In the perspective of saving energy in buildings, the high performance of insulation and air tightness for improving the heating and the cooling efficiency, has brought economically positive effects. However, these building energy saving technologies cause the lack of ventilation, which is the direct cause of increasing the indoor contaminants, and is also very harmful to the residents, because they spend over 90% of their time indoors. Therefore, the ventilation is important to keep the indoor environment clean and it can also save the energy consumption. In this study, a HEPA type nano ceramic filter is designed as a passive ventilation system to collect airborne particles and to supply fresh outdoor air. The double layer filter, which has $30{\mu}m$ in diameter at the conditions of 10wt% of concentration and 3kV/cm of the electric intensity, is produced by electrospinning. The filtration coating technology is confirmed in the solution with $SiO_2$ nano particles using polymer nano fibers. Also double layer filters are coated with $SiO_2$ nano particles and finally the porous construction materials are made by sintering in the electric furnace at $200{\sim}1400^{\circ}C$. The efficiency is measured 96.67% at the particle size of $0.31{\mu}m$, which is slightly lower than HEPA filter. However the efficiency is turned out to be sufficient.

This paper reveals the performance decrease and recovery of PEMFC when the contaminated fuel gas and air source with sulfur impurities such as hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide were simultaneously introduced to anode and cathode, respectively. Three different GDLs were fabricated with different carbon black and activated carbon to prevent an introduction of sulfur compound impurities into MEA. components. The severity of $SO_2$ and $H_2S$ poisoning was depended on concentrations(3 ppm - 10 ppm) of sulfur impurities. Especially, cell performance degradation rate was rapid when MEA fabricated with CN-2 GDL because it had little porosity on GDL surface. Moreover, the cell performance can be recovered up to 90%-95% only with neat hydrogen and fresh air feeding.. Conclusively, MEA fabricated with porous CN-1 GDL showed the best cell performance and recovery efficiency during exposure to poisoning condition by simultaneous sulfur impurities.

Porosity in polymer matrix composites generated during pyrolysis process affect the thermomechanical behavior of the composites. In this paper, multislice finite element models for the porous composite materials are developed, and poroelastic and failure analysis for these models are performed. In order to investigate the three-dimensional effects, finite element meshes are modeled considering different porosity(up to 0.5) and the number of slices (up to five). As a result, effective Young's moduli and poroelastic parameters exhibit the maximum differences of 74.0% and 442.1% with respect to porosity respectively, and 98.7% and 37.2% with respect to the number of slices. First and last failure strengths are decreased 88.2% and 90.0% with respect to porosity respectively, and 53.8% and 171.8% with respect to the number of slices.
In this study, polymer-fluorinated silica composite hollow fiber membranes were fabricated and applied to a membrane contactor for the recovery of methane dissolved in the anaerobic effluent. To prepare the composite membranes, porous hollow fiber substrates were fabricated with Ultem®, a commercial polyetherimide (PEI). Subsequently, fluorinated silica particles were synthesized and coated on the surface via strong covalent bonding. Due to the high porosity, our membrane showed a CH4 flux of 8.25 × 10-5 ㎤ (STP)/㎠·s at the liquid velocity of 0.03 m/s which is much higher that that of commercial polypropylene membrane designed for degassing processes. This is attributed to our membrane's high porosity as well as a superior surface hydrophobicity (120~122°) resulted from the coating with fluorinated silica nanoparticles.
The key component of a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) is the membrane electrode assembly (MEA), which comprises a polymer electrolyte membrane and catalyst layers (anode and cathode electrode). Generally the catalyst layer is coated on the porous electrode supporter (e.g. carbon paper or cloth) using various coating methods such as brushing, decal transfer, spray coating and screen printing methods. However, these methods were disadvantageous in terms of the uniformity of catalyst layer thickness, catalyst loss, and coating time. In this work, we used bar-coating method which can prepare the catalyst layer with uniform thickness for MEA of DMFC. The surface and cross-section morphologies of the catalyst layers were observed by SEM. The performances and resistance of the MEAs were investigated through a single cell evaluation and impedance analyzer.

Several commercial cottonseed, corn and rapeseed oils were stored at $60^{\circ}C\;and\;70^{\circ}C$ with daily exposure of fluorescent light for 12 hours and evaluated their rancidity by headspace gas chromatographic analysis of pentanal and hexanal. The data of gas chromatographic analysis was compared with organoleptic flavor evaluation. For headspace gas chromatographic analysis, the volatile compounds were recovered by porous polymer trap and flushed into a fused silica capillary column at $250^{\circ}C$. Twenty-three GC peaks were identified on the basis of relative retention time of reference compounds and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The results showed that the contents of pentanal and hexanal were linearly increased during storage. A very simple linear relationship was found between organoleptic flavor scores and amounts of two volatile compounds with very high correlation coefficient. This results suggested the possible implication of pentanal and hexanal as an quality index for rancidity evaluation of cottonseed, corn and rapeseed oils.
Macroporous SiC with pore size 84∼658 nm and mesoporous SiC with pore size 15∼65 nm were respectively prepared by infiltrating low viscosity preceramic polymer solutions into the various sacrificial templates obtained by natural sedimentation or centrifuge of 20∼700 nm silica sol, which were subsequently etched off with HF after pyrolysis at 1000∼140$0^{\circ}C$ in an argon atmosphere. Three-dimensionally long range ordered macroporous SiC ceramics derived from polymethylsilane (PMS) showed surface area 584.64$m^2$g$^{-1}$ when prepared with 112nm silica sol and at 140$0^{\circ}C$, whereas mesoporous SiC from polycarbosilane (PCS) exhibited the highest surface area 619.4 $m^2$g$^{-1}$ with random pore array when prepared with 20-30 nm silica sol and at 100$0^{\circ}C$. Finally, tile pore characteristics of porous SiC on the types of silica sol, polymers and pyrolytic conditions were interpreted with the analytical results of SEM, TEM, and BET instruments.
Sulfonated poly (arylene ether sulfone) (SPAES) random copolymers have merits such as high proton conductivity, relatively low production cost, and thermochemical resistance when applied as polymer electrolyte membranes for fuel cells. However, it is difficult to directly employ SPAES copolymers into practical fuel cell membrane applications owing to their low chemical stability and dimensional instability under harsh operation conditions. A plausible solution is to impregnate SPAES copolymers into support films (e.g., electrospun polyimide support) with interconnected pore structures and high thermochemical toughness. In this study, a SPAES copolymer with a swivel group, which induces high free volume for fast ion transport, is chosen as ionomers to prepare pore-filling membranes (PFMs). The feasibility of the resulting membranes is evaluated via membrane characterizations.
New composite membranes were manufactured by impregnating post-sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone)s containing perfluorocyclobutane (PFCB) groups into porous polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) films. Two kinds of post-sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone)s with two different monomer ratios (sulfonable biphenylene monomer : non-sulfonable sulfonyl monomer = 6 : 4, 4 : 6) were first prepared through three synthetic steps: synthesis of trifluorovinylether-terminated monomers, thermal cycloaddition polymerization and post-sulfonation using chlorosulfonic acid (CSA). The composite membranes were then prepared by adjusting the concentrations (5~20 wt%) of the resulting copolymers impregnated in the PTFE films. The water uptake, ion exchange capacity (IEC) and ion conductivity of the composite membranes were characterized and compared with their unreinforced dense membranes and Nafion. All the synthesized compounds, monomers and polymers were characterized by $^1H$-NMR, $^{19}F$-NMR and FT-IR and the composite membranes were observed with scanning electron micrographs (SEM).
