The attitude information of spacecraft can be obtained by the sensors attached to it using a star tracker, three-axis magnetometer, three-axis gyroscope, and a global positioning signal receiver. By using these sensors, the spacecraft can be maneuvered by actuators that generate torques. In particular, electromagnetic-torque bars can be used for attitude control and as a momentum-canceling instrument. The spacecraft momentum can be created by the current through the electrical circuits and coils. Thus, the current around the electromagnetic-torque bars is a critical factor for precisely controlling the spacecraft. In connection with these concerns, a solar-cell array can be considered to prevent generation of a magnetic dipole moment because the solar-cell array can introduce a large amount of current through the electrical wires. The maximum value of a magnetic dipole moment that cannot affect precise control is $0.25A{\cdot}m^2$, which takes into account the current that flows through the reaction-wheel assembly and the magnetic-torque current. In this study, we designed a 300-W solar cell array and presented an optimal wire-routing method to minimize the magnetic dipole moment for space applications. We verified our proposed method by simulation.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to confirm that the cross-country ski sprint course in PyeongChang, where the 2018 Winter Olympics course was to utilize wearable devices equipped with inertial measurement unit (IMU), global positioning system (GPS) and heart rates sensor. Method: For the data collection, two national level cross-country (XC) skiers performed classic technique on the entire sprint course. We analyzed cycle characteristics, range of motion on double poling (DP) technique, average velocity, and displacement of 3 points according to the terrain. Results: The absolute cycle time gradually decreased during starting, middle and finish sections. While the length of the DP increased and the heart rates tended to increase for men skier. In addition, the results indicated that range of motion of knee joint during starting and finish section decreased more than middle section. The errors of latitude and longitude data collected through GPS were within 3 m from 3 points. Conclusion: Through the first case study in Korea, which analyzed the location and condition of XC skiers in the entire sprint course in real time, confirmed that feedback was available in the field using various wearable sensors.

During the shipbuilding process, many blocks are moved between shipyard workshops by block carrying vehicles called a transporter. Because block logistics management is one of the essential factors in enhancing productivity, it is necessary to manage block information with the transporter that moves it. Currently, because a large amount of data per day are collected from sensors attached to blocks and transporters via IoT infrastructure installed in shipyards, automated methods are needed to analyze them. Therefore, in this study, we developed an algorithm that can automatically match the transporter and the working block based on the GPS sensor data. By comparing the distance between the transporter and the blocks calculated from the Haversine formula, the block is found which is moved by the transporter. In this process, since the time of the measured data of moving objects is different, the time standard for calculating the distance must be determined. The developed algorithm was verified using actual data provided by the shipyard, and the correct result was confirmed with the distance based on the moving time of the transporter.

In this paper, we propose a position measuring system using trilateration based on the illuminance of a light-emitting diode (LED). Three LEDs are located on the ceiling of the virtual space, and each fixed coordinate is inputted to the monitoring program, and Length to the illuminance sensor is drawn through the relational expression of the length and illuminance value from the respective LED. Based on the derived length, the trilateration method is used to find object location information in virtual space. By using the least square equation to minimize the error of the length drawn to trilateration, the error is reduced to the utmost. Unlike the existing indoor positioning system using visible light communication (VLC), the proposed system does not require synchronization between the transmitter and the receiver, so the system can be configured simply.

The planning stage of laser scanning is crucial for acquiring high-quality 3D source data. It involves assessing the target space's environment and formulating an effective measurement strategy. However, existing practices often overlook on-site conditions, with decisions on scanner deployment and scanning locations relying heavily on the operators' experience. This approach has resulted in frequent modifications to scanning locations and diminished 3D data quality. Previous research has explored the selection of optimal scanner locations and conducted preliminary reviews through simulation, but these methods have significant drawbacks. They fail to consider scanner inaccuracies, do not support the use of multiple scanners, rely on less accurate 2D drawings, and require specialized knowledge in 3D modeling and programming. This study introduces an optimization technique for laser scanning planning using 3D simulation to address these issues. By evaluating the accuracy of scan data from various laser scanners and their positioning for scanning a retaining wall structure in a small-scale building, this method aids in refining the laser scanning plan. It enhances the decision-making process for end-users by ensuring data quality and reducing the need for plan adjustments during the planning phase.
The study aimed to develop a laser-based distance meter (LDM) to improve water surface identification for clinical MeV electron beam dosimetry, as inaccurate water surface determination can lead to imprecise positioning of ionization chambers (ICs). The LDM consisted of a laser ranging sensor, a signal processing microcontroller, and a tablet PC for data acquisition. I50 (the water depth at which ionization current drops to 50 % of its maximum) measurements of electron beams were performed using six different types of ICs and compared to other water surface identification methods. The LDM demonstrated reproducible I50 measurements with a level of 0.01 cm for all six ICs. The uncertainty of water depth was evaluated at 0.008 cm with the LDM. The LDM also exposed discrepancies between I50 measurements using different ICs, which was partially reduced by applying an optimum shift of IC's point of measurement (POM) or effective point of measurement (EPOM). However, residual discrepancies due to the energy dependency of the cylindrical chamber's EPOM caused remained. The LDM offers straightforward and efficient means for precision water surface identification, minimizing reliance on individual operator skills.
This paper addresses the critical need for quadcopters in GPS-denied indoor environments by proposing a novel attitude control mechanism that enables autonomous navigation without external guidance. Utilizing AR marker detection integrated with a dual PID controller algorithm, this system ensures accurate maneuvering and positioning of the quadcopter by compensating for the absence of GPS, a common limitation in indoor settings. This capability is paramount in environments where traditional navigation aids are ineffective, necessitating the use of quadcopters equipped with advanced sensors and control systems. The actual position and location of the quadcopter is achieved by AR marker detection technique with the image processing system. Moreover, in order to enhance the reliability of the attitude PID control, the dual closed loop control feedback PID control with dual update periods is suggested. With AR marker detection technique and autonomous attitude control, the proposed quadcopter system decreases the need of additional sensor and manual manipulation. The experimental results are demonstrated that the quadrotor's autonomous attitude control and operation with the dual closed loop control feedback PID controller with hierarchical (inner-loop and outer-loop) command update period is successfully performed under the non-GPS aided indoor environment and it enhanced the reliability of the attitude and the position PID controllers within 17 seconds. Therefore, it is concluded that the proposed attitude control mechanism is very suitable to GPS-denied indoor environments, which enables a quadcopter to autonomously navigate and hover without external guidance or control.
The Sea Surface Temperature (SST) is one of the most important oceanic environmental factors in determining the change of marine environments and ecological activities. Satellite thermal infrared images can be effective for understanding the global trend of sea surface temperature due to large scale. However, their low spatial resolution caused some limitations in some areas where complicated and refined coastal shapes due to many islands are present as in the Korean Peninsula. The coastal ocean is also very important because human activities interact with the environmental change of coastal area and most aqua farming is distributed in the coastal ocean. Thus, low-cost airborne thermal infrared remote sensing with high resolution capability is considered for verifying its possibility to extract SST and to monitor the changes of coastal environment. In this study, an airborne thermal infrared system was implemented using a low-cost and ground-based thermal infrared camera (FLIR), and more than 8 airborne acquisitions were carried out in the western coast of the Korean Peninsula during the periods between May 23, 2012 and December 7, 2013. The acquired thermal infrared images were radiometrically calibrated using an atmospheric radiative transfer model with a support from a temperature-humidity sensor, and geometrically calibrated using GPS and IMU sensors. In particular, the airborne sea surface temperature acquired in June 25, 2013 was compared and verified with satellite SST as well as ship-borne thermal infrared and in-situ SST data. As a result, the airborne thermal infrared sensor extracted SST with an accuracy of $1^{\circ}C$.
PURPOSES : This study aims to investigate the snow-melt effects of an underground electric heater's snow-melt system via a field performance test, for evaluating the suitability of the system for use on a concrete pavement. The study also investigates the effectiveness of dynamic measures for clearing snow after snowfall events. METHODS : In order to check the field applicability, in November 2010, specimens were prepared from materials used for constructing concrete pavements, and underground electric heating meshes (HOT-mesh) were buried at depths of 50 mm and 100 mm at the site of the Incheon International Airport Construction Research Institute. Further, an automatic heating control system, including a motion sensor and pavement-temperature-controlled sensor, were installed at the site; the former sensor was intended for determining snow-melt effects of the heating control system for different snowfall intensities. Pavement snow-melt effects on snowy days from December 2010 to January 2011 were examined by managing the electric heating meshes and the heating control system. In addition, data on pavement temperature changes resulting from the use of the heating meshes and heating control system and on the dependence of the correlation between the outdoor air temperature and the time taken for the required temperature rise on the depth of the heating meshes were collected and analyzed. RESULTS : The effects of the heating control system's preheat temperature and the hot meshes buried at depths of 50 mm and 100 mm on the melting of snow for snowfalls of different intensities have been verified. From the study of the time taken for the specimen's surface temperature to increase from the preheat temperature ($0^{\circ}C$) to the reference temperature ($5{\sim}8^{\circ}C$) for different snowfall intensities, the correlation between the burial depth and outdoor air temperature has been determined to be as follows: Time=15.10+1.141Depth-6.465Temp CONCLUSIONS : The following measures are suggested. For the effective use of the electric heating mesh, it should be located under a slab it may be put to practical use by positioning it under a slab. From the management aspect, the heating control system should be adjusted according to weather conditions, that is, the snowfall intensity.
Traffic accidents can be defined as a physical collision event of vehicles occurred instantaneously when drivers do not perceive the surrounding vehicles and roadway environments properly. Therefore, detecting the high potential events that cause traffic accidents with monitoring the interactions among the surroundings continuously by driver is the prerequisite for prevention the traffic accidents. For the analysis, basic data were collected to analyze interactions using a test vehicle which is equipped the GPS(Global Positioning System)-IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit), camera, radar and RiDAR. From the collected data, highway geometric information and the surrounding traffic situation were analyzed and then safety evaluation algorithm for driving vehicle was developed. In order to detect a dangerous event of interaction with surrounding vehicles, locations and speed data of surrounding vehicles acquired from the radar sensor were used. Using the collected data, the tangent and curve section were divided and the driving safety evaluation algorithm which is considered the highway geometric characteristic were developed. This study also proposed an algorithm that can assess the possibility of collision against surrounding vehicles considering the characteristics of geometric road structure. The methodology proposed in this study is expected to be utilized in the fields of autonomous vehicles in the future since this methodology can assess the driving safety using collectible data from vehicle's sensors.
