This paper deals with the geometrical nonlinear analyses of post-buckled columns with variable cross-section. The objective columns having variable cross-section of the width, depth and square tapers are supported by both hinged ends. By using the Bernoulli-Euler beam theory, differential equations governing the elastica of post-buckled column and their boundary conditions are derived. The solution methods of these differential equations which have two unknown parameters are developed. As the numerical results, equilibrium paths, elasticas and stress resultants of the post-buckled columns are presented. Laboratory scaled experiments were conducted for validating the theories developed in this study.
In order to improve the seismic resilience of coupled wall structure, coupling beam with fuse has been developed to reduce the post-earthquake damage. However, the fuses often have a build-up I-shaped section and are relatively heavy to be replaced. Moreover, the fuse and the beam segments are usually connected by bolts and it is time-consuming to replace the damaged fuse. For reducing the repair time and cost, a novel quickly replaceable coupling beam with buckling-restrained energy dissipaters is developed. The fuse of the proposed coupling beam consists of two chord members and bar-typed energy dissipaters placed at the corners of the fuse. In this way, the weight of the energy dissipater can be greatly reduced. The energy dissipaters and the chords are connected with hinge and it is convenient to take down the damaged energy dissipater. The influence of ratio of the length of coupling beam to the length of fuse on the seismic performance of the structure is also studied. The seismic performance of the coupled wall system with the proposed coupling beam is compared with the system with reinforced concrete coupling beams. Results indicated that the weight and post-earthquake repair cost of the proposed fuse can be reduced compared with the typical I-shaped fuse. With the increase of the ratio of the beam length to the fuse length, the interstory drift of the structure is reduced while the residual fuse chord rotation is increased.
This research is concerned with post-buckling investigation of nano-scaled beams constructed from porous functionally graded (FG) materials taking into account geometrical imperfection shape. Hence, two types of nanobeams which are perfect and imperfect have been studied. Porous FG materials are classified based on even or uneven porosity distributions. A higher order nonlinear refined beam theory is used in the present research. Both perfect and imperfect nanobeams are formulated based on this refined theory. A detailed study is provided to understand the effects of geometric imperfection, pore distribution, material distribution and small scale effects on buckling of FG nanobeams.

Recently, the externally prestressed unbonded steel I-beam bridges have been increasingly built. The mechanical behavior of prestressed steel I-beams which are with external unbonded tendon is different from that of normal bonded PSC beams in a point of that the slip of tendons at deviators and the change of tendon eccentricity occurs, when external loads are applied in external unbonded steel I-beams. The concept of prestressing steel structures has not been widely considered, in spite of long and successful history of prestressing concrete members. In this study, The field experiment on prestressed steel I-beams has been performed in the various aspects of prestressed I-beam including the tend on type and profile.
Elastic-plastic shear buckling behaviors of the web-post in a Castellated Steel Beam (CSB) with hexagonal web openings under vertical shear force were investigated further using Finite Element Model (FEM) based on a sub-model, which took the upper part of the web-post under horizontal shear force to represent the whole web-post under vertical shear force. A simplified design method for the web-post elastic-plastic shear buckling strength was proposed based on simulation results of the sub-model. Proper boundary conditions were applied to the sub-model to assure that its behaviors were identical to those of the whole web-post. The equation to calculate the thin plate elastic shear buckling strength was adopted as the basic form to build the design equation for elastic-plastic buckling strength of the sub-model. Parameters that might affect the elastic-plastic shear buckling strength of the whole web-post were studied. After obtaining the vertical shear buckling strength of a sub-model through FEM, the shear buckling coefficient k can be obtained through the back analysis. A practical calculation method for k was proposed through curving fitting the parameter study results. The elastic-plastic shear buckling strength of the web-post calculated using the proposed shear buckling coefficient k agreed well with that obtained from the FEM and test results. And it was more precise than those obtained from EC3 based on the strut model.
We successfully grew $La_{0.35}Pr_{0.35}Ca_{0.3}MnO_3$(LPCMO)/$LaAlO_3$(LAO) thin film using Laser Molecular-Beam Epitaxy and studied post-growth annealing effects ($750^{\circ}C$, 5 h) on its crystal structural and magnetic properties. Whereas the single-layered LPCMO and LPCMO/STO superlattice thin films show rough surface before and after the post-growth annealing, LPCMO/LAO superlattice shows a relatively very flat surface even after the post-growth annealing. The enhancement of ferromagnetism of LPCMO/LAO superlattice after the post-growth annealing was remarkable compared to the single-layered LPCMO thin film. The coercive and saturation magnetic field of the single-layed LPCMO thin film were decreased after the post-annealing. However, for LPCMO/LAO superlattice, a same coercive and increased saturation magnetic field were exhibited after post-growth annealing. We suggest that these peculiar observations are originate from the super-structure of LPCMO and LAO.
In this paper, a post-tensioned reinforced concrete slab was analyzed by the specially orthotropic laminates theory. Both the geometrical and material property of the cross section of the slab was considered symmetrically with respect to the neutral surface so that the bending extension coupling stiffness, $B_{ij}=0$, and $D_{16}=D_{26}=0$. Reinforced concrete slab behave as specially orthotropic plates. In general, the analytical solution for such complex systems is very difficult to obtain. Thus, finite difference method was used for analysis of the problem. In this paper, the finite difference method and the beam theory were used for analysis. The result of beam analysis was modified to obtain the solution of the plate analysis.

An experimental evaluation of crack propagation and post-cracking behavior in steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) beams, using full-field displacements obtained from the digital image correlation technique is presented. Surface displacements and strains during the fracture test of notched SFRC beams with volume fractions ($V_f$) of steel fibers equal to 0.5 and 0.75% are analyzed. An analysis procedure for determining the crack opening width over the depth of the beam during crack propagation in the flexure test is presented. The crack opening width is established as a function of the crack tip opening displacement and the residual flexural strength of SFRC beams. The softening in the post-peak load response is associated with the rapid surface crack propagation for small increases in crack tip opening displacement. The load recovery in the flexural response of SFRC is associated with a hinge-type behavior in the beam. For the stress gradient produced by flexure, the hinge is established before load recovery is initiated. The resistance provided by the fibers to the opening of the hinge produces the load recovery in the flexural response.
Although several techniques have been proposed to remove fiber-reinforced composite (FRC) post, no safe and efficient technique has been established. Recently, a guided endodontics technique has been introduced in cases of pulp canal obliteration. This study describes 2 cases of FRC post removal from maxillary anterior teeth using this guided endodontics technique with a dental operating microscope. Optically scanned data set from plaster cast model was superimposed with the data set of cone-beam computed tomography. By implant planning software, the path of a guide drill was selected. Based on them, a customized stent was fabricated and utilized to remove the FRC post. Employing guided endodontics, the FRC post was removed quickly and safely with minimizing the loss of the remaining tooth structure. The guided endodontics was a useful option for FRC post removal.

In this study, in order to clarify the effect of the direction of cyclic shear on the post-earthquake settlement the multi-directional shear tests were carried out for Toyoura Japan standard sand, Genkai natural sand and the Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GBFS). In a series of tests, number of strain cycles was changed as n=5-200 and the shear strain amplitude varied from 0.1% to 1.0%. The relative density was also changed as Dr=50, 60 and 70%. From the test results for Toyoura sand and GBFS, it is clarified that the post cyclic settlement is relatively large at the small relative density and becomes large with the shear strain amplitude. When the influence of the direction of cyclic shear is decreases, the post cyclic settlement strain for Toyoura sand is converged to a constant value, but the GBFS is increased with the number of strain cycles.
