amount of added $CaCO_3$ powders increased. As more $CaCO_3$ powders were added sound transmission loss of the composites increased owing to the increase of density. Addition of 0.7 ${\mu}m$ sized $CaCO_3$ powders resulted in a slightly higher transmission loss than the addition of 35 ${\mu}m$ sized powders because of the increased interface area between the elastomer matrix and the $CaCO_3$ powders. Composites with a polyethylene matrix showed higher transmission loss than those with a polypropylene matrix because the tensile strength and hardness of the polyethylene-based composites were low and their elongation was high.

The study is to evaluate the effect of bank protection concrete block products to streams and soils. The effect on three types of bank protection concrete blocks was evaluated.. The first type was manufactured using fly ash, and the second and third type products used fine blast furnace slag powder. The laboratory and field Experiments test results showed the pHs of 9 or less. Also, any heavy metals were not detected in the heavy metal leaching tests. Although some iron (Fe) was partially detected, it still met the water quality standards. In addition, heavy metal was detected from all blocks by the US drinking water evaluation standards method. An on-site water quality and soil contamination tests were performed at the places that the blocks were implemented in practice. The test results showed that the application of the bank protection concrete block product did not lead to the water and soil quality degradation. Therefore, it was found that the hardened bank protection concrete block product did not elute harmful substances such as heavy metals that affect water and soil quality degradation.
To control Phytophthora blight of red pepper biologically caused by Phytophthora capsici, we developed Trichoderma harzianum DYMC for commercial product. DYMC was storage at room temperature and was investigated their population every 3 months for 1 year. For investigating the dynamic population of T. harzianum in the pot soils, we applied powder and suspension applications with DYMC, and then investigated for 95 days. The efficacy of powder and suspension applications of DYMC for control of Phytophthora blight of red pepper and plant growth were investigated for 50 days in greenhouse experiment. The population of T. harzianum was decreased at the room temperature for 1 year but there was not statistically significance. After soil treated in the pot with DYMC, the population of Trichoderma spp. was the highest when DYMC powder at 5 g was applied to mix with pot soil, and the population was deceased significantly among treatment means as time goes by ($R^2=0.76$, F=10.5960, P=<.0001). Incidence of Phytophthora blight of, red pepper was significantly reduced among treatment means on 50th day after treated with DYMC ($R^2=0.82$, P=16.4758, P=<.0001). Disease control value was the highest at 62.5% when DYMC powder at 5 g was applied to mix with pot soil. No significant difference (P=0.05) of effects of plant and root growth showed by treated with DYMC on 60th day, except stem. Mixing the application of DYMC powder with soil to control Phytophthora blight of red pepper was greater than suspension application to dilute with water. DYMC could be used as an effective biocontrol agent to control Phythophthora blight of red pepper.
The study aim was to investigate the effects of three types of mulberry products on the blood glucose and lipid statuses and peroxidative state under diabetic condition. The three types were mulberry liquor prepared by adding 30% ethanol to the crushed fresh fruit, mulberry wine and vinegar by fermentation. For diet experiment the mulberry liquor (M-Liquor), wine (M-Wine), and vinegar (M-Vinegar) were prepared as powders by freeze-drying of the respective product and were added to the diet at the level of 1% and mulberry fruit powder (M-Powder) at the level of 5%. Sprague- Dawley female rats weighing $150{\pm}10\;g$ were randomly assigned to one normal group, and five diabetic groups induced by one intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ) at the level of 50 mg/kg. The normal and diabetic control (DM-Control) groups were fed diet without the mulberry products. During twenty-one days of experimental diet, blood glucose was maintained at a low level in the M-Liquor group compared with the DM-Control group. However, serum insulin level was higher in both M-Liquor and M-Vinegar groups after the experimental diet period. Serum levels of total cholesterol and triglyceride (TG) were lower in M-Liquor but HDL-/total cholesterol ratios were higher in the four M groups. The TG liver level was lower in M-Powder and M-Vinegar groups but the cholesterol level was lower in M-Powder than in the DM-Control group. Serum levels of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances were not different among the groups but the liver levels of these substances were lower in the four M groups than in DM-Control. Serum GOT and GPT levels were not changed by the mulberry products. These results indicated that mulberry liquor is the most effective among the four mulberry products for normalizing blood glucose and lipid status and that all the mulberry products were effective in enhancing antioxidant defense in the diabetic state.

The Stone Powder Sludge(below SPS) is the by-product from the process that translates stone power of 8mm under as crushed fine aggregate. It is the sludge as like cake that has average particle size of $7{\mu}m$, absorbing water content of 20 to 60%, and $SiO_2$ content of 60% over. Because of high water content of SPS, it is not only difficult to handle, transport, and recycle, but also makes worse the economical efficiency due to high energy consuming to drying. This study is aim to recycle SPS as it is without drying. Target product is the lightweight foamed concrete that is made from the slurry mixed with pulverized mineral compounds and foams through hydro-thermal reaction of CaO and $SiO_2$. Although in the commercial lightweight foamed concrete CaO source is the cement and $SiO_2$ source is high purity silica powder with $SiO_2$ of 90%, we tried to use the SPS as $SiO_2$ source. From the experiments with factors such as foam addition rate and replacement proportion of SPS, we find that the lightweight foamed concrete with SPS shows the same trends as the density and strength of lightweight foamed concrete increases according to decrease of foam addition rate. But in the same condition, the lightweight foamed concrete with SPS is superior strength and density to that with high purity silica. This trends is distinguished according to increase of replacement proportion of SPS, also the analysis of XRF shows that the hydro thermal reaction translates SPS to tobermorite. Although SPS has low $SiO_2$ contents, the lightweight foamed concrete with SPS has superior strength and density, because it reacts well with CaO due to extremely fine particles. We conclude that it is possible to replace the high purity silica as SPS in the lightweight foamed concrete experimentally.
The grade and price of Lentinula edodes largely differs in preference depending on the product area and seasonal factors. The product amount of autumn L. edodes was higher than that of spring L. edodes, but high quality, which is divided into "Hwago" is low in preference. Mostly, the autumn L. edodes is obtained as powder; hence, it is necessary to develop a processing method to utilize its flavor and aroma at an affordable price. Additionally, we estimated the content of 𝛽-glucan, ergosterol, vitamin D2, reducing sugars, and free amino acids and evaluated the anti-inflammatory activity of saccharification powder of log-cultivated L. edodes. In the saccharification powders obtained via 7 min of UV irradiation of log-cultivated L. edodes, 𝛽-glucan and vitamin D2 contents were found to be the highest, whereas ergosterol content was found to be the lowest. The content of reducing sugars ranged from 62.4 mg/L to 68.2 mg/L. The free amino acids were higher in these saccharification powders than in the control. Subsequently, RAW 264.7 cells were treated with different concentrations (10, 50, 100, 200, 300, and 500 ㎍/mL) of the saccharification powders of log-cultivated L. edodes obtained via different UV irradiation time applications. The cells showed good viability; the anti-inflammatory effect was found to be the highest at 7 min UV irradiation. Therefore, 7 min of UV irradiation was determined to be the optimum condition for manufacturing saccharification powders of log-cultivated L. edodes. Hence, saccharification powders of log-cultivated L. edodes may be used as a raw material for natural sweeteners, food additives, and in the food industry.
To improve the solubility of poorly water-soluble drug and to develop a sustained release tablets, the need for the technique, the formation of solid dispersion with polymeric materials that can potentially enhance the dissolution rate and extent of drug absorption was considered in this study. The 1:1, 1:4, and 1:5 solid dispersions were prepared by spray drying method using PVP K30, ethanol and methylene chloride. The dissolution test was carried out at in phosphate buffer solution at $37^{\circ}C$ in 100 rpm. Solid dispersed drugs were examined using differential scanning calorimetry and scanning electron microscopy, wherein it was found that felodipine is amorphous in the PVP K30 solid dispersion. Felodifine SR tablets were prepared by direct compressing the powder mixture composed of solid dispersed felodipine, lactose, Eudragit and magnesium stearate using a single punch press. In order to develop a sustained-release preparation containing solid dispersed felodipine, a comparative dissolution study was done using commercially existing product as control. The dissolution rate of intact felodipine, solid dispersed felodipine and its physical mixture, respectively, were compared by the dissolution rates for 30 minutes. The dissolution rates of felodipine for 30 minutes from 1:1, 1:4, 1:5 PVP K30 solid dispersion were 70%, 78% and 90%. However, dissolution rate offelodipine from the physical mixture was 5% of drug for 30 minutes. Our developed product Felodipine SR Tablet showed dissolution of 17%, 50% and 89% for 1, 4, and 7 hours. This designed oral delivery system is easy to manufacture, and drug releases behavior is highly reproducible and offers advantages over the existing commercial product. The dissolution rate of felodipine was significantly enhanced, following the formation of solid dispersion. The solid dispersion technique with water-soluble polymer could be used to develop a solid dispersed felodipine SR tablet.
In order to improve the storage stability of powdered soybean curd, moisture sorption characteristics of the curd stored at specific relative humidity and temperature were investigated. The results obtained are summarized as follows; 1. When the fresh soybean curd (2cm thickness) was dried in a hot air drier at $55^{\circ}C$, it took 18 hrs to reduce its moisture content from 85% to 8.8%, and drying rate was very high during the first 5 hrs. 2. Equilibrum moisture content (E.M.C.) of powdered soybean curd by freeze drying was higher than that of sample by got air drying, but the particle size did not influence E. M. C. 3. The monolayer value of freeze dried powder of high E. M. C was higher than that of the hot air dried(8.30 vs 7.35). 4. The free energy for moisture absorption of freeze dried powder at 11% RH were 1285.1 cal/mole, 1323.5 cal/mole at $15^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$, respectively, and the free energy of freeze dried product was lower that of hot air dried product. 5. The moisture sorption rate constant was not affected by particle size, and it showed that the moisture sorption rate decreased as temperature was increased. The rate constant of powder produced by freeze drying were 0.00804 at $15^{\circ}C$ and 0.00696 at $30^{\circ}C$.
Supercritical carbon dioxide (SCO2) extraction was applied for the defatting of mealworm to prepare defatted powder (DP) and protein isolate (PI) and compare the process to press and hexane extraction, with respect to DP and PI physicochemical properties. SCO2 DP was obtained by extracting 34.40% oil at 41.37 MPa, 40℃ for 180 min, and the product contained 71.66% crude protein, which is similar to that of hexane DP and higher than that of press DP. In using alkali protein extraction to prepare PI from DP, SCO2 was as effective as hexane and better than press. SCO2 produced brighter DP and PI than press, but not as much as hexane. Protein solubility was similar in all DP, with minimum values at pH 5. The highest water adsorption capacity was noticeable for SCO2 PI, and SCO2 DP showed an oil adsorption capacity comparable to that of hexane DP. SCO2 DP and PI had better foaming capacity than press DP and PI and showed superior emulsion activity compared to others.
Microflora and contamination process of Saengshik products were investigated to ensure microbial safety of Saengshik. Food-borne pathogenic bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, and Clostridium perfringens detected mainly from grains were not removed by washing with tap water and freeze-drying. Contaminations of food-borne pathogenic bacteria occurred through raw material powder processed at other factories and during actual product manufacturing process, because detection rates of final products were higher than those of raw materials. Concentration of food-borne pathogenic bacteria increased with advancing of process after first pulverization. Dusts of powder and powder attached to machine were good media for air-borne microorganisms and caused to increase of food-borne pathogenic bacteria during process. Improvement of manufacturing process and sanitary control of machines arc necessary to ensure microbial safety of Saengshik.
