  • Both ratio error and phase angle error in potential transformer(PT) are critically affected by used burden, connected in parallel to the secondary terminal of the PT. Thus precise measurement of burden value is very important for the evaluation of PT An automatic measurement system has been developed for the measurement of burden value and power factor of a burden. The ac voltage, current and power of the burden are measured precisely, and the burden value and power factor were calculated from these measured values. The resistance and inductance values of the tested burden are also calculated. The overall measurement uncertainties are calculated and reported with the burden value and power factor. The best measurement uncertainty for the burden measurement with the developed automatic measurement system was estimated to be 0.5 $\%$.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the accuracy of weather forecasts of temperature, precipitation probability , and sky condition and to evaluate the applicability of weather forecasts for the estimation of potential evapotranspiration for irrigation scheduling. Five weather station s were selected to compare forecasted and measured climatcal data. The error between forecasted and measured temperature was calculated and discussed. The accuracy of temperature forecast using relative frequency of the error was calculated . The temperature forecasting showed considerably high accuracy. Average sunshine hours for forecasted sky conditions were calculated and showed reasonable quality. From the reliability graphs, the forecasting precipation probabililty was reliable. Potential evapotranspirations were calculated and compared using forecast and measured temperatures. The weather forecast is considered usable for irrigation scheculing.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the error rate performance of convolution coded 16 QAM signal in impulsive noise Environments. We used convolution code and selective combining diversity for performance improvement. We analyzed the error rate performance of 16 QAM signal in impulsive noise environments compared with gaussian noise environments. As a result of analysis, there is a BER segment where the efficiency of system does not improve until which limit to raise a signal power potential from impulsive noise environment. when the signal power potential which goes over this limit is supplied, BER efficiency improve much more.

  • This study explores the potential of automated speech recognition (ASR) in assessing English learners' pronunciation. We employed ASR technology, acknowledged for its impartiality and consistent results, to analyze speech audio files, including synthesized speech, both native-like English and Korean-accented English, and speech recordings from a native English speaker. Through this analysis, we establish baseline values for the word error rate (WER). These were then compared with those obtained for human raters in perception experiments that assessed the speech productions of 30 first-year college students before and after taking a pronunciation course. Our sub-group analyses revealed positive training effects for Whisper, an ASR tool, and human raters, and identified distinct human rater strategies in different assessment aspects, such as proficiency, intelligibility, accuracy, and comprehensibility, that were not observed in ASR. Despite such challenges as recognizing accented speech traits, our findings suggest that digital tools such as ASR can streamline the pronunciation assessment process. With ongoing advancements in ASR technology, its potential as not only an assessment aid but also a self-directed learning tool for pronunciation feedback merits further exploration.

  • In cable structure maintenance, particularly for cable-stayed bridges, cable safety assessment relies on estimating cable tension. Conventionally, in Japan, cable tension is estimated from the natural frequencies of the cable using the higher-order vibration method. In recent years, dampers have been installed on cables to reduce cable vibrations. Because the higher-order vibration method is a method for damper-free cables, the damper must be removed to measure the natural frequencies of a cable without a damper. However, cables on some cable-stayed bridges have two dampers: one on the girder side and another on the tower side. Notably, removing and reinstalling the damper on the tower side are considerably more time- and labor-intensive. This paper introduces a tension estimation method for cables with two dampers, using natural frequencies. The proposed method was validated through numerical simulation and experiment. In the numerical tests, without measurement error in the natural frequencies, the maximum estimation error among 100 models was 3.3%. With measurement error of 2%, the average estimation error was within 5%, with a maximum error of 9%. The proposed method has high accuracy because the higher-order vibration method for a damper-free cable still has an estimation error of 5%. The experimental verification emphasizes the importance of accurate damper modeling, highlighting potential discrepancies between existing damper design formula and actual damper behavior. By revising the damper formula, the proposed method achieved accurate cable tension estimation, with a maximum estimation error of approximately 10%.

  • Although the error backpropagation(EBP) algorithm based on the gradient descent method is a widely-used learning algorithm of neural networks, learning sometimes takes a long time to acquire accuracy. This paper develops a novel learning method to alleviate the problems of EBP algorithm such as local minima, slow speed, and size of structure and thus to improve performance by adopting other new networks. Gaussian Potential Function networks(GPFN), in parallel with multilayer neural networks. Empirical simulations show the efficacy of the proposed algorithm in function approximation, which enables us to train networks faster with the better generalization capabilities.

  • In micro electrochemical machining(micro-ECM), it is important to measure and control the potential of a tool electrode and a workpiece electrode because electrochemical reaction rate depends on the potential of the electrodes. When the electrode potential was measured against a reference electrode, the error of measured electrode potential could be minimized by proper tool electrode design. In this paper, multi-function electrodes consisting of a tool electrode and a reference electrode was fabricated by micro fabrication techniques. The machining conditions in micro-ECM using multi-function electrodes, such as pulse voltage parameters and electrode potential, were investigated.

  • This paper presents an useful technique for assessing the volumetric errors in multi-axis machine tools using the kinematic double ball bar. This system has been developed based on the volumetric error map which describes the 3 dimensional errors of machine tools. The developed system inputs the measured radial data of 3 different planes, respectively XY,YZ,ZX, analysing the volumetric errors such as positional. straightness, angle, and squareness errors, etc. The developed system has been tested in a practical machine tool, and showed high potential for the error assessment of multi-axis machine tools.

  • As one of the most potential types of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, CPM-QC-LDPC code has considerable advantages but there still exist some limitations in practical application, for example, the existing decoding algorithm has a low convergence rate and a high decoding complexity. According to the structural property of this code, we propose a new method based on a CPM-RID decoding algorithm that decodes block-by-block with weights, which are obtained by neural network training. From the simulation results, we can conclude that our proposed method not only improves the bit error rate and frame error rate performance but also increases the convergence rate, when compared with the original CPM-RID decoding algorithm and scaled MSA algorithm.

  • This thesis proposes a method for effectively detecting memory errors with low occurrence frequency that may occur depending on runtime situation by analyzing assembly codes obtained by disassembling an executable file. When applying the proposed method to various programs having no compilation error, a total of about 750 potential errors taken about 90 seconds are detected among 1 million lines of assembly codes corresponding to a total of about 10 thousand functions.
