The effects of post-oxidation and sulfnitriding treatments on the phase transformation in the nitrided case of tool steels have been studied. Dense and compact $Fe_3O_4$ layer was formed at the outer surface of nitride compound layer by post-oxidation treatment and multi layer of iron sulfide(FeS) was formed in the compound layer by sulfnitriding treatment. The surface hardness decreased because of formation of the soft oxide or sulfide at the nitride surface. Diffusion layer of nitride case was not affected by post-oxidation treatment or sulfnitriding treatment of nitrided alloy tool steels.
Recently a fuel oil of the diesel engine of the marine ship is being changed with heavy oil of low quality as the oil price is higher more and more. Therefore the wear and corrosion in all parts of the engine such as cylinder liner, piston crown, spindle and seat ring of exhaust valves are predominantly increased. In particular the degree of wear and corrosion of piston crown is more seriously compared to the other parts of the engine due to operating in severe environment such as the high temperature of exhaust gas and repeating impact. Thus the repair weldment of the piston crown is a unique method to prolong the its life in a economical point of view. In this case, filler metals having a high corrosion and wear resistance such as stellite 6, Inconel 625 and Inconel 718 are mainly being used for repair welding. However it has been often happened that piston crown on the ship,s job site is being actually inevitably welded with mild filler metals. Therefore in this study, filler metals such as E4301, E4313 and E4316 were welded at SS401 steel as the base metal, and corrosion property of their weld metals in the case of post weld heat treatment or not was investigated with some electrochemical methods such as measurement of corrosion potential, cathodic and anodic polarization curves, cyclic voltammogram and polarization resistance etc. in 0.1% $H_2SO_4$ solution. Corrosion resistance of the weld metal of E4301 was better than the other weld metals in the case of no heat treatment, however, its resistance was considerably decreased with post weld heat treatment(annealing:$625^{\circ}C$, 2 hr) compared to other weld metals. The weld metals of E4313 and E4316 showed a relatively good corrosion resistance by post weld heat treatment.

The effect of Post-Weld Heat Treatment(PWHT) of SS400 Steel was investigated with parameters such as micro vickers hardness corrosion potential polarization behaviors galvanic current Al anode generating current Al anode weight loss etc. Hardness of each parts(HAZ, BM, WM)by PWHT is lower than that of each parts by Non Post-Weld Heat Treatment(NPWHT) However hardness of WM of HAZ part was the highest among those three parts and HAZ area were also acted as cathode without any case of heat treatment. Potential difference between each three parts by PWHT was also smaller compared to NPWHT. Therefore it is suggested that Corrosion resistance property is increased by PWHT. However both Al anode generating current and anode weight loss was also decreased by PWHT compared to NPWHT when SS400 steel is cathodically protected by Al anode.

Thin film diode with reliable interfacial structure was fabricated by using multi-step anodic oxidation. The thickness of the oxide layer was preciously controlled with anodic voltage. Also, interfacial structure between oxide layer and top electrode was improved by applying post heat-treatment. The thin film diode showed symmetric and stable I-V characteristics after the post heat-treatment.
Several duplex overlaied-weldments which have different ferrite ratio were prepared by changing welding heat input ant post weld heat treatment were carried out to understand the effect of the ferrite ratio on the precipitation during post weld heat treatment. High heat input weldment indicated low ferrite ratio, while low heat input weldment has high ferrite ratio. Low ferrite ratio weldment showed much and faster precipitation. But high ferrite ratio weldment showed less and slower precipitation.

For surface hardening of a continuous casting mold component, a fundamental metallurgical investigation on dissimilar laser clads (Cu-NiCrBSi) is performed. In particular, variation behavior of microstructures and mechanical properties (hardness and wear resistance) of dissimilar clads during long-term service is clarified by performing high-temperature post-clad heat treatment (temperature range: 500 ~ 1,000 ℃ and isothermal holding time: 20 ~ 500 min). The microstructures of clad metals (as-clads) consist of fine dendrite morphologies and severe microsegregations of the alloying elements (Cr and Si); substrate material (Cu) is clearly confirmed. During the post-clad heat treatment, the microsegregations are totally homogenized, and secondary phases (Cr-based borides and carbides) precipitated during the short-term heat treatment are also almost dissolved, especially at the heat treatment conditions of 950 ℃ for 500 min. Owing to these microstructural homogenization behaviors, an opposite tendency of the surface mechanical properties can be confirmed. In other words, the wear resistance (wear rate) improves from 4.1 × 10-2 ㎣/Nm (as-clad condition) to 1.4 × 10-2 ㎣/Nm (heat-treated at 950 ℃ for 500 min), whereas the hardness decreases from 453 HV (as-clad condition) to 142 HV (heat-treated at 950 ℃ for 500 min).

A Cu-15Ag-5P filler metal (BCuP-5) is fabricated on a Ag substrate using a high-velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) thermal spray process, followed by post-heat treatment (300℃ for 1 h and 400℃ for 1 h) of the HVOF coating layers to control its microstructure and mechanical properties. Additionally, the microstructure and mechanical properties are evaluated according to the post-heat treatment conditions. The porosity of the heat-treated coating layers are significantly reduced to less than half those of the as-sprayed coating layer, and the pore shape changes to a spherical shape. The constituent phases of the coating layers are Cu, Ag, and Cu-Ag-Cu3P eutectic, which is identical to the initial powder feedstock. A more uniform microstructure is obtained as the heat-treatment temperature increases. The hardness of the coating layer is 154.6 Hv (as-sprayed), 161.2 Hv (300℃ for 1 h), and 167.0 Hv (400℃ for 1 h), which increases with increasing heat-treatment temperature, and is 2.35 times higher than that of the conventional cast alloy. As a result of the pull-out test, loss or separation of the coating layer rarely occurs in the heat-treated coating layer.

PURPOSE. Among the surface treatment methods suggested to enhance the adhesion of resin cement to fiberreinforced composite posts, conflicting results have been obtained with silanization. In this study, the effects of silanization, heat activation after silanization, on the bond strength between fiber-reinforced composite post and resin cement were determined. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Six groups (n=7) were established to evaluate two types of fiber post (FRC Postec Plus, D.T. Light Post) and three surface treatments (no treatment; air drying; drying at $38^{\circ}C$). Every specimen were bonded with dual-curing resin cement (Variolink N) and stored in distilled water for 24 hours at $37^{\circ}C$. Shear-bond strength (MPa) between the fiber post and the resin cement were measured using universal testing device. The data were analyzed with 1-way ANOVA and by multiple comparisons according to Tukey's HSD (${\alpha}$=0.05). The effect of surface treatment, fiber post type, and the interactions between these two factors were analyzed using 2-way ANOVA and independent sample T-tests. RESULTS. Silanization of the FRC Postec Plus significantly increased bond strength compared with the respective non-treated control, whereas no effect was determined for the D.T. Light Post. Heat drying the silane coupling agent on to the fiberreinforced post did not significantly improve bond strength compared to air-syringe drying. CONCLUSION. The bond strength between the fiber-reinforced post and the resin cement was significantly increased with silanization in regards to the FRC Postec Plus post. Bond strength was not significantly improved by heat activation of the silane coupling agent.
Recently, several high-tensile steels(e.g. 80kg and above, $2^{1/4}Cr$-1Mo)having good quality to high temperature and pressure-resistance are widely used to construct petroleum-plant and pressure vessel of heat or nuclear-power plant. However, in the steels, reheating crack at grain boundaries of the heat affected zone(HAZ) occures during post welding heat treatment(PWHT)to remove welding residual stress. In order to study theoretically the characteristics of reheating crack created by PWHT, the computer program of three-dimensional thermal-elasto-plasto-creep analysis based on finite element method are developed, and then the mechanical behavior(history of creep strain accumulation and stress relaxation, etc)of welded join in thick plate during PWTH is clarified by the numerical results.

The effects of post weld heat treatment(PWHT) on the mechanical properties of 2.25Cr-1Mo steels were investigated. As the PWHT temperature or holding time increased, the strength of low alloy steels progressively decreased due to softening process. After the conventional PWHT, the strength was larger than the minimum value of materials specification. The Charpy impact energy was hardly affected by the conventional PWHT. The trend of mechanical properties was analyzed in terms of tempering parameter. Most materials replaced from a power plant met the requirements of materials specification except for one heat. Same heat of materials with low impact energy were attributed to the voids formed during casting process.
